  1. Good experience today. Driven for 38 years, first ever map, Shark stage1. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It was already a nice quickish car. The map feels smooth and progressive, rapidly building up torque and revs, it pulls hard right to the rev limit. The in-gear acceleration is noticeably improved . I did a short test drive at Shark's and the car started to lose traction in 4th on the slightly damp road surface before it got to 60. Three dyno runs showed 297/295/291 Bhp, so more than I thought, even allowing for any degree of Dyno machine optimism and despite using the original 26000 mile air filter and plugs. I agreed to change them if the result was below the predicted 280-285 Bhp, but didn't bother. I am trying not to floor it below 1800-2000 rpm to conserve the clutch, which seems fine, time will tell. Fuel economy over 69 miles at avg speed of 41 Mph even with intermittent test squirts was 40 mpg. Excuse the shaky dyno picture.

  2. Hi AwaoffSki Been away on holiday for over a week and the engine got so bad at tickover in a traffic jam in CenterParcs we had to turn the engine off and wait over an hour for the queue to drop off trying to get out. The whole engine was shaking so badly we thought it was on its last legs before a big bang and seizure at 101,000 miles on the clock? Looked under the bonnet and you could smell exhaust fumes coming from near the turbo at the back of the engine. Thought this was a turbo blow out so had to drop it off at our local garage in Norwich and they found the exhaust blowing out between the turbo and the DPF. Put on a new metal collet and gasket between the two and hey presto sweet engine again. They reckon when the unit is cold a greater gap is there forcing out more pressure from the exhaust and when we went down the road and the oil temp was reading just above 80* C the gap was less so it ran better. This had been going on for a few weeks gradually getting worse with time. A new one for me on diesel engines as the turbo was fine. HEX-V2 will not of course show this interesting effect and no faults found. Also found the offside front coil spring had broken near the bottom of the shock absorber holding cup so had that replaced at the same time. Yeti now running again and had no other main breakdowns with it since new apart from Leaders door repair wrecking the wire harness to the main body plug and causing the battery to drain? First set of new discs put on the front and the rear ones are original. Mrs must drive smoothly (IAM) as the rear is on its second pair of pads and the front had to have a new third set due to new front discs although there was plenty of meat left on the second pair. 4. Hi all, I've also ordered a VRS TSI DSG in Rallye Green, currently waiting very impatiently for a (hopefully) February delivery. Ordered on the 18th of November, expected build is week 4 2018. If I could find a hire company hiring TSI VRS's I think I'd be there every weekend up to delivery.

  5. I fitted the Varta as that enduroline was not available and I am completely happy with it starts instantly.. The columbus will learn its code form the car no need to reset. Also I recoded my car with vcds to tell it it had a new battery and what Ah it was and changed the serial number but there is mixed views if this is really necessary

  6. The detailing has begun! Test fitting the rings and pinstripes. This is after one of three stages of polishing, and the phone pic really doesn't do it justice. Finer Details NZ are doing an amazing job. Some from my real camera. I am so excited about how good this looks, and there's three more stages of polish and coating still to go. Finer Details NZ are detailing wizards

  9. They list: 1) Optimised shift points 2) In D - 2nd gear is held unless the vehicle comes to a complete stop (it will just slip second). 3) RPM multistage launch control depending on how much you press the accelerator pedal 4) in manual mode automatic kickdown is disabled. It will only change gear at the Rev limiter and when the Engine is labouring at low RPM 5) Shift speeds increased slightly thats the main ones :-)

  14. 30% reduction for Black Friday offer took it to £350, plus £50 for the dyno, which was worth it. Jake did an initial read of the car, sent it to Ben, who then checked it and sent a compatible/custom map back. Jake said straight after the dyno test that it felt like a good smooth map and that they sometimes need to be tweaked. From that I suppose there's a base map, which Ben tweaks to suit your engine and transmission, if it dynos ok then presumably it's a good map and it's left alone. They then let me test drive it and even in the short bit of NSL A road I quickly felt the difference, which I described in the 1st post.

  16. Going to AW Tuning in Kent this Saturday for a Shark Stage 1 tune (via remote funtimes with Mansfield), having chatted to the Shark boys fairly consistently over last few months. Will be receiving a stock Stage 1 (for VRS 220) for the 230, but likely will improve response and power either way. Good to hear your positive feedback. Let us know how you get on with the clutch - I'll be saving up for one in 12-months time, then maybe progressing to Stage 2 dependent on if I can afford regular front tyres...

  17. A service action is available for your vehicle. The EA 189 diesel engine in your vehicle with the Vehicle Identification Number you entered is affected by the EA 189 NOx emissions issue. We would like to reassure you that independent testing authorities have confirmed that there will be no negative impact on engine performance, maximum torque, fuel consumption, noise and CO2 emissions as a result of having this update applied. (Except the update f***s the EGR valve up..) Please either use our booking tool or contact your local Retailer to book your vehicle in for the service action. Of course, you won’t be charged for having the work completed.

