Panorama

Having toc h camera kit, which predates "In-Camera" hardware generated panoramas, I rely on software to stitch together individual frames. The Microsoft ICE seems to do a good job most of the time:-

But it doesn't always go well. Witness, these two:-

- Too great an angular span for the total panorama and insufficient angular overlap between the component shots, meant that these two didn't join up.

-Red car spotters please note.

Try the links now.

Sometimes the software thinks it can link-up the frames, but it can't and it produces distortion:-

Also, where the panorama spans an area moving away or to a light source, the linked shots won't tolerate a camera set to full automatic:-

And then occasionally, the software really goofs and links to like but disparate parts of different frames:-

But 75% of the time results aren't bad (And this was the first time I'd used the software):-

. . . . I think I got away with this one . . (Can you spot the join(s) ?):-

Fair bit of melt on that glacier. Where is it, if I may be so bold ?

Nick

You may, it is the Pasterze just off the Grossglockner in Austria.

When you walk down onto the glacier it is amazing how much it as shrunk in a relatively short time, the lift used to reach the main body, now there is a half hour hike!

Some stunning photos in here. I'm strictly an amateur who discovered the panorama feature on my phone and got a bit trigger happy with it on holiday. Quality is pretty rubbish, but look not bad for no effort whatsoever.

Some from my camera; fuji x10, all done in camera, hand held, all in Norway.

Some are actually quite nice, one is botch as a result of people moving too soon. I personally like my vertical ones. Although hard to get horizon level while hanging of a couple of #2 nuts.
