Another update…I just got today email from the dealer “car is on it’s way to Slovenia from CZ” 🎉🎉🎉

Buy a car in that colour and you should be arrested for Kermitting a crime to people's vision..
  5. Just a quick update: the left rear ABS sensor got damaged by the magnetic ring on the hub after this ring heavily corroded. Parts are ordered and repair is planned for tomorrow. I'll update here afterwards.

Funny, I Googled Eurofighter Typhoon and that was one of the better images that came up and I thought something looked off but I looking more at the canards than the actual plane! 😅(That'll teach me to be more careful!!) You'll have to forgive the error - modern fighter jets are a rare sight in our skies since the last Labour government sold off our A4 Skyhawks and cancelled the proposed F15 order 😐 About all we get are a few sorts of helicopters (A109,NH90 and SH-2G Seasprites), some old C130's and P3 Orion's a couple of 757's, a few T6C Texans and a King Air 350..... pretty sad really and probably why I've lost a bit of interest. Where I live we see more warbirds than anything which certainly brightens up the day!

The cost of everything is going absolutely bonkers including the price of fuel! Subsequently I've tried hypermiling my 1.5tsi octavia to some shocking results. Running on Tesco 99 e5 momentum I got claimed 65.4MPG on a 94 Mile motorway run with 10 of that getting out of London. This was achieved by sitting at 65mph on active cruise in eco mode, had the A/C running but not hard as it was a 18* day, also had the radio running. Including my self and luggage the car had an extra 200kg weighing it down. I Thought this was too good to be true but I did fill up when I left and filled up when I arrived to get a brim to brim of 63.5MPG. This run was mainly on M4 heading west so it was not too flat either! I recon if I had no cargo, and was being even more careful I could get 68-70MPG at a push Has anyone else managed to get diesel MPG out of a petrol, and if so how did you manage it? pic attached for any non believers
  8. Morning, So done my first commute this morning and I noticed that there is a crackling sound/distorted noise every so often (may be every min or so) while I was listening to my audible book on AppleCar play. Has anybody experienced something similar? Thanks,

The dealer told me the car is ready and have vin early march. The status was the same until that Monday, when they told me that the car arrived in the dealership.
  10. Yeah, I’m getting there thanks. One more hurdle to overcome then the rest is down to me No need to change the rockers if they’re not damaged, but will definitely need to lap in whichever valves you want to put in the new head, and I would 100% use engine assembly lube as new parts are going in. If money is no object, why not replace it all, including all the various bolts, gaskets, nuts etc. I would run the Engine for a week then change the oil, making sure it’s given a few heat cycles and not extract the urine with revs during the first few days. Not an overly difficult job if you have the tools for removing the valves etc, but good luck 👍
  11. I've just been starting the update and leaving the car... it seems to finish doing them even when off/locked.
  12. I ran my Cupra that was measured at 517Nm (FWIW) with an unmodified DQ250. It was torque limited in 1-3, and in fact accelerated quicker in 4th gear than it did in third. The turbo blew up on mine, had the oil changed in the box when it was replaced, and it was much dirtier than normal. It's not so much that they slip like a conventional clutch might, it's the extra wear during gear changes that cause the most damage, but it's a long term wear issue, it means that the clutch pack life might be reduced by 20-25% which is fine if you're not keeping the car or low mileage etc. Of course if you drive it sensibly then no issue, but I defy anyone with a remap not to use it more than occasionally!
  13. So did the Italian person on ebay €3, return info within the hour. So now I know what I'm working with. Thanks all.

Anything for £2k will mostly be a modified or ropey Facebook marketplace job. I sold mine a few months back for £2650 with less than perfect bodywork (but not rusty), no options and 145k miles. 2.5-3k should get you something pretty tidy and reliable.
  15. Hi Titanium!! Hope you are feeling better. Car has only covered about 72,000 miles fsh, but off road for 3 years but started every month, oil looks thick though!!!!! but starts instantly, no glow plug time required even in winter. As to bits for the head swap, I figured on sourcing new valves, 'Febi' or Elring possibly. I did think about using the existing ones but possibly false economy. I suppose I ought to use fine grinding paste to help them seat, not sure if I should. New valve seals, new valve springs, hope to remove existing glow plugs and re use with new sealing washers. new valve cover rubber gasket although no sign of leaks from it. Not sure if I should re use valve rockers, no Idea what other parts I might need, getting some engine building oil for cam shaft, valves. Coolant, vw spec stuff what ever that is,ne pd spec engine oil, thinking of running engine untill up to temperature on the drive then draining it, and re filling. And as mentioned the Gates cam belt kit. More than you realise but need to do it the best I can Martin.
  16. Far from perfect but here we are...
  17. Just ordered a RaceChip XLR pedal Box for our Karoq 1.5TSi DSG 4x4. Been discussing the pros & cons of Pedal Boxes vs DSG remaps over on the Superb forum when it struck me that a Pedal Box could be the answer to the positively biblical delay between pressing the accelerator & anything happening under the bonnet on my wife's Karoq. Now I know coming from my 280 Superb into a 1.5 Karoq is not a fair comparison but even so the Karoq does have a very lethargic off the line delay which I suspect has a lot to do with the fix Skoda had to apply to smooth out & cure the Kangarooing problems the early cars had. Either way the pedal box should sharpen up the throttle response & make it much easier to drive for my wife & me when I drive it. I did look at a DTUK/DTE pedal box as well but that was £40 more expensive. The proof will be in the pudding so I'll report back in a few days after it arrives & I get time to fit it.
  18. Had it 2 weeks now I'm well pleased.

