Which oil do I need for 2002 diesel

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 Skoda Octavia TDi 4x4 (First registered in Switzerland in 11/2002.) motorcode ESW 9102 20 74KW ATD

According to the Halfords page I need 5w30 if I have PD engine, 5w40 if I have not got PD engine but do have variable service and 5W40 if I do not have PD engine but have fixed service.

How do I find out if I have PD engine or not and if I don't how do I find out if I have variable service?

With Pd Eng (from 01\2001 to 12\2002) -5W40

W/o Pd Eng Variable Serv (from 01\2001 to 12\2004) - 5W30

W/o Pd Eng Fixed Service (from 01\2001 to 12\2004) - 5W40

Firstly the 5w30 / 5w40 is not the spec you need to be concentrating on, with all VAG engines you need to use the correct VW50?.?? oil the best of the lot is VW507.00 and is suitable for ALL diesel engines on fixed and variable servicing - and has to be used if the car has a DPF (which you will not have)

To check to see if you are on fixed or variable, the easiest way is to see if the car has been serviced every 10,000 miles / 1 year, if it has then you are on fixed, if the intervals are up to 18,000 miles and 3 years you will be on variable, in the front of the service book it will also give you a QC1 etc code - BUT that will only tell you what the car was on when it left the factory!

OK, Thankyou very much for that for that.

So which VW50x xx is also suitable?

Castrol Magnatec diesel is VW505 00/VW505 01

Castrol edge turbo desiel 5w40 is VW 505 01 / 505 00 / 502 00

Castrol edge turbo desiel 5w30 VW 504 00 / 507 00

So do I have to use the 5w30 cause its 507 00 or are the others ok too?

According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%A0koda_Octavia

1.9 8v TDI Diesel 1,896 cc (1.896 L; 115.7 cu in) 4cyl SOHC PD 100 PS (74 kW; 99 hp) @4000 rpm 240 N·m (180 lb·ft) @1800–2400 rpm ATD/AXR 2000–2010

Accoring to my manual I have 74kw and engine code ATD so why is it not PD

You can't go wrong with 504.00/507.00 latest spec vag oils ( any brand like castrol, motul, fuchs...). this latest spec covers nearly all older specs as well. will definitely be great for your tdi :-)
