  1. The link Mr Goldfinger posted is correct for OEM VRS bolts. 16x17mm head bolts plus the 4x bigger ones for the locknuts. If you have any different then they aren't OEM bolts and probably don't fit in the factory wheel.

  2. I bought a set from the Bay just for the tweezers that pull the cap off. It sure had 16 normal 17mm hex caps plus 4 caps for round head locking bolts. Strangely our spare wheel kit only included a hook type tool that works on other VAG wheel bolt caps, but no tweezers

  3. Hi amp1967, In case water in the spare wheel: first you should check vent frames which are places under rear bumper, under both lamps. Above those frames is mounted two hoods, which are preventing drip the water through vents to inside of the boot. Sometimes those hood or frames are falling down from the vents gap and then water comes down to the boot and collecting in the spare wheel. If you want to check this you should unmount both rear lamps (you don't have to unmount bumper yet). Then you will seeing those vents frames with hoods. If you press these frames, the problem may be resolved. On this picture you may see what about I wrote (shot from briskoda.net):

  7. you don't have to use a solicitor, you can do it yourself or use anyone you like, same as surgery or dentistry, you don't HAVE to employ someone qualified to do those things, it's just that most people do tend to use someone who is trained, qualified and regulated for the job in hand. Sadly all that costs more than someone less trained. Simples. It's sufficiently technical and specialised that despite being a qualified solicitor there is no way I would ever undertake a property transaction. I just don't know enough about the process to carry it out competently. I have no issue with paying people qualified to do things on my behalf if I can't do them myself, whether that be servicing my car, looking after my health, driving the trains I get on or even carrying out legal work. George on the other hand divides people into "worthy" (honest hard working people) and "unworthy" (politicians, lawyers and who knows what else who are all crooks and scoundrels who only do what they do in order to line their own pockets). He's a wind up merchant par excellence, sitting around all day pontificating self righteously about whatever comes up on his screen.

  11. Adjusting the balljoints on old Minis was my pet hate. You had to use shims to get the right preload. It was a right fart about and they used to keep going out of adjustment. God I hated working on old Minis. Fitting rear subframes was another joyous activity. Ha!

  13. I don't think that the dsg box learns your driving style, I think it is set up to react to various pre-set parameters. They had a discussion about this on the Golf mk7 forum, and I believe that is the case.

  15. Why does one need 21mm covers when if you google wheels nut covers for a Mk2 Octavia Vrs comes up as 17mm ? You can buy 20 covers, 16 for non locking bolts and 4 for locking bolts and plastic tweezers to remove them in a pack................ I'm rather confused.........

  16. Spot on. Power is the least important, it's all about the shape of the torque curve. I've had two shark maps, one from somewhere that I can't recall, and a box. The shark maps were a league above the other two choices. If I bought another petrol car tomorrow, I'd be straight up to Mansfield.

  22. Ski recommends a simple full synthetic 502.00 oil such as Quantum Platinum which is 5w-40 as compared to 5w-30 longlife iii which is 504.00 Being a bit thicker probably allows oil to stick in and around the chain parts longer when the engine is stood instead of drain away. And it's slower to drain down past the sometimes marginal seal in the oil filter. Also, from what I gather, ski is convinced the additive package in the long life oil can be detrimental to the day to day performance of the oil. He's probably right, the couple of times I've witnessed this oil put in our cars in error they did sound that little bit quieter and didn't hear a rattle in the short time (<1,000 miles) it was in there. You might take a 1% or so hit in fuel economy with the higher viscosity oil however. But whatever, stick to 10,000 miles/1 yr absolute max changes, more regularly would be even better. Draining oil and changing filters on this engine is such a simple job, it can be done on your drive in 10 minutes, easy to reach drain plug, filter right in front on top no jacking up or removal of trays etc required unlike the latest VAG engines.

  25. I have a MY2018 SEL Executive, I got KESSY because I'm a wheelchair user and can't reach the boot when it's open but can close it using the keyfob. KESSY also got me the keyless start. I only have the electric driver's seat, as standard, and I have the dipping passenger side mirror, and both outside mirrors also have automatic dimming as standard.

  26. If its any help, here is a scan of my car which has had the camera retrofitted, although it is an earlier car than yours (early 2016) . You can see that there is a fault code in the camera module - no basic setting. But despite that, it works fine. Also showing the fault for the AWD - now fixed with new pump. 28. It's useless. "Dial mum" 'Dialing office...' "Cancel cancel, hangup <presses button on wiper stalk to hangup> Dial mum" 'Dialing Marc' .... In the end I gave up, pulled over and selected it manually. Maybe if you speak in South-East England-ish or received pronunciation it might work, but anywhere North or West of Bristol it's probably useless.

  29. Hi guys, I been away for a while but back now and I now own a 2011 octavia vrs in race blue after owning mk1 fabia vrs se and mk2 fabia vrs, well I fancied going down the route of coating my new car rather then waxing like I always have done. So I have tried loads of coatings but the one that I really enjoyed the most was the siramik coating so ordered a kit from dooka. Anyways I don't have any before pictures of my car but believe me I don't think it had seen a Polish in along time just the usual heavy swirls and dull paint really, so I did the usual wash routine followed by a full decontamination using autosmart red 7, bilt hamber clay bar and autosmart tardis, then set on to checking the paint depth around the car which all came back healthy which is always a good start. So I used a mixture of cartec Polish pads and chemical guys hexlogic pads on my rupes mk2 lhr 15 for the most of the car and my shinemate ep803k rotary for the more annoying areas. Which left the panels like this looking much sharper. I then used a ipa between all polish sets and applied the siramik prime via a white hex pad and the gloss from this stuff is something else, defenetly using this again, followed by two layers of siramik sc15 with a layer of siramik sc mist which just boosts the gloss unbelievably, and of course and final wipe down with the mist. Windows sealed with am details rain and tyres dressed with two coats of megs endurance. Which left this whike curing over night. Not the best pictures but you get an idea of the gloss etc. And a couple of poor full car pictures outside. This took me best part of 4 days in between dad duties etc but worth it as this morning it was raining. . I do have a little video of the car which really captures how well this came out but can't seem to upload I will try though, but if anyone is thinking of trying a ceramic coating then I would recommend looking at siramik. The gloss and water behaviour so far have been second to none and it's really user friendly, one of the easiest I have ever used not at all fussy. Thanks for reading guys. Sean.

