LED upgrade to boot lighting

Recommended Posts

I am about to replace my bulbs in the boot interior. I have the housings out but I can't for the life of me separate the metal box from the clear plastic part. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Matt

You need to prise the metal gently away from the plastic housing. I used a very small screwdriver to get an initial opening, and then held it with something like a credit card whilst repeating on the other side.

Then before re-fitting re-shape the metal if needed.

Had led bulbs in for a year with no problem.

Do disconnect when fitting though to avoid shorting the contacts as you insert.

Very fiddly to get in but worth it.

Also added a switched full length LED strip as I work from my car.

If you do short the contacts read this

I wired these into the car hatch absolutely brilliant certainly a lot cheaper than replacing with the original lights http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6x-12V-LED-STRIP-DRL-DAYTIME-RUNNING-LIGHTS-FOG-COB-CAR-LAMP-WHITE-DAY-DRIVING-/172359171337?var=&hash=item2821683d09:m:maWWGIQPHoLysD6ou5v_Ejw

Top interior lights in front and back are replaced with white LED's, but all 8 low level lights were replaced from crappy yellow-ish bulbs to neon-blue LED's.

White elements on shoes or socks lits up really nice :)

Not exactly same auction, but they are named the same way:

Blue, pack of 10, even cheaper than mine..

They are tiny, to the point that you do need to unplug wires when fitting. Once fitted they stay ok, but during setup they tend to turn in socket.
