Octavia III VCDS Adaptations - tried and tested

Seeing as the threads on the Octavia III section are getting clogged up with comments, requests etc, I am starting a LOCKED thread here with tried and tested VCDS adaptations.
 
If you discover anything and have tested it, please start a NEW thread in the O3 section and include a full description and VCDS screenshots (as per the below), and if possible a photo or two of the results. Drop me a PM and I will then include on here and link back to your post and give you the credit. Any discussions around the mod can then take place in the original thread, and this thread becomes a 'bible' of mods that have been tried and tested.
 
I will have to unlock this thread from time to time to update, please don't post if the thread is unlocked so I can keep it tidy. Any comments, additions, errors etc. please notify me by PM.

EDIT: Some features appear not to work on 2015MY cars. Rain closing definitely doesn't as a new RLHS sensor has been introduced. A new RLFS has been introduced as of MY16.5 and this does seem to support rain closing.

 

Please use the latest VCDS version, which at 27/02/16 is 15.7.4

Earlier versions do not provide full support for the MQB platform, especially for MY15.5 and MY16 vehicles.

15.7.3 onwards provides support for 5F MIB2 units in MY16 onwards cars

 

Most of these screenshots were taken with earlier versions of VCDS, so the Adaptation channel numbers may have changed slightly as more gets documented and different revisions of controllers have different features. On Adaptation channels it is the description that is important, not the number in brackets. Use the search function in the adaptation dialogue to narrow down the choices, especially on the BCM (Controller 09).

 

Please note that any changes to lights configuration may not be legal in your region, it is up to you to check and ensure that any changes you make do not breach any regulations. These posts are only an indication of what is possible, not advice on the legality of the change.

 

For MY16 cars with MIB2 Infotainment units you must use 15.7.4 with HEX+CAN USB leads.

Enabling both rear fog lights

Change the 2 channels listed below - scroll to just over halfway down the long list of adaptation channels to find them. Do them one after the other, and do not come out of the adaptations until you have finished. If you do, you will have to close the controller and go back in and enter the security access code again.

 

You have a couple of options here - the original values are

(4)-Leuchte26NSL LA72-Lichtfunktion A 26 - Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Rechtsverkehr 

(4)-Leuchte27NSL RC6-Lichtfunktion A 27 - Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Linksverkehr 

which translate roughly as rear fog lights when trailer not connected and right hand traffic and rear fog lights when trailer not connected and left hand traffic

 

So, for use on the continent you could just swap the values over and the left fog light would light up.

 

A third option is available - Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt - rear fog light when trailer not connected. I set both of mine to this value and they both come on, but if you set them both to Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Linksverkehr they both come on as well.

 

This has been tested on LED Hatch & Combi rear clusters, and standard Combi.

Edit: Following feedback, check the behaviour of the rear fogs after making the coding change. If you change the side of the road in Infotainment you could end up with no rear fog lights if they are both set to Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Linksverkehr in the UK and you go to the continent.

 

The safest setting seems to be setting both to Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt

 

UPDATE FOR MY2015 CARS

 

Having met up with vrsalan as the above didn't work on his MY2015 vRS, it seems VAG have tried to get clever and altered the adaptations on the new 5Q0 937 086 AA BCM.

 

You also need to set the brightness for the near side fog light, as VAG have left this channel completely disabled on this BCM. You will notice that (4)-Leuchte26NSL LA72-Lichtfunktion A 26 isn't set to any function before you change it.

 

So, change (6)-Leuchte26NSL LA72-Dimmwert AB 26 from 0 to 100 and the near side fog will work. For left hand drive cars this will be change (6)-Leuchte27NSL RC6-Dimmwert AB 27 from 0 to 100.

Enabling rainclosing - perform this at your own risk

There have been reports of this causing problems with the Leaving Home function

This does not work on MY2015 cars with the new RLHS Sensor

 

I can now confirm this works!! - UPDATE - VCDS BETA 14.6.0 CAN NOW CODE THE RLFS

You will now have a menu in Infotainment

 

There is a requirement to code the RLFS (Rain Light Humidity Sensor) to 06885D - but I am unable to change the coding on the RLFS with VCDS. This has been logged with Ross-Tech support for assistance. It can be changed with VCP though.

 

I had to go into the Car Setup menu on the Infotainment unit and turn Convenience Opening off, then set it back to All Windows to get this to start working. You may also have to disable and enable Automatic Rain Closing as well.

 

To test, make sure the wiper stalk is in the Auto position. Turn the ignition on and off, then get out of the car and close the door. Hold down the unlock button on the remote until the windows drop an inch or two. Now lock the car. Leave it a couple of minutes then 'drum' lightly with a couple of fingers on the rain sensor and the windows will close

 

Just need Ross-Tech to get this working with VCDS, the only way you can code the RLFS at the moment is with VCP.

Thanks to ollybroad for the screenshots and colour maxidot piccies and trying this one out

Thanks to Neily03 for letting me try this on his car and standard maxidot piccies, and I can confirm it works with Bolero & Standard Maxidot - BUT on models without sat nav you get an error message pop up when you start the car that the traffic recognition has restricted functionality and an error on the car status on the Infotainment unit, basically because you don't have a sat nav. It is highly recommended NOT to enable this unless you have a MIB Columbus or Amundsen - you still get the restricted functionality warning though with those.

I haven't tested this, but I am assuming your front foglights are also coded as cornering lights. This means we have to assign a 3rd function to the front fogs. If you haven't coded cornering fogs then look at the post for the cornering fogs and set the values of function B to Tagfahrlicht (Daytime Running Lights).

 

The following channels need changing to a value of 'Tagfahrlicht' (Daytime Running Light)

(8)-Leuchte12NL LB45-Lichtfunktion C 12) from not active  to Daytime running lights

The following 2 channels need to be changed to a value of 100

This is for cars WITHOUT Lane Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. This will enable the option to display the speed limit data embedded in the map data on the Columbus screen. Some cars seem to have come from the factory without this enabled. You will now get an extra menu under the Map Menu as shown below. Thanks to spacenase for travelling all the way from the West Midlands and letting me scan his car so I could play 'spot the difference'.

Change to 'active' (the setting it was on when the ignition was turned off will remain next time you start the car) or 'active for 10 minutes' (if you return to the car within 10 minutes the seat heater level will be retained).

 

Do the same for 'Retention of driver's seat heater level'

·         change to  12.1V ( standaard is 7.6V)

 

The Start-Stop will show as disabled because the energy requirement from the car is too high, which is not an error but a valid reason for SS to be disabled.

DRLs flash alternately with indicating

 

This will cause the LED DRL to dim when the indicator bulb is on, and go back to the brightness it was before when the indicator is off, so flashing out of phase with the indicator
