  7. All the transplant bits which Tom had fitted to the Felicia with a combination of inspiration and perspiration were swapped onto the Caddy without requiring much of either (especially from me). The result is that I now have a Caddy with 1.8T power, which I am most chuffed with. I have to admit to feeling a bit of a cheat, as ordinarily I am a 'built not bought' disciple, but I had to accept that this transplant was beyond my level of expertise. I hope that TeflonTom and Jim felicia16v who owned and developed the Felicia before me are not too disappointed that I have used it as a donor. It was always my plan to do so, and the Felicia's sills had got to the state where some surgery was required to keep it going, which made me feel fractionally less guilty about taking it to pieces. Outwardly, the Caddy gives few clues to its potency, with only the side exit exhaust really giving it away.

  9. No links to actual legislation then! From your own link Do we get anything in return? The divorce bill could be offset partly by the UK’s share of EU assets, rebates and budget receipts. Some could be immediate deductions from the bill, while others could be longer-term payments over the next decade or more. Potential issues are: Budget receipts - money that the UK would have got from the EU Budget Rebate credits - repayment of outstanding credits from earlier contributions Asset shares - this is likely to be the most contentious, with arguments about whether the UK is entitled to shares of the value of buildings and a share of the capital of the European Investment Bank (EIB).The Commission's methodology outlines that the UK's paid-in capital to the EIB will be returned, but only after the EIB's loan book is balanced. Could we walk away without paying a Brexit ‘divorce bill’? The Lords’ EU Financial Affairs Committee reports that the “strictly legal position of the UK on this issue appears to be strong”. If negotiators fail to agree on a political financial settlement, it could become a legal case in the International Court of Justice or the Permanent Court of Arbitration, both located in The Hague. The result of such a court case would be hard to predict. However there have been suggestions that this international arbitration solution would be preferable to a political settlement. I'll leave you with this

  10. Having reluctantly decided that my Felicia pick-up was too tired to be a good base for my plans, I spent months looking for another. Although I have owned VAG cars for many years, I had not previously owned a VW, but the pick-up that I found was a Caddy, so I hope you will tolerate a thread about a VW on a Skoda site. When I bought it, it looked like this (bear with me, it gets better!). It is a 1.9D, which has previously had a substantial amount of effort put into sorting the bodywork, which is what was most important. Coincidentally, I bought it from the same place (Peterborough) as I bought my Felicia pick-up.

Didn't work on the 2 off duty dickless tracys making their way home, gave me an enormous *******ling after I overtook them TWICE in the same week !!! I now use a slightly longer but, higher speed route to work !!!

I Saw the Fabia R5's bombing through the welsh hills and forests two weeks ago and they stand out and also winning WRC2 aswell!! Loving the ops car though, nice touches and v smart!!

  18. Hi All, this may already have been covered in another posting, so apologies if I'm duplicating something that has already been clarified. I was trying to identify the correct Xenon bulb type for my 2014 Superb Elegance 2.0 TDI Estate and there appeared to be conflicting information on this. However I believe this to be correct from my research on the OSRAM website. I know I can just and take a bulb out of my headlamp and look at the label, but I thought surely the 'Information Super Highway' can help with this The pre FL Superb Mk2 Xenon bulb type is D1S (up to 20130) and the post FL Superb MK2 is Xenon bulb type is D3S . (up to 2015) See OSRAM Website for details:- https://am-application.osram.info/en/p/home Hope this might be of some help to someone. Best Regards, Jon Skoda Superb MK 2 Xenon Headlamp Information.docx

  23. This Felicia is no more. The 1.8T parts have now been transplanted to my mk2 Caddy pick-up, and the brakes will be following shortly. Once I have the remaining useful parts from it, the Felicia will be scrapped. Seems very harsh to write that after all the effort that has gone into it, even though much of that effort lives-on in the Caddy. The Felicia's sills had got pretty rotten, and the rapid propagation of a crack in the windscreen suggests the stiffness of the bodyshell is no longer what it should be.

  25. The checker-plate load cover was vandalised, apparently by someone who did not realise that the way to get into the back was to open the tailgate! I may replace that at some point, but in the meantime I have fitted a tonneau cover. Not having the rigid load cover meant that I was not constrained to only carry level loads, which proved useful more than once. This picture was taken before the tonneau was fitted. Making my own Fun

  26. The rear spoiler did not last 24 hours in my ownership, and the white alloy wheels were sold to be replaced by Renault 15" steels, to which I fitted Felicia hubcaps with VW badges. Over the course of the subsequent months, my son and I removed the vinyl wrap, spotlights, bull bar, side window tints, rear window paint (seriously!), rear step, front splitter, sun strip, and a lot of bright red painted parts from the interior. The registration was put on retention, and I assigned the personal plate I had taken off my Felicia. Apart from a bit of attention to the electrics, no effort was required to keep it running for the next few months. The cooling was a bit marginal, possibly as a function of the non-standard front bumper, but everything else seemed to work as it should. I do not know what make the lowering springs are, or whether the dampers have also been uprated, but the handling is quite solid and predictable, enough to give confidence that it can handle more power, which is fortunate....

