€35,447 for a metallic Highline 150 Passat

€37,095 for the Supers Style metallic.

€1,500 more for a Superb?

I think the Passat is definitely better value and probably a better seller come change time as well.

I have not checked out the spec on the Highline Passat, but the Style Superb looks to be VERY well equipped, and I wonder how the costs will compare when spec'ed the same.

Sat-Nav alone must add €2k on a Passat?

The Style (as it will be in Ireland which is SE-L equivalent I suppose) is not too bad in terms of pricing compared with the current model or as above maybe even compared to a Passat.  However, as I think I've said before, I still can't see how the extras on the L&K can be justified price-wise looking at either Irish or UK prices! £3.5kstg/€4K is a huge jump for the extras on the L&K - pedal opening on boot, dynamic ride (which is not very effective apparently), upgraded sound, larger alloys and a few small bits and pieces - can't see €4K there.  I know most won't buy this model but it just looks like Skoda are being too greedy.  The SE-Business will surely be the biggest seller in the UK with the Style being a very attractive buy in Ireland  and will make a lot of people think twice before handing over their cash to VW dealer!.

Both the VW and BMW have that. The former being the better one as it also auto operates the handbrake when you stop.

It really is a good thing to have.

So no more handbrake turns with the electronic ones.....

On the spec level is it just my impression that e.g. the L&K is quite a bit more expensive but has lost some now optional features like Panoramic sunroof, Ventilated front seats, electric front seats. Admittedly the new Superb has got some features that were not available before for love or money, but then this is progress and technology drive seen with any manufacturer.

It has lost the Ventilated seats and the Pan Roof, BUT, does retain the Electric Seats, gains Adaptive Cruise & Traffic Jam Assist, Auto Boot (hatch), Dynamic Chassis, Heated Windscreen and Blind Spot Detection.

I'm ok with it :) :)

Blind spot detection, ventilated seats and heated screen are all extra options in the Irish market!

Discovery Pro is over 2k

BUT

It can be added as a pack.

ie.

Buy a highline and add Business Edition

this give LED Headlamps and Discovery pro for €1600

Not bad when you think LED option is over 1k and Discovery pro is over 2k

So for a quick summary, the main visual difference is the lights used:

Bi Xenons / LED DRL’s / LED Indicators (the DRL changes to amber when you indicate!):

These come as std only on the SE L and L&K

BUT if you want the extra 7 LED strips then you need to ADD the SMART LIGHT ASSIST option:

7-new-skoda-superb-front_0_zpsmlljtl9l.j

WITHOUT SMART LIGHT ASSIST:

SUPERB-ESTATE-REVIEW-HEADER.jpg

The S and SE get normal (non projector) halogen headlights and do NOT get the LED DRL / front Indicators:

gallery_6_20_267567.jpg

Whilst we are talking about the lights, they ALL come with LED rear lights and only the L&K comes as std with:

LED exterior light package (LED rear tail lights high, registration plate illumination and boarding spots)

“LED interior light package (LED ambient lighting in 3 colours, front and rear reading lights, footwell lighting, door handle illumination and vanity mirror lighting)"

The ambient lighting can just be made out here (in green)

Hi mandp,

It's my understanding that a button start is only possible with KESSY, so if the spec doesn't have KESSY a key will need to be inserted into the ignintion.

I'm happy to be proved wrong though! :)

Direct from Skoda

KESSY stands for “Keyless Entry, Start and exit SYstem”.

So without KESSY you will need a key to start.

Just to play devil's advocate, my BMW has a key which needs to be inserted into the steering column but then ignition is switched on and off via a button on the dash.

The KESSY push button is in the steering lock / barrel position, without KESSY you use the key as normal.

So a totally different system then.

Yep, can be seen in this clip:

May not seem that different but one benefit you have with this is that you can (effectively) take out the car key after starting the engine and leave the engine running. A non-KESSY Superb could work in this way too, although a standard key ignition wouldn't be that bad either.

  • 4 weeks later...

A superb without Kessy will need a key to enter and start...is all or nothing.

I know the new Fabia has a halfway house Kessy-GO option whereby its still key entry but its keyless start...the Superb wont have this option.

Based on the Kessy system in the Superb II...

With Kessy you can exit the vehicle with the engine running (although it would be unlawful in the UK if it's on a public road), but you cannot lock the vehicle with the engine running.

It's therefore possible for someone to jump in and drive off with the car under those circumstances.
