Rob's Ur Quattro

Looks better Rob, do you know why was the wiring and plumbing so butchered?

No idea. It has been through a lot of owners, and quite a few bodged repairs.

It definitely had an 80s total closure alarm fitted, and there's evidence of a carphone being screwed to the trim. And it has had what looked like an expensive stereo fitted, where they chopped metal to install extra speakers. There are still several mystery wires around the place.

I created a bit of a problem with the sun visors when I fitted the bigger rear view mirror which contains the screen for the reversing camera. So I asked Kohl Rod & Custom Ltd to modify the visors from the GT donor car, reshaping and re-covering them. They did a lovely job. Problem solved.

Reverse, tail and brake lights working.

Rubbish adhesive supplied with my centre brake light, it fell off as soon as the car moved. Need to make up some sort of bracket for it.

Also Kohl re-covered this bit so I screwed it back on.

I also started sorting out some power bits for the remote locking. Got it connected to permanent live and the remote locking works. Well the passenger side does, driver's door does nothing and that's the one I've got all the covers fully fitted on. I bet a wire is disconnected.

Boot unlock also does nothing, need to check that.

Traced the right cables for the immobiliser module, just need to wire it in now.

Chris at Finer Details has coated the wheels in Carpro CQuartz DLUX and CQuartz Finest to give them maximum protection from brake dust and dirt. Pics soon. They feel sooo smooth.

I spent an hour working on some wiring today, mostly for the alarm/immobiliser. Didn't finish it but it's certainly immobilised as it won't start at all now :D
More to do. Central locking half works, of course the door that doesn't is the one I've put the trims back on. And the boot actuator isn't working either.
I did get the reversing camera fully working, which is cool.
And fitted a replacement handbrake light switch. The original one exploded.
I wish I had more time!

It's really starting to look the part Rob :)

Btw, I hope you are OK after hearing about today's news in NZ and the earthquake/Tsunami!

All good here I think. Haven't had chance to check on Rusty yet. A few cupboards and drawers came open but no damage in the house.

A bit of wood fell over on the front bumper of the Mazda and made a small mark.

Trains and Wellington central all closed for engineers' checks.

It woke me up pretty thoroughly. There have been many aftershocks, we've felt about 20 of them.

Sounds stupid, but i havnt really been paying much attention to "the news" lately as my preferred paper's website is after devolving into borderline ragtop full of crap. O when i do read stuff its almost being down played - 7 people died in a london lightrail derailment and it ws on pg27 of the physical version of "my newspaper" and celeb nonstories higher up the listing than it on site. So thee earthquake was almos t reported like a mild tremor.. clearly not!

Most of our local papers/online sites are similar.

We had a 7.5 earthquake, it lasted a while, it killed two people and has caused billions in damage in the South Island. There have been 850+ aftershocks up to 6.6 in magnitude. It's pretty damn freaky.

Now Wellington is getting a month's worth of rain in 12 hours, causing more land slips as the new cracks fill up with water.

But most of us have power and water, damage is generally minimal here in Wellington apart from some office buildings in the city with collapsed floors. But it happened at midnight on Sunday, which is is great, no-one was in the buildings. The only road and rail link on the South island's East coast is gone, and will take years to put back. NZ mostly only has one road to places!

But we're fine, our neighbours are fine, Rusty is undamaged :)

Need to clean up the nasty hard adhesive off the carpet for the boot lid and buy some appropriate glue to stick it on.

Started on fitting the GPS tracker.

Found out why my door won't open from outside any more. The metal lever has snapped! Found a brand new one on Ebay for a very reasonable price.

Garage is flooding a bit. I don't approve of this.

Passenger seat scrubbed. Needs more scrubbing but I ran out of cleaning stuff.

Looks great. Shame I forgot to bolt the seatbelt clip in place, passenger seat has to come back out. It took a lot of jiggling to get in!