  19. According to the MFD: 2400 km traveled, average speed 37 km/h, 4.6 litres per 100 kms (61 mpg). Since it's according to the MFD, it doesn't amount to much. Usually have at least one passenger and light luggage on board, driving cycle is well mixed between highway and city driving. The best I've seen was 3.5 litres per 100 kms (81 mpg, according to the MFD, again, not long ago after having all injectors replaced). The car had been sitting a couple hours after driving, so it was halfway warm. 15kms of driving, half of it at 80km/h, the rest at 60km/h according to the MFD. Maybe hit one or two traffic lights at the end, the rest was pure cruising. Another trip, about 250km. 3.8 litres per 100kms (74 mpg), most of the ride being locked at 100km/h. Average speed probably between 75-80 km/h. I do the same drive every couple of weeks. With near freezing temperatures and rainy weather the display was at 4.2 per 100 kms (67 mpg). When I've been trying to hit those low numbers for fun, I've even turned off cabin heat to let the engine warm up faster.

  20. Thank you for that info Langers2k ! UPDATE. following another run to Dorset and return, the two warning lights previously mentioned are on again, after being clear for a week. I've contacted Skoda uk and referred to the http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/dieselinfo/trust-building-measure/ I'm delighted to say that my car is now booked into Walkers of King's Lynn for a free diagnostic check, and a free lift back home.... All being well, the car is being sorted on Thursday at Skoda's expense. Their customer service on this occasion so far, is excellent. This contrasts sharply with my Mercedes/smart experience when a continually failing 'starternator' resulted in a new engine at 31,000 miles... Fortunately, the tab of around £7000 was picked up by the AA as their technician trimmed the existing belt instead of recovering the vehicle. His 'repair' lasted barely 10 miles! if you have an issue post software upgrade, contact the emissions team at Skoda UK. ill keep you posted!

  24. Ttodorof, to catch the regen I monitor the exhaust temp. At idle temp is just under 200c, cruising 350c , regens around 700c i have a low profile Bluetooth dongle (cheap elm327 clone off eBay) and using the paid version of torque.currently working on using a raspberry Pi to gather various sensor data and display on infotainment unit (once I. Find the right interface to allow inserting another video signal) Gabbo, definitely intend to get it in writing, made a point of requesting that when they fill up with fuel that they log the odometer reading as I have every receipt for every fill up ( which I do and at the moment the drivers door is full of receipts)

  26. The best bit is never having to think about getting fuel and range if you drive within your EV's range and return to home plug-in every day. You always leave home with a full charge. I was also going to pay cash, but the switch scheme fitted me perfectly. Selling privately my 11yr diesel will net no more than £1700, trade it in and get £1000 on the car plus £2000 deposit contribution. If after 3 years my Leaf is no longer worth its value, I can hand it back all for the price of diesel + tax would have costed me otherwise. Essentially free car for 3 years at cost of slightly higher electric bill: £330 a year, only slightly more than a major diesel servicing. If you are not going to take advantage of this deal, it's worth searching further afield away from Nissan dealer network. I've noticed since September Leaf eligible for the deal have increase slightly in price. Those that are not eligible have dropped slightly. https://speakev.com/ is a good forum for EV's. The Leaf 24's on sale there are usually priced just right. 30's are in high demand due to low supply, not worth it until new Leaf 2 40kWh comes out.

  31. 245/40r18 require an 8" rim, so does a 235/40r18. The rolling diameter will be right at the limit compared to the factory size of 225/40r18. The biggest 40 series tyre you can fit (using manufacturers recommended sizings) to an 18x7.5 rim is 225/40r18. You'll need 8-8.5" to run bigger widths.

  33. Penny pinching is certainly possible on the batteries - Skoda has form for that. It could be that a previous owner was not willing to pay the extra for the AGM battery. I think when Stop/Start became an item on cars like the Greenline, they didn't use AGM and used ECM (enhanced batteries that could handle more frequent charging cycles). Do you think your battery might be one of those? I'm not sure how you tell.....

  35. I’m 61. I started biking when I was 16 and have always had a bike since then. Currently have a Hayabusa. Still alive! my tips, for what they’re worth: Dont drive your bike as if it were a car. You won’t last long. Example: you’re driving along a main road in your car. A car approaches from a side road. You assume it will stop so you just carry on. But if you’re driving along the same road on your bike, one time in 1000 it will pull out in front of you. One time in 1000 you’ll die. How many lives do you have? So you have to remove the possibility by adjusting your speed (which bikes are good at) so there cant be a conflict. second tip. There is no point in having a bike if you are going to drive it like a car. Cars get stuck in traffic. Bikes don’t. Unless they are too wide! Don’t get a bike with wide scrambler type handlebars, the scratches they put in the stationary cars are embarrassing! third tip: car drivers treat small bikes like they were some shoe dirt. Get a big evil x-off scary bike, car drivers are scared of that and get out of the way!

  36. These things are all so subjective and the bottom line is that if you like it and it works for you that’s all that matters. Doesn’t mean it works for others, though, and as it stands another Octy won’t be top of my list when the current PCP ends. Family have complained consistently about a crashy/noisy ride in the back, and when I had a current gen Mondeo for a few weeks its ride/handling compromise was far superior. It doesn’t have a torsion beam back axle, of course. I can see the logic in a used prestige car over a new Skoda. I’d be less inclined to see it if they sorted the suspension.

  44. It's a sealant you need not tape. Something like Plumbers Gold is fine. It will not be the rubbers around the door frame. Garage doesn't know what they are talking about. Apply like this to both front and rear door carriers. It's not only the rears that leak....
