  1. Welcome. Is there a record of the VAQ Front diff serviced each 3 years / 30,000 miles, & the DQ250 DSG each 40,000 miles. The 'Factory Trained' Skoda Main Dealers certainly should be able to service them properly. If you do not trust them then use who you do trust. As long as they know what they are doing and when Servicing and Maintenance is required.
  2. That is why the DSG has not been serviced then. I would be more concerned about the VAQ diff if not already properly serviced. You will need that doing if no record of it. There have been failures / leaks. There are a couple of threads i posted info in. Now Mk4 Octavia are @ 2 years / 20,000 miles.
  3. @Graham Butcher Many people are commuters and Sales Reps / Commercial travellers and using EV,s, but that is a known known. Many people have many miles to get anyplace all around the UK. You might well be right about people from Orkney, but then you are not always right. So they might not leave taking their car, they might fly or go by ferry and then hire / borrow cars. Maybe BEV,s since many are used to them. Point being. Lots of people in the UK are only going driving in a 25 mile area. Local people using local shops and doing local miles. Go to public chargers and you might not need to guess. Maybe go to Orkney, Sheltland or other Island Communities. Local renewables and chargers & people that know the cost of things and the value.
  4. @varaderoguyit is over a decade since Skoda had a 4 year / 40,000 miles Service Schedule. That changed after VW went to 30,000 miles and then Skoda went 30,000 miles / 3 years.
  5. Thankfully the Petrol in the UK is lovely stuff with 95 ron min, or super unleaded 97 or 99 min and detergents. The oil as well, detergents. I would want to be able to buy an extended warranty, especially with a DQ381 so getting a warranty that covers it is important.
  6. As to the BMW tech. I think they might need to Phone a Friend, or watch a Youtube Video. There might be all the gear and not really the idea. Oil & Filter, not just oil, regardless of what they say. ? How many miles has it done?
  7. It is an odd one with the Taycan guy in the vid. PodPoint at the house not working but does not get another 7 kW AC charger installed to charge the car in 10-11 hours or half the battery in 5-6 hours, he gets a 3 pin AC Cable. EV Charger required to work 99% of the time. Well the ones in Scotland mess that up if it is UK wide. Actually BP Pulse UK wide must with their reliability or lack of.
  8. The SNP / Scottish Green party coalition is over in Scotland. Now the SNP are a minority government. Tara to the Green Snouters and Ministerial Cars for their Co-leaders. Not very Green Transport being used by them and entourage. 'Get on yer bikes.'
  9. Is it a DQ381 7 speed wet clutch DSG with a Service Schedule of 80,000 miles? Sensible to have the DSG serviced before that miles, but those doing it need to know what they are doing, do they? ? Has the VAQ front diff been serviced at 3 years / 30,000 miles? so Twice now. Have the spark plugs been replaced, and the Air Filter? Has the brake fluid been changed? Actually has the Servicing History so far been to the Manufacturers Guidelines, recommendations, specification or Schedule?
  10. There is a looking crisis in the UK. Already obesity and Type 2 Diabetics. The Governments are not helping with the drive to EV,s. So many with EV,s seem to think Public Charging involves eating and drinking and that cost at fast food places. There are chargers at fitness centres and they are also expensive but Rapid Charging at Fitness Centres might not suit Centre Users as you might be training for an hour and the car does not need that long, and after all you will spend a lot of money if you need a big battery car filled up at 75 pence a kWh or more. More Public Charging Hubs & Park & Rides with Bike hire at them are needed. Maybe using Hire Bikes and parking hubs from Failed City Bike Hiring which has been common around the UK. Millions spent on bikes people never used because the costs were ridiculous. Going walking is another thing EV drivers might want to do if they have 40-60 minutes to spend charging the car. Not to go walk to some eatery though. Or go have a 5 mile walk round a Golf Course hitting a ball while people are needing to get their car charged and on with the day. Money not a problem for many though when they do want Luxury vehicles, big battery cars etc. Maybe they have a wind turbine or 3 as part of their pension plan.
  11. @Graham Butcher They actually have Ferry Services and get off the islands and might even travel to your 20 and further. The vehicles actually get there on a boat. Do you know that many people all around the UK only drive locally much of the time and maybe take occasional longer trips and do not always need long range big vehicles for day to day use. Then there is the servicing and maintenance for those where there are no MAIN DEALERS around, or even a choice of garages or mechanics. Like on islands and rural areas. Not everyone is within a spitting distance of these.
