garyLee - Down here in AUS most of the Skoda stuff is covered by VW employees.  They like to make out they are seperate, independant entities in strong competition with each other but they aren't.  I'm sure this is a common practice in many parts of the world.

 

PS: I have no idea why your question is relevant to this thread.  Why not start a new one?

Re cam belt:

 

I have a 1.6l TDI CR FAP engine from sept. 2009, on which I just had the cam belt + pump replaced because the pump had sprung a leak, after about 125kkm and 6 years. (That's a known issue on this and the 1.9l engine, btw, from what I hear.)

The official change interval for this engine is 210000km, distance only, no age. On a parallel thread, I learned that the Danish importer had published an additional age limit, which was indeed on the order of 6 years, until VAG ordered them to withdraw the indication.

FWIW, I'm having my car maintained in an independent, multi-brand workshop by someone who gets his clients through the quality of his work, not from brand name (and that's despite the fact that the national VAG importer HQ and service site is closer to home). He considers 6 years a good age to start considering a cam belt replacement.

Hi, l have received an email from skoda saying my cam belt is due for replacement. I had a new on fitted with a water pump 20 months ago. Cost then with a skoda dealer was 196.00 my independent skoda dealer has been taken over by Sandicliffe cost now with Water pump is 459.00 neither of these figures include vat.. Now I have contacted Sandicliffe to get information on when cam belts are due to be replaced as per skoda recommendations..my Vrs has done 44,000mls from new..

Anyone know of replacement mileage or times as to when it should be replaced.

Evening All,

 

My brother is the one with the car, i am just trying to help fix it!

 

he has a dpf fault and car is stuck in limp home mode, what we are trying to do is get the car out of limp home mode and force a regenration of the dpf

 

any tips?

sorry for being bone but where is the fuel filter i have a 2007 1.6 fsi petrol i've done most  of the other stuff but as i can't get a haynes manual for my model so if any one can help it would be appreciated

just in front of the RH rear wheel.  There's been a few threads on it with guides / photos.

 

Search youtube for Golf MKV fuel filter change & you'll see how it's done

Hi,

I am completely ignorant about servicing and anything that goes on under the car bonnet so hoping someone can help!

I bought my 2012 Octavia 2.0 diesel in September ( week before the VW scandal)

I am confused about the service interval.

The service schedule book shows a variable service Nov 11 at 67220 miles...next service due: As per dash.

Today my dash has a message saying ' Service Due' but the mileage is just 72300 miles, so only 5k since last service.

Do I REALLY need to take notice of this message, or should I just get an oil change at this stage?

The service interval isn't just mileage based, it goes on time too.

 

The last service was done in November 2011 or the 11th November?

 

A variable (long life) service is up to 20,000 miles or 2 years. The car decides when it needs fresh oil.

 

A fixed service interval is 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first.

Sorry for my typing error.

The last service was 26th November 2014.. it said 'varaiable'in the service book, but as its just over a year since its last service, maybe the set up on the car is for 12 months. Confused.com lol!

In my experience they may have done the service to variable specification but they do tend to reset the interval to fixed one year services which would mean the light would have come on in November this year. Still in my opinion it would be worth giving it some fresh oil at least once a year anyway.

Very useful. Here is another one from the Owners Manual concerning the car battery.

Batteries, which are more than 5 years old, must be replaced. We recommend you have the battery checked or replaced by a specialist garage.

 

I still have the original battery on my 05 plate Octavia Mk2 pfl 1.9 tdi. Its fitted with a VARTA 1J0 915 105 AD, 12V 61Ah 330A DIN. Are there any issues with replacing it myself if it needs it. I do seem to have a few fault codes that relate to low power on electrical systems. Any recommendations for a replacement?

There is a biggest battery for mark 2 octavia thread on here. I recently replaced my original battery in a 2005 TDI 1.9 with a type 096/100 from EBaY ABS, Advanced Battery Services. Around £43 delivered. Fitted straight in, fills the battery tray. Just make sure you remember where the wires are routed otherwise the sides are hard to get on. If you have a battery cover.

Hi all,

 

I just had my 2nd service at 49,000 & the dealer has said the 3rd is due in 1 year or 10,000 miles. Is this correct for a CR 2001 vRS? I though it might be longer that's all. I do around 9000 -10000 a year. 

 

I have a service plan from when I bought the car but I just want to check it's correct as I thought it might be 2 years or more miles?
