Awesome thread, I've changed all my rear shocks, springs, top mounts, discs, pads and rear caliper, standard and it handles better, last changed 3 years ago, I'm thinking of doing the front end too and changing the gearbox oil, just found out it's the one with the splines, so part to order, I've had my vrs for 4 years. Keep up the good work and attention to detail.

Nice job :)

Bilt Hamber Deox-C is awesome for rust removal, the powder which you mix with water to leave smaller parts soak in it and the gel for larger parts which won't drop in a container.

Ref the bush tubes, you can buy stainless steel tube and then just cut it down to the length you need, will not rust again then ;)

Fixing some little nags.

So went and picked some parts up from a local lad who was breaking some VRS's and grabbed a few items.

Glow Plug Change.

Typical gets to spring and one of the glow plugs decides to die :)

So the EML pops up!

33817444015_2619f470aa_b.jpgIMG_1395.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Code is Cylinder 4 glowplug failed.

So i nipped to ECP and picked up 4 new Bosch ones, no point in just changing one!

33817393115_52325623d4_b.jpgIMG_1377.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

So first pry the harness off the plugs.

Choose your favorite 10mm Deep socket.

Lucky for me these wernt original, so they came out with ease.

33817395765_2582dcbb5d_b.jpgIMG_1380.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

They where Lucas LP043 plugs, not original from the factory.

33817413945_d3ec691d9f_b.jpgIMG_1390.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Re-installation is as simple, just dab of cooper grease on the threads and scew in and tighten to 15nm

33817407785_57058675c5_b.jpgIMG_1389.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

All 4 installed to spec.

33817419855_17cd7a986a_b.jpgIMG_1391.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Reinstalled the harness then set about cleaning some of the oily mess that had accumulated over the years.

Used some 151 Elbow Grease degreaser from the trust pound shop, works a treat! Quick blast with the jetwash and a wipe over with some AF Revive.

33817454355_57222612ef_b.jpgIMG_1398.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Then used the Torque app to clear the code!

All Sorted

Bit of good luck that the glow plugs had been out before, I've snapped a couple in the past that had been in from new, ball ache time then!

I was expecting a fight, was very surprised when 3 of them undid with little effort. The number 2 plug how ever came out screaming and tight all the way till the end. Was a touching cloth moment! Nightmare when they break off, glad I've not had one happen to me!

So got the old girl back from the body shop, the work is pretty much flawless apart from drivers side rear quarter which has more orange peal than a orange. Spoke to the lad and its going to go back and get some wet sanding to sort it out.

So gave it was and a polish and here are the finished results. I'm well chuffed.

Ill let the pictures do the talking!

Rear Brakes,

Well the old girl had been suffering with sticking rear brakes, i took the calipers off and tried to free them up but they where just to rusty internally to save. The rebuild kits come in around 75% of the cost of a new caliper so no brainier to get new ones!.

The drivers side rear wheel bearing was making a right old racket as well, so changed the lot.

You can see where the calipers have been sticking, and boy it had been giving my mpg a good kicking!

It was well nackard, the side to side play in the bearing was amazing. Not bad for 128k as its original!

Got her bled up with the ezi-bleed and was all sorted.

Went for a test drive and all was sorted, could not believe how loud that old bearing was. Must of been bad for a while!

Decent progress being made, there's a seller on eBay selling 250ml of the right colour paint if that helps? He does loads of different caliper colours.

great work as always @kellaway86 I'm in the process of picking up all the bits for a complete over haul of the suspension, poly bushes, bearings and brakes not cheap by any means

Really enjoyed following this thread. Out of interest, how much did the body work cost to have the rust issues sorted?

Mine has just started to bubble up and it's annoying me badly. My cars only on 88k and want to keep it for as long as possible! Everything else is mint

Well guys, bit of a update.

Cars been flawless been serviced again and had another years ticket in January put on.

I'm unfortunately having to put the Fabia up for sale. New house and new child and the Fabia is not big enough for me any more.

I'm going to be posting up and for sale ad next day or two.

I'm not wondering two far from a VRS tho....

Just a small upgrade to the fabia's bigger brother!

Picking up a 2015 Mk3 Octavia Estate VRS 184 TDI with 42k on the clock on Thursday.  Going to be a hell of a change from the little fab for sure!
