  1. Cheers for the reply, years ago starter motors sometimes got jammed and rocking the car in gear was the way to free them, pre-engaged starters were supposed to alleviate the problem, the car always starts it just really struggles to turn over when it's hot.
  2. Sorry not sure how I managed to post this twice, how do I delete one?
  3. Hi Chaps, just wondered if anyone has had slow cranking when hot, I have an 08 2.0 TDI which starts perfect all the time except when it has only been turned off for a short time, it struggles to turn over like the battery was flat yet any other time it spins over fine, I've changed the battery with a 74 amp although that seems to have been a waste of money as it's exactly the same! Cheers.
  4. Cheers will have a look at that, the switch opens the fronts but not the backs, not sure about the boot I will check, it's a pain as I use that switch a fair bit.
  5. Hi Chaps, I have a 2.0tdi and the rear doors no longer open and lock with the central locking button on the console, the fronts open & lock fine and the rears open fine with a double click on the key fob but not on the button, any advice where I could look would be great Cheers.
  6. I got a new joining piece from the dealer £15, not sure why it fell off but must have worked loose over the years.
  7. Hi chaps, my exhaust fell in half on the way to Whitby last night and I've just got a chance to look under the car, the 2 ends are perfectly square is there a jointing piece that I have lost as I can't work it out Cheers. It's a 2.0 TDI 08 PD model thanks.
  8. Massive thanks for the info guys, you probably saved me a small fortune. I was sure all tail light bubs were the same. (What am I like?)
  9. Thanks for the replies, I'm still not convinced there is different kinds of bulbs but I hope there is as replacing the bulb holder will cost me a fortune I bet, sounds like a trip to Halfords.
  10. Cheers but the blown one was defo twin filament brake & tail, the lights are so dim it's immpossible to tell they are on compared to the other side.
  11. This may be a daft question but is there more than one type of Brake/Tail light bulb? I finally got round to replacing a blown bulb in my 08 Octavia which is the standard twin filament type that has been used for decades in various cars, I bought 2 new 5w bulbs from a petrol station and when I fitted one, it was very very dim and oddly when I press the brake the same filament lights up just brighter, the other filament never comes on, both bulbs are the same and only go in one way due to the offset pins on the bulb. Do I need special bulbs or is the cluster (which contains 4 bubs) faulty? Hope that all makes sense, thanks for the help.
  12. Hi Chaps I have an 08 Octavia withe the standard Stream Mp3 head unit,I mainly use the stereo to play back radio podcasts from cd some of which are up to an hour long, my problem is sometimes when I leave the car and then restart the podcast goes back to the start which is a total pain, and other times it re-starts at the last place just fine,is there anything I can do to stop it happening apart from buying a new head unit? Thanks.
  13. I just sprayed it over the base of the rad where the the wires come out and all over really, I think it was luck rather than skill, bit awkward to get in but I extended the little tube, been OK for over a year now.
  14. Had my 08 for 3 years and still happy, the cooling fans started coming on for no reason during the night but half a tin of wd40 and it hasn't happened since, it's had a lumpy tick over since I bought it and a remap didn't make any difference otherwise it's been great.
  15. I have just found a step by step guide on Youtube. Sorry Guys I should have looked there first.
  16. Hi Chaps, I have an Octavia with the standard Stream mp3 head unit, I just want to know how to wire an auxiliary lead to it so I can plug a dab radio in. I know cars with the centre arm rest get one as standard, does the head unit need to be removed and if so is it obvious at the back where this lead goes Cheers.
  17. Cheers for the replies chaps, the dealer does need the car for the day and wants to know if he should de-activate the lost key, it may turn up so I will probably say no although I think the dog has eaten it (He has history)
  18. Hi Chaps, I have lost my spare flick key (the one with the plastic tag on) I know they are at least £200 from dealers, has anyone bought one lately? And does anybody know if I can just leave the main key with the dealer for them to clone or do I need to leave the car with them? Cheers.
  19. Cheers I have had a look but I can't see how water gets in but I will have a better look tommorow.
  20. My Octavia’s boot contacts need cleaning as sometimes my rear wiper stops working even when the boot is shut properly, if I open and re-close the tailgate the wiper works again. Where are the contacts and is there any way of cleaning and wd40ing them? Thanks chaps.
  21. My cooling fans were coming on for no reason even during the night flattening the battery, I took it in to my local dealer who could find nothing wrong gave me the car back and it never did it again, that was at least 6 month ago, I did spray wd40 in to the conector the day before so mayby that cured it. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/164769-cooling-fans/page__p__2014281__fromsearch__1entry2014281
  22. Well job done, not too bad even with my giant hands, if anybody else needs to do this job a ratchet spanner is a god send so beg steal or borrow one before you do the job as it makes it so much easier, the new lens was £65.25 from Slacks in Middlesbrough but I had no time to shop around.
  23. Thanks for the big help chaps, the step by step guide should make it a lot easier.
  24. Hi chaps any advice on how to remove a rear tail light cluster? I reversed in to a wheelie bin last week and just wanted to see if it’s a straight forward job or not. Cheers