The main element of the fighter jet or any jet for that matter wasn't invented by the French. The French had the patented idea for the jet engine but our Frank Whittle made the idea a reality. When the Frenchman Maxime Guillaume came up with the concept in the 20's it was at that stage unfeasible. When you think of inventions , GB did invent most of the useful stuff in every day use today.
  20. Sell it and buy an SUV like everyone else does? I think if you want a car that is not crashy over bad roads then you have the wrong car. 18's are horriby harsh. I've got 16's on my Elegance and standard suspension and that too makes me wince from time to time on bad roads. My wife has a Polo with tiny rims and balloon tyres and that absorbs potholes like a sponge. Wheels/tyres are the easiest/cheapest thing to change. Perhaps try and borrow a set of 16's and see if that makes it tolerable? No idea why car marketing has sold us all on big rims and low profile tyres. Looks nice. Rides horribly. Fine if we all have pan-flat EU funded tarmac, but we don't.

    Cheers, will do👍
  22. Picking up my new Sportline on Saturday morning, a 3 hr drive down South but hopefully worth it. Orderd on 28th Feb and delivery mid May, can't complain tbh.
  23. Mmmm. Think I might be investing in a Pedal box. It's certainly a lot cheaper than a DSG remap. I've got all the power I need so it's just a quicker response off the line I'm looking for. But first I need to get my wheels done. The lacquer is starting to break down & my wife has curbed 2 off the 19" Trinity's on mine + 1 of her Karoq Crater alloys as well. I think a change to powder coated Gloss Black to match the black paint on mine (instead of diamond cut Anthracite as now) will offer better protection, look better & hide the brake dust better too. A local place can do for them £60 per corner +VAT. Hopefully the powder coating will last longer than the stock lacquer finish & my wife will be banned from driving my car except in an emergency 🚺⛔. Well, that will be the plan anyway...
  24. As it's such a low torque figure and there is no specified sequence I don't think it really matters the sequence, just to do diagonally so yes you could use 8-1-4-6 5-3-2-7 ???
  25. Ah that helps cheers mate.
  26. I want an unconfirmed build week again 😓
  27. Contacted my lease broker last week for my monthly update and finally some progress! They came back yesterday and the dealer has said it now has an unconfirmed build week 35 with possible delivery in October. So just over a year from order to delivery if the date isn't pushed back any further.

  36. Thanks mate. Continued positive messages from people such as yourself help keep my spirits up and help me keep focused. This is such a difficult thing to go through physically and emotionally (I actually start therapy for PTSD in July) all you guys on here have no idea just how much you’ve helped me keep a spring on my step and a smile on my face. Zee knows just how supportive some have been on here, she knows your names, and is very thankful to you all 🥰
  37. Guess so, but made of titanium instead.... I'm lighter and and therefore quicker
  38. Hi all, A Superb MK II 2.0 CFFB, living in Gent, Belgium here. Reach out if you have a Skoda in the same zone - I'd love to hear more about local mechanics and car part shops. Best, Alex
  39. Yes it would have been my son. We have an agreement that when he takes the Caddy anywhere he doesn't have to refer to it as "my dad's". When there is work to be done or money to be spent it is definitely mine and not his, however 😁

Hi, new to Skoda and new to forums, found it useful to read before buying the Karoq so thought I’d join.
  41. That car has slipped it's timing and the pistons have tickled the valve heads, it's a head off job I'm afraid. I'm not saying the vendor knew before selling it to you, but I think it's extremely likely.