  31. I have replaced my existing wiper blades which was genuine Skoda ones last year to new genuine Skoda wiper blades for the front & rear on my estate but when I purchased the front wiper blades last year sometime they only cost £25.00 actually £31.50 for the pair & I think the rear cost me around £12.00 for my estate. You can get them from here but seem a bit expensive for the fronts? http://www.theskodashop.co.uk/category/Octavia_3_2013_2018/Wiper_Blades__Octavia_3_,b.html http://www.skodaparts.com/product/octavia-wiper-blades-front-2013-2018-51056 & to be honest at the time I didn't think it was that much but looking at them prices now, next time I need a set for the front, I think I will go down the Bosch route too. 33. There is nothing you can do to get quick warmth on UK spec models Some countries (e.g. Scandinavia) have preheaters (it's not even an option in UK), presumably the people who choose the specs park their cars in their insulated garages at night so never have freezing car.

  34. I don't think that the engine / oil consumption issue would qualify. Sadly, Warranty providers and Insurers will ALWAYS try to squirm out of any acknowledgement of responsibility; as Headinawayoffski suggets, I hope you were more honest than them when selling your car?

  35. Hm, this is the 2017/2018 d/l link for O3 Columbus as well, as someone posted here. So probably the maps are the same for the Octavia and Kodiaq... I also found a working Skoda d/l link by increasing the version number and adding 2018 at the end: http://infotainment-cdn.skoda-auto.com/base/maps/HIGH12_P166_EU_2018.zip There's some size difference between this (25.0 GB) and the VW (24.3 GB) maps in post #1. I guess they are the same inside, probably it's just different file compression.

  37. Not a spectacular update by any means, but just to keep up-to-date!... Car parts always come along at the wrong moment! These came up and couldn't leave them there... Excuse the shaky handed poor 2nd picture! They are GP Race Pro lightweight seats. Hadn't heard of the brand before, but did a bit of research on the net and they're not cheap. Got them and some TRS 4 point harnesses for an absolute steal! They're not very old and in excellent condition apart from needing a clean. They were local too, so snapped them up quickly! Need side-mounts, a single runner and base plates yet though. The guy who is doing my cage will also make some custom subframes at the same time. Once the car is back on its wheels, the shell will be trailed down there.

  43. Hello, I'm from France, and pick up my vRS FL since a month now, I found something a bit annoying, and would like to know if it's kind of bug or standard. in France the new vRS has kessy by default. So when i park the car, i push the button to switch off the ignition , and then nothing happen... i have to open the driver door to have the ceiling lights switch ON. Normally they should switch on as soon as you are parked... I heard from someone that have a vRS pre FL with no kessy and as soon as he removed his key the lights are on... my headlight button is switch to auto. i even try to unlock the doors but lights stays OFF... are you experiencing the same ? I believe i went through all menus but didnt find anything... Thanks for your help.

  48. If you look closely you will see that most of the super skinny WRC winter / ICE tyres have studs fitted. They provide the drive by digging into the ice after the narrow high pressure tyres have cut through the soft snowy surface . Big fat rubber with studs would just steam roll the snow, i.e. they spread the load over a wider area and ride up on top of the snow compacting it rather than cutting through it. This in turn puts the compacted snow between the tyre and the ice which the studs need to dig into to provide drive. If its deep semi compacted snow you are driving in, then a similar sized winter tyre to your summer one would suffice and work well. If you go too narrow in tyre width you will struggle more as you are trying to grip snow (which isn't solid like ice) but you will still some form of make progress. However, with our fickle British winters, when there is zero snow on the ground and you are driving around on two super narrow rubber bands, your stopping performance especially will be greatly compromised due to less rubber in contact with the road. That is your compromise, wet and dry performance in the cold will suffer greatly. Your Options: 1. You live in the frozen North where it snows lots and they don't bother to salt / grit the roads because its too cold for that to work = fit narrow winter rubber with studs. (Some of our Scandinavian members will testify to this I am sure). 2. Live near the frozen North but not the frozen North and have plenty of super cold artic chills blow in, a good amount of snow fall but where gritting and snow ploughing is a common and regular occurrence and works = Fit normal winter tyres. 3. Live in N / W / central Europe (UK etc) where winters can be and are normally cold 0*C to -15*C, wet, with unpredictable rain sleet or snow, and when it does snow it doesn't hang around for months at a time = Winter tyres will out perform summer rubber by a good margin in almost all conditions. 4. Southern Euro zone (Spain, Italy (not Alps side)) where winter barely scrapes down into the single figure +#* = Stick with your summer tyres. You wont see any real benefit for more than a month if that. I fit winters here in Germany because 1, the conditions every winter warrant it & 2. Its the law when the temp Avg is 7*C or lower for extended periods. People forget that driving in the winter in conditions such as that seen in the picture kindly posted 8 posts up by 1600cr, that it isn't about being able to drive wherever and whenever you want to reliably. If you can't drive to work because the roads are far too slippery or are blocked by the summer tyre shod 4X4 Chelsea brigade, no one gets hurts or dies. However, if you are driving in snowy conditions (such as the picture above) and have to stop in an emergency or wipe out a bus shelter / slide through a red light into the traffic etc), that is the only time you will wish you had winter tyres fitted. They DO MAKE A MASSIVE difference in conditions like those in the pic above and in the cold and wet sh**ty conditions we normally experience every winter. I was a naysayer once and became a disgruntled (law enforced) convert who would now never go back to running summers in the winter! Been there, done that and was embarrassed on many many occasions. I will now fit Winters every year regardless if its going to snow or not. Cold and wet, winters are on even when they cost me 750 Euros straight out for my VRS. The safety of my young family and other road users matters to me first and foremost. If i still cant make it to work then no harm comes to anyone / thing (apart from my pocket maybe). Winters to me now are a no brainer. If I move to Australia in the next few years, then no, I will not be fitting winter tyres ever again! Tinted windows maybe, but not winters!!!!
