Well, the important thing is that the engine and gearbox really does fit. (mostly)

It's definately a packaging challenge, but Luke at Jabbasport is not short of ideas.

Certainly one of the more tricky 1.8t fitting locations.

I'd like to bet this is the first non-standard engine ever to find it's way behind a Citygo bumper, even if it's going to take a while to get it running...

It just needed a few things removing, with more to go or be adapted.

Currently the catch on the bonnet sits on the inlet, with the bonnet open about 1cm.

There's a few options for that, but getting the bonnet shut is fairly small on the list of things to do.

The important thing is it fits between the chassis legs and as the bulkhead is quite far back it will go in there.

Steering rack needs relocating too, (not too much though) but one handy thing is the power steering is electric and not under the bonnet at all, the unit to provide assistance is behind the dashboard. The steering rack is quite small and just needs a new mounting frame further out of the way of the 4WD gearbox.

Have to say after today I am feeling rather optimistic about this.

As they've only been making the Up/CityGo/Mii about three months or so I doubt a lot are getting chopped up yet.

It's about the same length as a Fabia one to the offside wheel.

It just looks very long because it's thin and the CV joint was chopped off right on the edge of the picture.

We are working on that. Behind the bumper would be good and there is some space, but it will also need a large intercooler to get to 350bhp+ for anything more than a short sprint.

Being 4x4 will acually help weight balance as there will be a diff under the back.

Plus some things can be relocated, like the battery.

If we go mad there is the option of a bit of carbon fibre. I'd estimate a saving of 8-10kg just on the bonnet.

Once it's up and runing it can be corner weighted and then decisionss made. But that's a long, long way off yet...
