I think you could turn them off through the i-drive in the BMW though, but that thing was so damn complicated we couldnt figure out how to!

Although them one touch indicators take some getting used to! For those who dont know, to signal left, you just touch the lever down and it immediately comes back to a level position again. To cancel the signal, you have to push it down again! The confusion comes when you try to push it up to cancel it, like normal, but then, hang on, you're signalling right instead! So not being used to it you push the lever down to cancel instead of up again, but oh no, you're signalling left again. People behind must have though we were ****ed or something!

Had a blast in a 535d also. And yep, they are awesome cars! They are at their best when on the motorways though, and not as good as the 3 series on the twisties. On the motorways I have never been in a car that can accelerate to 150mph so quickly (still legally aswell!) and it does it with just so little effort. Its just like driving a high performance cloud!

Love the 330d. The 330d SE is the one with 230ish bhp. The 330d has a semi auto gearbox is a dream to use, and makes the driving the car fast so easy! I drive one every day and love the way it drives and feels. The handling is superb and very easy to control oversteer. I have chased an octy vrs (legally i might add), in triple figures in one, and have found that the bmw is quite a good match for the skoda, although I was very surprised by how quick the skoda really can be! The mid range grunt of that diesel engine is awesome, and you can feel the acceleration is all gears. But best of all, with that low down grunt, and huge amounts of grip, off the line it is hard to beat. Just plant the accelerator and damn does it go, whereas the vrs can be a bit spinny in 1st gear.
Just my 2p! ;-)

Just spoken to the owner of the car and the cam belt was changed at the last service. The next service is due in 3000 miles. Seeing as in the last year I've put only 4000 miles on my focus, thats not a problem. One slight hurdle.......the misses will only allow us to get a black one!

Do the cars tend to lose performance? I drove one that had 40k miles and went like a rocket compared to one I drove that had done 120k.
Some nice points here guys. VERY useful, keep em coming!

Looking at Octavia Vrs's on Autotrader and Ebay and lots seem to get sold at about 60k or70k miles. What should I be aiming for when looking at a car. Is it at this mileage that things start going wrong? If so what are common faults etc.
The one I'm, looking at is a 02 plate vrs in silver with 71k miles for

All the other systems rely on one of the tracking device company's operators liaising with the police control room, who then have to direct the police officers to wherever your car is. OK if it's hidden away somewhere not moving, but far too complicated IMO if your car was being driven about the place at high speed
Yeah but the info is still in live time. The police controller would be on the phone to the tracker operator getting live updates from them which are passed immediately to the police officers. They can just say 'Car is travelling on the hith street now,' that passed straight to the police officers. Much quicker and easier than looking at a tiny screen trying to figure out what roads might be in the direction that the signal is coming from and then trying to figure out how far it is away. And thats only if the car is not moving. Get it on the move and you might never know which road the car is on! Trust me, I've done it and its hard! You can be right on top of it according to the display but just be the wrong side of a fence with a 2 mile round trip to the right road. GPS is far more accurate. I have seen police directed to stolen vehicles on the move with so much ease!
If it was me, I would still go with the RAC GPS ones. Like I said earlier, the car would need to be within range (about 2 miles) of a police car, which has a police officer in it, and the chances of that arent great. And then it has to be a car that actually has the equipment. Our traffic cars dont anymore. Only area cars, and theres 1 in my police area, which is about 35 square miles.

I've got all these, plus the stick, and what on earth next? Had the key with the hand come out of the well saying I've got to pay for the key. And how do I do that then? Doing my nut this game!

Hiya matey, I would go for the RAC trackstar one here:
http://www.ractrackstar.co.uk/index.aspx
This one is a GPS system, if the car is stolen, even without your knowledge, an RAC Trackstar operator will phone the police and can give them up to the second information about the exact location of your car. You pay £299 hardware, £10 per month, £30 per quarter or £120 per annum. Or you could pay £325 for as ong as you own the car. Installation charge is extra.
If you look here:
http://www.uktracking.com/uktracking/
You will see tracker monitor and tracker retrieve. The tracker montior one is permenantly operating, and instantly sends out a signal to the receivers once the car has been illegally moved. The tracker retrieve one required you to see that you car has been stolen and phone tracker, whereas the monitor one, they ring you to check to see if its supposed to be moving!
The difference between these 2 systems is the way they work. RAC is GPS whereas the other 2 emmit radio signals. The RAC one might not work if it was scooped straight into a crate, whereas the Tracker one would. However, the RAC one locates the vehicle in live time, with pinoint accuracy, whereas for the tracker to work, there has to be a police vehice within about 2 miles of the stolen car, and then its only located by the officer following which direction the signal is coming from. Its pretty hard, trust me! And also, only area cars (1 per area) have these receivers fitted in our constabulary (hampshire.) You need firstly the police car to be in range by chance, and secondy for there to actually be a police officer in the car to pick up the activation, which isnt always the case.
As the prices are pretty much the same, i woud go for the RAC one. Yeah it wont work in a crate or under a bridge, but I reckon because of the accuracy, you've got a better chance of getting it back before they get chance to think about doing that!
Apparently Cobra have or will be bringout out a rival system. Cant seem to find much detail on that at the moment.
Hope this helps a bit.

Oh yes it's modded! The mods quickly bumped the insurance up. Manifold, induction kit, exhaust, you name it. end result was 135bhp out of a 1.6, but its strange that I can insure a faster standard car for less than this!
I am 6'7", so i'll avoid the sunroof then. Thanks for that! I've seen a VRS fitted with the sat nav in a showroom, but think it was about £1000 extra. Got it on my PDA so no loss there. Black or siver is the ideal colour and never had cruise control on a car so its not important to me anyway!

I've done the insurance stuff. Will be cheaper to insure a standard vrs than my focus. And that incudes the misses on there aswell, with a claim and points against her! Only ever had a ford service once. never again. All the work since has been at Power Engineering in Uxbridge so not too worried about servicing costs. I've looked at the for sale section for the past few weeks, and I'm just trying to build a bit of knowledge about the car before jumping into buying one. Got a wedding to pay for in April so we're getting that out the way first! Am I right in thinking then that the vrs comes in different specs? I've seen a couple with xenons and parking sensors. What else is available?

Hi all, been looking at these forums for a bit and theres a lot of knowledge floating about! I'm thinking of changing my current car (1.6 ford focus, with just about every mod available) for an Octavia Vrs. I have driven one and love the performance and the feel of the car, but is there anything I should be looking for in particular when test driving/looking at a potential purchase? Are there common faultsor major things that can go wrong? Just basically looking for some sound advice really!
I'm looking to spend about
Is this a modified Focus ST?

Shame for the other motorist that looks like he/she just got ploughed into the back of by someone driving too fast and not paying attention. Hope no one was killed cos it looks as if the Hyundai stopped at the crossing and he just rear ended him. Prat.
