HELP! Car is dead - wont turn over but battery & electrics are fine.

Recommended Posts

Okey so so i tried to hot wire it to straight to the positive on the battery and solenoid did not respond , and then i tried the motor and also no respond ? so do you guys think the starter is just plain dead ?

i did check all the wires and all seems ok , should i take it out and test it better ?

Thank you all in advance.

WHY guess. Simplest way to check that voltage is reaching the solenoid is to test for it. No need for a meter- something like as sidelight bulb with wires will do. One wire to the solenoid activate wire, and one to earth. If lamp lights when key is turned, then wiring on +side is ok. Re test from battery +ve to starter body-again lamp should light,.If not poor /missing earth to engine. The only way to check the solenoid contacts is with a meter, and anything near 0.5 volts when the solenoid is activated means poor solenoid contacts = new solenoid needed.

Ouch thats expensive. I guess I lucked out ( again ) on mine recently with it just being a wire.

Although I do feel a bit of a t.w.a.t replacing the battery ( just outside of 4 year warranty), but seemingly not the failure of starting.

On plus side means I have once again a warranteed battery now for 4 years lol.
