The roomster motorhome

Hi there,

I have recently got a peak van conversion unit for my Skoda. I am looking to order a packashak as I need more space. Did you purchase the 'original' or 'hatch' packashak. The company owner thinks it might be the 'hatch'.

Hope that you can help me decide on which one.

Hi Camper and welcome to Briskoda.  Nice conversion!

Sadly, OP has not visited for 12 months and may not get to see your post.

Try sending him a PM in the hope he picks it up on email.

When you discover which model of Pack-a-Shack fits your Roomster, please consider posting on here for the benefit of others.

Cheers

Hi camper,

looks cool!! I used the hatch but i think it only fits because it is lowered. Therefore would recommend the original though must warn you it wouldn't add much space really.

Min my opinion you want some kind of gazebo/cook tent that you reverse right up to. Khyam do quick erect cook tents that would be ideal I think.

Attached is a picture of my new camping setup

Hi there. Thanks for your reply and advice. It's a hard to find something as easy to use as the packashak. I would like a free standing tent so will look into that.

Omg you have an amdro conversion that looks fab. Mine was based on that idea. I love the Amdro product. Are you in a Berlingo now? How is that to drive compared to the Roomster?

Wishing you happy times camping.

Hi,

I think the Packa Shack "Hatch" is probably too small/low to fit very well. The Original is probably better.

The Amdro Boot Tent also fits (more expensive ~£400 - heavy duty cloth and a window)

The Outdoor Revolution Movelite 2 - 2015 is great if you want more space for a longer stay (add 2 poles for extra main door awning) - Got mine for £300 on the bay.

Now called the Movelite T2 Low (very much the same as 2016 version that needs extra kit for door awning)

The Quechua Base Seconds pop up shelter also works on the side door and is cheapish, quick and small to pack ???

Hi thanks for the awning advice I will keep the other ones in mind. The photos are great, wish I had joined the forum ages ago.

As I was unsure how suitable the packashak hatch would be I purchased one off eBay.  I am yet to go off camping with it but so far so good. I think my only drawback might be no windows and that my tailgate needs to remain up.

This conversion is amazing. Fantastic use of space. I am envious of the sink. The bed also folds away really small. It looks like you have removed your rear seats. Do you have a leisure battery or do you plug in your cool box?

Hi camper,

The "Hatch" looks perfect size so everyone feel free to ignore my previous doubts.

The left rear seat stays in and when folded flat it supports the bed. Middle rear could stay in but I prefer to leave it out unless needed.

I have a leisure battery in the spare wheel well. The fridge could run off the normal battery as it has a low batt prevention cutout setting.

I also have a 20 litre fresh water tank in the well to leave more space in the Galley unit for storing pots and plates and toastie makers .....

Have fun camping

Pete

p.s. Useful addition - I have added a micro switch to open the tailgate from inside (see pic 4 of inside the awning) - it's on the wiper nacelle  - It only works when the doors are unlocked and is a simple waterproof push switch from Maplin wired in parallel with the outer hatch handle switch.

The tailgate switch is genius. I have found setting the alarm whilst in it almost impossible as it can only be done from the drivers seat. I then make an undignified mission impossible clamber to the back seats!

I came up with another option of using the interior door closed but not alarm switch under the radio area. It then enables me to use the boot opening button on my key remote to unlock the boot from the inside. I then tug the rubber interior tailgate loop handle and it opens.

My water storage is an electric kettle 1.6lL with water pump at the top. I purchased when in Thailand and got the electric plug changed for uk. It's fine if I heat it before I set off or if I do a hook up. Definitely will look into getting a leisure battery. I hadn't thought of the spare wheel space.

My system works best with the seats remaining but I loose storage space. :(

I also got made to measure stick on black out blinds for mine. Peakvanconversions.weebly.com

Another girlie thing I got was a reliance fold to go toilet where bags and soluble granules are used. It came from America. It's compact but only one leg folds easily!

Are you aware of the Britstop scheme? Free overnight stays in exchange for a drink or meal at a pub?

Hi camper,

That little kettle is neat. :)

? Never tried the boot unlock switch actually ??

Funny the things you never use.

I lock with the centre console switch and unlock with the key fob - have to try the boot switch on the fob ....

There is just room for a Thetford Qube 365 loo behind the drivers seat - I made a small shelf to bring it up 5-6 inches and it is pretty useable !!!!

I'll try to find some more photos.

Pete

edit: You can see a bit of the Qube in the last photo of the Galley.

I'll have to check out Britstop, Thanks :)

Hi camper,

Battery (100AH) and 20L water tank in situ as they are being fitted ... (with a fuse box) ready for wiring and piping

The 15mm birch ply sub-floor is bolted to the wheel retaining point and fits around the battery and tank to keep them in place.

Galley storage for Waste and Fresh water - 2x12L Reimo canisters and a few plates and pans and odds ...

Roomster-RV-Qube-Galley2.JPG.b45458b39baad517322484420bc98601.JPG

Surprising what fits in the little space ... Plates, box of bits (washing up liquid, can opener, hot sauce, pan scrub, Stanley knife, cutlery, cups ...) wind shield in orange case, frying pan, small towel ...

Pan and small kettle fit in the sink (need to make a bag for the pan)

Toastie Maker (with a neat little case) is a real boon - also heats up chips and fish if you have any left over from the night before's takeaway !

Hi camper,

You could try extendible King Poles or telescopic tent poles - May need 2.5m long ones, 2.2m are cheaper - you would have to measure up the Hatch Shack.

Other sites are available !

http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/equipment/tent-accessories/tent-poles (2.2 and 2.5m)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KDU6B96 2.8m !?!

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=telescopic+tent+poles

If you put a Squash ball on the spike of each pole and extended them into the top corners it may well keep the awning up while you close your tailgate !!! Shack would probably have to be pegged out.

You could also use the same poles to make the door into an awning when needed.

Are  there two fibreglass poles to keep the Shack roof up with the tailgate lifted ? Both from one corner ?

Hi,

Just upgraded the passenger seat in my Roomster RV to a Tiguan fold-flat unit

Fit Tiguan front seat in a Roomster ...

.

This is how it looks with the single bed unit.

20190910_124552.thumb.jpg.c59d3ebd01bae637fc4accb03a6ecbaa.jpg

It allows for a kit bag to be available easily when needed.

20190910_125329.thumb.jpg.8447080b7a6e1ca8144dffba3ff1e790.jpg

No need for the support strap now - Simply rests on the seat back (don't need the centre armrest either, but I like it anyway :) .