  12. @Stuart231 Welcome. They were not Tyre Garages were they, were they Tyre & Exhaust Fitting Centres with 'Fitters' or did the MOT tester have a look under the car to see if any work was needed? Best get any work done by a mechanic / Garage before and Checking or Adjustments are paid for. Adjusting worn suspension or steering is no 'simple clever'. Work first if needed. As to ATS Euromaster, First you best check their equipment is actually working. Then the trained staff member is available, then that they can actually make the required adjustment. & you need a new tyre or 2 or 4 most likely.
  13. @Lee John McDonnell MP if it was him is the Ex Shadow Chancellor but very much a MP. So just another one guessing and if his lips move you know it is likely because he is blowing smoke up Jeremy Corbyn MP,s back end. He is also not an Ex MP. They stay on the gravy train until kicked off.
  14. I would be pricing up new discs and getting them on. Not just chipping the edge off of those i see in the picture, ? What does the inner side look like?
  15. There are a higher percentage of people getting an EV on the Orkneys per population than elsewhere, and in Scotland compared to regions in the RofUK. There are authorities and organisations getting ready to buy or lease maybe their 2nd or 3rd fleet of vehicles. Lots of used are going into the trade again this year from ones that were rented out cheaply / loaned during the Covid years. Those that own cars might actually hold onto them if they really can not get a good sale price or trade in and the car is suiting their needs. Time will tell how it really goes and as for spin from the SMMT or whoever that is how they operate. Loads and loads of Ev,s oop north, that is in northern bit of the UK, not the north of England which is not far north in the scheme of things. & that includes very new registered ones & not just demonstrators.
  16. You will find plenty threads or posts on Briskoda. Various causes.
  17. Motability are certainly trying to make them look good with the low advance payments, that comes from the low cost to them from the manufacturers and the chargers installed where they can if they can. Anyway, what does it matter to anyone that does not want a BEV? Unless they might want one really and are looking forward to 'Much Cheapness'. They are going to have to punt them somehow, first register them, lease / rent them cheaply.
  18. @Andre1984 Do you mean it had an Oil & Inspection service & the year before that and the Extended Scope? Or was that a 2nd Variable / Flexible Service. ? Are you saying the spark plugs have not been replaced then? So no idea how they are looking.
  19. Heid yins of various manufacturers importers wanting grants again for plug in's. The Government not going to cut the VAT on Public Charging. Even wealthy people with an understanding of money on the likes of Wake Up to Money on Radio 4 have lost half the value of a new Sporty BEV. There are now Porsche Taycans available for £40,000 grand. Senior citizens having to check if they have tax to pay or a bill coming because of a little increase in income. The Government could not give a monkeys, they are jumping ship anyway from front line politics and have nice new jobs lined up. The Manufacturers & Dealerships need to be using area of land they have to get more chargers in and get the Zero Emissions cars at the prices to sell or lease because if not they will be missing the percentage of first registrations and paying huge penalties. The kidology of Partners that had BEV,s built and selling to get the Fleet Average Emissions has not helped them now. There are still shortages of some of the electric cars people actually do want to drive.
  20. @Andre1984 Did the car get new spark plugs in 2023 at a service or at 40,000 miles?. (Misfires, not enough to log a fault code maybe, but have the EPC light on.)
  21. On ITV4 @ 20.00-21.00 tonight 24th April 2024. Highlights from the British Rally Championship 2024 round 2. Rallynuts Severn Valley Stages. Gravel Stages.
  22. It does not slip the clutch to keep the revs up. It is a dsg. As to disengaging before stopping, it might be coasting before stopping. some will turn the engine off before stopping, and the 1.5 TSI ACT might well be in 2 cylinder mode as you roll on forward until actually stopped and the brake pedal pushed. Then Stop / Start if not switched off, Autohold on vehicles with an e-brake.
  23. £280. But i have Ray-Bans that had retail prices at half that but were bought during sales. Worth every penny IMO. The glasses / frames of just Ray-bans are not. Really very handy but so far i have not found how to put the pictures across to e-mails but to WhatsApp, Facebook and that kind of socials is easy but not what i want to do. A 'Twisted' 90 taken using the specs. "Hey Meta" take a picture. or "Hey Meta video.
