I am not the best guy to advise you on that. I am not a believer in all the extra protection and detailing stuff.

 

The reason why people dont like to have the dealer do the initial prep is because they will just do a generic prep in a short time and there is plenty of apocryphal evidence that they often cause minor damage to the paint surfaces.  A specialist detailer will take more time and apply better products more professionally thus providing better protection without damaging the surfaces. 

 

Best wait for some of the guys on here, who are believers, to advise you further. But definitely dont have the 'special protection' packages done thru the dealer. They are a rip off, you can get similar for much cheaper at your local car valeting company.

Avoid dealer paint protection offers , they simply don't have the time or on site expertise to properly prepare and protect car paintwork.   Check out professional detailing providers within your locality and then try to get some feedback / examples of their work.   Ceramic coating products such as Gtechniq  ( https://gtechniq.com/) come with up to 7 years guarantee and really do make paintwork look amazing whilst providing great protection .  Also removes need to polish regularly and dirt washes off easier too .  All down to personal choice and of course your plans on how long you intend to keep the vehicle and your attitude to vehicle tlc !!

+1.  The products the dealers use can be found on eBay for ~£30.  That gives you an indication of the markup.  It's also worth noting that AG lifeshine has a lot of restrictions and caveats on what AG themselves will cover or rectify should you have issues with both the interior and exterior protection.  Waste of money IMO. 

 

Find a local detailer by reputation and arrange for them to visit the dealership or have the dealer do zero preparation and take the car directly to the detailers.  Another option is to buy some quality products and accessories yourself and hit the various detailing forums to get some help and advice.   Buy a man a fish and you'll feed him for one meal, buy him  £200 of detailing products and he can waste 8 hours on the drive, every weekend

I agree with the above advice - never get the dealer to apply paint protection - get it done somewhere else or do it yourself. I did mine - not as long lasting as some others claim but it only takes 2 hours two a year - I use autofinesse toughcoat - very easy to apply, gives the paint an extra gloss as well as the paint protection.

I thought I read somewhere that you should wait a certain amount of time before you polish a car to let the paint harden. Can't remember how long now, it's probably hardened off by the time you get delivery.

Paint Protection In Australia it is similar, but VW and therefore Skoda on the Gold Coast in Queensland offer paint protection the same as Boeing and Mercedes which is the best i have used after approx. 20 brand new cars.

But each to their own.
