  1. Being told how "lucky" I am to own my own home. And that same person taking offence when I suggested my "luck" was down to years of make-do-and-mend and taking on evening and weekend work in addition to a full-time job in order to pay the mortgage.

  2. It is my mums 99th birthday on Sunday but there is a party with a local musician being held in the nursing home for her this afternoon. The home has made the arrangements and they do events for the residents very very well and they have stuff of all sorts happening regularly. Since she was 80 she organised and paid for a weekend away for up to 32 of the family, children, grand children and great grand children. There has only been 4 years that was not held at her birthday. She is excited about today and a few of us will be there. It is sad to see how much she has changed since having a fall last Easter and ended up in hospital then having to give up living in her own home. She is happy where she is and well looked after by the staff and gets plenty visitors.

  3. Usually the butt of a joke where there is a male and a female is 'on' the female (stereotypes of "the wife is always right" "leaving her for something better", "constant nagging/worrying" etc etc, so this one is quite refreshing 😛 )

  5. I like the general borrax of the posts, but it still leaves me an overriding sadness that this stuff is happening and it's going to get more difficult to detect. Perhaps it already has. On a happier note

  6. We had the grandkids today, while my Son and his Wife were both at work. My youngest granddaughter is 21 months old. She has found the on/off switch for this demonic creature from hell (it might actually be extra terrestrial, coz as we all know, in space, no one can hear you quack): The orange button at the top activates it. It then rolls around the floor doing a little jingle. After the orange button has been pressed for the 6,476,829th time it gets a bit tedious. Some cretin/demon has sprinkled it with the never ending power supply dust. After the 7,132,846th activation I started to twitch, and I could feel brain cells melting and others throwing themselves off my inner ear bones. Shortly after, I developed an overwhelming desire to kill it 🔥 At one point, Nanny (Mrs Gaz) said not to put it on a kitchen worktop in case it fell into a bowl off water. Hmmm, methought..... drowning seems like a topical way to go..... I have my suspicions it might be hard to kill. As in like a T800 level of hard to kill 🔫 If you hate your kids, buy their kids one of these infernal little monsters. Don't let them leave it at yours though - save yourselves!!! 😱 Grandkids have just left. Me, I'm off to see what alcohol I've got in't cupboard 🥃 G

  9. A survey commissioned by the BBC finds nearly 1 in 5 teachers in England has been hit by a pupil this year. While violence of this nature is obviously unacceptable, the survey reminded me of the extent to which things have changed over the last fifty years. During my time at school, something like 1 in 5 pupils had been hit by a teacher.

  10. My son was a drummer. Needless to say we had to leave the house when he & his mates had a band practices round ours. Now he's got his own house & our 1st grandson, I was hatching a plan to see how I can get his drum kit out of our loft & into his & get our grandson interested in it. He he he. 16. Thanks so much for the recommendations and apologies for the delay in acknowledging. I ended up trying MAD Motors in Santry and was really impressed. They were fantastic and i got the matrix, flush, timing belt and water pump done for just over 2/3 of what Skoda quoted me for just the matrix replacement. Am raging at that particular Skoda agent, that is an absolute disgrace. I am never going back to them. As for MAD Motors, I'm recommending them to everyone!

  19. Battery is toast… (or engine is seized) and I’m going with you know it’s not the second option 😂 The plates will be cracked or sulfated in the battery meaning it’s true storage capacity and output capacity is massively reduced enough to pull the voltage down that low

  20. Update on my "Old Mother Hubbard" tale from last night. Well, as it turned out the cupboard (AKA the Fridge) was not bare after all. Lurking at the back hidden by my wife's overflowing bags of veg & herbs (which seem to take up at least 75% of the fridge) was the remains of the Lamb Chop stew I made a few nights ago. Result. It still had some spuds in it as well so straight on the hob for a slow re-heat with some buttered bread to mop up the last of the juices. Just the job. However, The fridge definitely is bare now so I'll be getting some frozen mince out of the freezer for tomorrow & tonight will be a cheeky Kebab takeaway I think.

  22. If anyone finds themselves in a similar situation - to reject any product you should put it in writing. For example: "Dear Sir/Madam, Given the problems I've experienced since buying <product name> within the first 30days, I write to inform you that under the under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, I'm exercising my right to rejection. I await your instruction on how to return the product and refund the monies. Yours Sincerely" Then list the problem(s) underneath. If within the first 30 days of purchase then it's really is as simple as that. There's no need to contact anyone else. If the seller wants to contest it, it forces them to reply in writing. It would have to be a minor fault for them to successfully contest a rejection within the first 30 days. What's a minor fault? It's a fault that doesn't stop the product from functioning properly. If a window wiper is worn - that's a minor fault. If the CD player isn't working, common sense says you should let the seller have one attempt a repair or replacement ( an easy fix ). but there's still a chance it could be a basis for rejection. ( personally I wouldn't want the possibility of going down rejection over that - see my final point ) But if the car develops a fault and cannot be driven, that's obviously a major fault. For the life of me I cannot understand why any bona-fide dealer would even challenge rejection in the 1st 30days . It so obviously goes against our laws here in the UK, it would cost the seller more wasting their time challenging it. Another point from the above which is worthy of clarification. OP said the monies were refunded from the credit card company. That's what should happen. If you purchase faulty goods using credit then under the Consumer Credit Act, the credit company is liable. Yes they return your money - but remeber they're a bank, not a charity, they then have to recoup all their losses from the seller. So in effect it's the seller who's refunded you the money. That's what I cannot understand about the above case. The buyer receives a refund, so the question is who now owns the car? I really don't know the answer, but if the credit company have refunded the monies, doesn't that car now belong to the credit card company? I'd have thought they would now own the asset, at least until such time as they've recouped their losses from the seller. If all the above information given was correct, it could have so easily have been avoided by a simple letter as per above. All the extra losses re: engineer reports and whatever else - they were never necessary. Try to avoid rejection? Rejection is often never a good thing because the buyer is always going to loose out in someway. You buy a car, it's faulty within the 1st 30days, you reject it - easy peasy right? Nope. because you now don't have a car. That means you have the expense and/or inconvenience until such times as your money is refunded and you buy another car. To the best of my knowledge that money isn't refundable. If a product is faulty, by law you're only entitled to a full refund. That's why rejection should be a last resort. It's certainly not as straight forward as many people believe it to be.

  24. I keep forgetting to take a photo before diving into my nosebag and nom nom nom nomming. I could take a photo of the plate after the meal, but I've done such a good job of clearing it, I didn't even need moping up bread. Anyhoo the plan was to have posh lamb burgers with spicy fries, suedy/carrot mash, various veg and a spot of mint sauce. But I had frozen the veg previously and forgot to take them out in time for my tea. .. Doh! So I had beanz with my burger and fries I feel great too. (probably better make sure I have some statins on standby and a phone nearby, just in case of heart failure) I should add, I allowed myself this junk treat as I've done some proper exercise today (as if I needed an excuse )

  29. 35mn is already quite long. And with new water pump technology, TDI heats up quite quickly. My TDI190 is already 6 years old, no particular issue about mpg or regen though I only have a 15-20mn commute drive. The only thing is to full throttle sometimes (when engine has reached its normal operating temp) to avoid EGR issue clogged with soot.
