"Daddy " Phantom....

nope..... car ran perfectly all weekend over 145miles..... *sigh..... whatever it is can obviously reverse itself...... (was a great drive though! really pushed the car with its new suspension and brakes, felt great!)

dropped it back off at my mechs today to get the braided hoses, and racing fluid in.... he says he knows a computer wizzard with a RR who does custom mapping, so its going there for some live logging, and "on the move" diagnostics, so it can get hot and try to find the issue.......

don't trust it to get us to Germany...... we are are thinking of trading in the Eunos and the Abarth for an brera 3.2V6 Q4 ! lol...... although being an Alfa that might set on fire if it goes more than 100 miles!

I'll update when I know more...

got the car back. nothing has changed. fed up now, we are selling the Abarth and the mx5 to make way for another car we can use, as this can no longer be relied upon. I cannot sell this, as I have ploughed thousands into it, and the exhaust alone is worth more than I could sell the car for :( so, all I can do for now is go to work in it. Maybe keep throwing parts at it, hoping I hit the nail on the head by accident.... next new parts are , genuine wiring loom for coil packs and oil level sensor, I need a bloody specialist for this, as it requires plugging into the ecu. i will update when the computer wizz has had a look at the car.

depressing times... brakes are bloody awesome now though.

Next pile of parts to throw at the old boy.... was deciding to head to R-tech for a health check, see if they could find the issue... they wanted the fuel pump replacing though, (It is the original, and its done 181k) so : new fuel pump, APS 265 LPH Uprated High Flow  capable of supporting up to 500bhp (I am always going to "upgrade" when replacing parts, future proofing it!) Also on tech and tuner recommendations, i am replacing the knock sensors too, and I have a one way valve for the breather system too .... all going on today, then I will take it for another long run and see the results... keeping my fingers crossed.... when I posted in the mk1 octy vrs facebook group, someone else piped up and said "thats the fuel pump I have put on mine, and it fixed a whole lot of issues.." Here's hoping!!!! I will report back when I have had a chance to run it....

If it still has the same issue, I will hopefully be able to book in at r-tech for a "health check" see if I can find whats wrong...

cool.... got my car back.... new fuel pump in, they didn't do the knock sensors though, said they would have to remove the inlet manifold to do the front, and couldn't get to the back one at all! :o some other issue too.... well with the fuel pump we will see if its fixed, if not, its off to R-tech.

well we made it to Tamworth and back, many hundreds of miles, 7 hours total driving, and all is well with Daddy Phantom! :o I am going to tentatively say its fixed..... only a tiny hesitation on slight throttle once on the way there, and once on the way back.... no drop off of performance noted, all ran smoothly and properly.... I will still be fitting some of the new bits I have like the wiring loom, as the old one is obviously past its prime.... hopefully it is now sorted for the coming year, and the next ring trip! If I can save a bit of money, maybe add a RARB before then too :) Happy bunny today to be shown reliability! wish I had bitten the bullet and shelled out for a new fuel pump earlier...

Excellent thread @sharkrider Good hours read this morning!

The only thing I’d pick up on is where you mention the previous owner used Jubilee Clips, I’d always prefer Constant Torque Clips for Hose connections, they don’t suffer the localised compression that you often get on Jubilee’s that can often lead to small leaks.

The car spent a week under the snow and ice (not moving it in those conditions with track tyres on!) and He happily started up , first turn of the key and ran perfect :) here's hoping he will be fit for the ring this year! could probably do with a bit of a wash though lol..

right, I have to have an operation in May, and wont be able to drive for a while, so handing Daddy phantom over to my tame mech for nurburgring prep...

1: Oil and filter change

2: Fit Rear anti roll bar

3: treat and fit replacement power steering pipe... (Old one is rusting and swelling on a bend.... can see it giving way soon... precautionary change)

4: check condition of cam belt and drive belt (Should be good were done 3-4 years ago, and 35k ago.... with metal water pump)

5: check wheel bearings are good (I have a rumbling noise, but I'm 99% sure its the track tyres.. but don't want to take a risk ;) )

6: recharge air-con... was cold when I bought the car 3 years ago... bit weak now....

7: get autoelectrician in to fit coil pack wiring loom....

things I will do myself:

1: fit new breather system valves and catch can.

2: possibly wash it...... lol

roll on september!

hmmm, this looks interesting! should make the handling MUCH more fun :)

IMG_2419.jpg

set to the hardest setting of course ;) bring on the trail braking!

IMG_2421.jpg

everyone is happy the octy is back! whole family in, and Oscar is even dusting the dashboard for me!

IMG_2435.jpg

only things I didn't get done are the wiring loom, auto electrician is still unavailable, gonna have to find another .... finding someone I trust is the issue! Aircon not regassed, need to find another place.... shouldn't be too hard :)

next things, to fit the oil catch can, and give it a wash! (and regas the aircon!)