  32. I suppose it depends if it needs some additional hardware other than the camera. It will clearly need coding to have the infotainment system recognise it. Might it simply be the wiring to the infotainment system from the camera is missing? Already in this thread nicknorman has said he had it retrofitted although initially the cost was £700 - so double the price fitted in the factory.

  34. The ‘get out the vote’ tactic is basically centred around making people angry...........it’s such an obvious tactic that the Russians have found a way to destroy the U.S. from within. Just mention Hillary Clinton and rational discussion is abandoned. Why spend a fortune on defence weaponry when you can windup the population to self destruct. Sad times.

  35. I had one or two erroneous TPMS alarm activations on my Yeti and unfortunately I have had similar issues once or twice on both my new CR-V's, although the problem on my latest CR-V has been solved with a software update. Both systems appear pretty basic to me so I bought myself a TyrePal monitoring system. This gives a continuous readout of both the pressure and temperature of all 4 tyres on an individual basis. Therefore if the car system alarms I just check the TyrePal monitor and if OK just keep driving until convenient to re-set the car system. It also means that physical checking of tyre pressures is a thing of the past for me.

  40. Got mine fixed...well, I've found the problem. Had a wet floor in front drivers side and after sealing all doors (one of them 2-3 times) I've found the problem. Here's how: Ripped out interior/carpet Got a friend to spray with a water hose (start from bottom) Got inside the car with a flashlight to see where the water is coming from To my surprise all the water coming inside the car was running along the a-pillar and windshield from the top Seems like a former change of windshield was done poorly :( Used a lot of hours on this forum reading how to fix wet floors, but the problem was not the usual. But thanks from Denmark for being the best Skoda forum

  41. Ours is chain rather than belt, there was a known design error, it is recommended to fit whole kit - it is not only the chain to be replaced I have changed mine when the car had 40k miles. If you check from my profile the old posts you will see a topic about cam chain issue. If you have time to go through it, it is worth to read

I've got supply and replace costs down to just on $2000 AUD I may be upgrading so i am hanging off on the motor servos at this stage as i definitely wont be getting that 2k back! I really miss the electro struts but the replacement is ridiculous. I might just go for gas until i can jag some second hand...then keep my fingers crossed!

  43. Yep, order is on the system and been accepted by the factory for exactly the same spec car apart from I have changed the colour to Velvet Red Last Friday it was showing as BW8 but they are expediting it this week so that should move forward. I didn't realistically expect to receive until January anyway, so lets see what happens with the BW.

  46. Hi All! I have Skoda Fabia which was produced 02.2011 (engine 1.2 TSI CBZA). First time I heard rattle noises (about 3 seconds, during start of engine) from the timing chain when the car had mileage 18k km. Later - the noises was happen from time to time but rarely. After driving mileage 85k km rattle was happen more often. I was made precisious researching on this topic on many forums and in Skoda's TPI documents. Skoda made two repair kit for their cars: 03F198229A (includes chain 03F109158K) for cars < 11.2011 03F198158B (includes chain 03F109158G) for cars > 11.2011 However, I saw such topics on the russian automotive forums that shows it repair kit "B" is also possible to mount in cars which were produced before November 2011. It was very interesting, especially if I saw posts describes that repair kit with "A" doesn't resolve problem with rattling noises. After I logged to the paid Skoda's website for repairers (ERWIN) and putting VIN number of my car I found quite new TPI document no 2037419/11 from 2016.03.30. It describes for examples how to check chain elongation and how to follows if results of the checking shows that timing chain must be replaced. In this document is also written that my engine should be repaired with using repair kit 03F198158B. However, I sent a few mails to authorized Services of Skoda in Poland with question about repair method (which repair kit they plan to used in my car and how much it will be cost). Exactly I wanted find out that they are using recommended repair kit for my engine. I got different responses from them. Unfortunately the most of Services wrote me that right repair kit for my car is 03F198229A with the timing chain "K". It's sad but probably they never heard about document TPI 2037419/11. Happily I'm found in Warsaw one authorized Skoda Service which was familiar about the TPI and they offered me repair my car with using kit 03F198158B. Repair of my Fabia took place in March 2017 when the car had 90k km mileage. Additionally I asked them about changing chain for oil pump. If in engines with timing belt in case of his replacement usually was recommend also replacing water pump, I thought that in CBZA engine good idea could be replace both chains driven from crankshaft. I just wanted that all parts which are cooperating with timing chain and his sprockets was changing, especially that chain of oil pump hasn't any tensioner and probably was also longer and it could be a source of rattle noises. The authorized Skoda Service realized the repair. They replaced my factory timing chain on repair kit 03F198158B and they also mounted new drive of oil pump (chain + sprocket) according for my request. Now I have 98k km and from the replacing date I don't hear any noises. Engine works great. Below I show how looks my factory timing chain and his parts after 90k km. There wasn't tragedy, but I think it was good time to replacing both chains and guide rails, tensioner, sprockets. Camshaft sprocket and elongation of timing chain: Oil pump sprocket and chain elongation: Crankshaft sprocket and timing chain: Crankshaft sprocket damages: Both chains: Regards!