Let me chime in.. First off, I can give you a little bit of inside information (my father was a manager in one of the biggest Porsche (VAG) dealerships in Slovenia for 10 years), for anyone who is not familliar with how VAG works in Europe.. Basically, they prioritise deliveries based on the market share a certain country has in regards to their cars.. For example, Slovenia is a small market, meaning we can expect longer delivery times than Germany, Italy, France, UK etc.. Apparently, in the past, the managers of dealerships had to negotiate with their Uber-ober bosses in Germany as to what kind of priority a country or a dealership gets.. The less influence a manager has, the worst it is for the whole market or a dealership. I think that is also why some of us in small EU countries have to endure appalling delivery times, as opposed to smn in a bigger, more profitable county I ordered the car end of August 2021, was said 6 months delivery time.. It is now nearing 9 months since then. I got the VIN number last month, car was built in the meantime, delivery date postponed to week 19 (next week), with the comment of " your car is awaiting parts" And now, we wait
  43. Hello, So, the manual states: So this implies to me that I can put a FLAC file on a USB or SD card, plug it in, and then my Columbus system will play the file in 5.1. Great, I have a collection of 5.1 audio at home so why not rip it and get it working in the car! I tried it with my Tubular Bells 2003 (ripped to 5.1 FLAC from my own DVD Audio Disc), and it didn't seem (to my ears) to do anything apart from downmix it to stereo.... This annoyed me and I set about trying to find out what settings I needed to get this working properly. However, the problem was not the system. It was the PICNIC* who was trying to operate it! These were my original sound settings: Canton Optimisation: Front Canton Surround: 0 Canton Subwoofer: 7 I downloaded some 5.1 test tones from this other forum: https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/threads/multichannel-test-files-flac-with-various-channels-sample-rates.24032/ Popped them on an SD card and trundled out to the car again. I picked the 192/24 folder and played the Channnel Test 5.1.flac file and to my astonishment, it played on all 5 channels clearly, but the rear channels were really quiet (maybe 2 * quieter than the fronts), so the TB2003 file was playing in surround, its just the fronts were drowning the rears out and so I thought (incorrectly) it was downmixing it. 😖 So I headed in to the sound settings, and started to balance it all out for my cloth ears. I ended up with the following settings: Canton Optimisation: Front Canton Surround: 7 Canton Subwoofer: 8 This is now very balanced for my ears and surround channels are clearly discernable and work in unison when required. My mistake was, I assumed that Surround "0" was "normal" surround, and that a +'ve figure would bring the rears up to louder than normal settings (the manual states that -9 is "stereo" and +9 is "full surround") However, this is correct but the "normal" surround is so quiet I thought it wasn't working. So ... happy days, all sorted. But I didn't stop there. The manual also stated that the following formats should play: MPEG 2 & 4 (aac, m4p, m4a) at 320kbit/s (48 kHz) Vorbis (Or ogg as its more commonly known) "defined by the format" (whatever that means) So I tried them. I converted my source TB2003 audio to 5.1 Apple Lossless ALAC (m4a) which played perfectly even though the system stated that it would only support m4a at 320kbits and makes no mention of ALAC. I also tried 5.1 aac (apple vbr) at 320kbits, this also played in 5.1. I tried Ogg Vorbis, full quality setting which resulted in a file of 1439 kbps, this also played in 5.1 fine. So you can rip to lossy 5.1 if you so desire and want to save a few MB of space (i'd stick with FLAC or ALAC though personally). So, I hope this helps even 1 person to save some time and settings when trying to get 5.1 audio working on their car, i've been trying to suss this out on and off for a week or so. Now I can rip the rest of my DVD / Hires audio collection ready for the car... Next thing to try is to stop it from pausing between tracks for a brief second without combining it in to one large file... Maybe ALAC will help with that? Cheers, Slick2097. * PICNIC = Problem In Chair, Not In Car / Computer (delete as appropriate)
  44. All brake pads require a little clearance to get in and out of the calipers; I speculate that you're hearing a very dry pad take that clearance up. At the next service I'd get the pads out and get a little suitable lubricant on the back of the pads and their ears. Mintex Ceratec is one type. Getting the pads out will also let you see if anything else is going on - sticky slider pins, trapped stones... the list goes on.
  45. It does do. That's how people normally do their map updates on mib2 high units driving too and from destination although the sat nav is not available during the process. The overrun of the car's systems being powered on for 20 minutes after ignition off, the wind back in the up date if power lost eventually leads to the full update going thru. A 20 minute drive plus 20 minutes after gives you 40 minutes. Truncate the drive from 20 minutes, some wind back, recommence from a restore point in that, plus 20 minutes and the restore point difference gives you the 40 minutes 😍. It's the restore point that it uses in the normal update that works differently to using the developers SWDL menu where you need for power for the duration since the restore point is zero minutes into the process e.g.. start over again. Front menu you can break the update into parts which it handles automatically.

That's good advice. There's a policeman who lives up the street that is built like Mike Tyson. Maybe his address would be ideal as an alternative.
  47. 1 point
A bit of security advice, don't put your home address into your sat nav memory, put a street in your locality instead. That way any thieves who may get into your car, won't have a precise location for the keys should they access the system. They will look elsewhere.
  48. Yes same problem with Spotify, Apple Music and magic Radio app if I pause it and play on steering wheel it stops for 90 secs then comes back
