What bulbs are fitted to the S3 & upgraded bulb recommendations

Recommended Posts

Feel free to add your own upgraded bulbs for the S3 (ideally with links and photo’s showing before and after)

Front Fog lights

H8 35W (OE are Osram)

I upgraded mine to 4,500K ( K = Kelvin colour temperature, OE Xenon’s headlights are between 4,300K - 4,500K)

4,500K halogen on left OE std halogen on right:

A much better colour and very close to the DRL’s, however they were pretty crap with regards to the light they emitted and were barely noticeable when they were turned on.

So I changed them for some LED’s http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/7338546343.html?orderId=72923300641797 now it is worth noting these do not dim on or off like halogens do, they are a straight on/off, despite this they are IMO brilliant!:

I have previously tried some CREE LED’s in our Yeti (again H8 fitment) but despite these being advertised as ‘pure white’ were too blue for my liking so they never made it into the S3 (if you like them then I still have them!)

CREE on the left and a 4,500K halogen on the right:

THE OE FOG LIGHT BULBS ARE THE IDEAL COLOUR FOR USE IN THE FOG, IF YOU DECIDE TO GO WHITER LIKE I HAVE THEN YOU WILL LOSE THE PERFORMANCE IN THE FOG - as they are now used as CH/LH and cornering lights this is something I was prepared to sacrifice.

Did the LED headlights throw any bulb out lights / canbus issues?

No,

I should have said in the relevant posts but all of the bulbs were fitted without any error codes / warning lights and no coding or add on resistors were needed... they are all plug and play.

The reversing lights in the Yeti do flash very quickly a few times (not at full brightness though) when you turn the ignition on whilst the CANBUS does it’s ‘bulb out check’

On the Superb they do not flash

Boot lights

(no std photo)

Fitted with W5W LED’s from eBay (the flat 4x LED ones in the middle)

Now whilst these were a big improvement over std they were not as good as they could be, so I bit the bullet and bought the superskoda complete units:

These are MUCH better!

Anyone knows why i don't have these lights in my trunk? :o

S3, L&K, Combi, full spec except sunroof.

Superskoda says the lamps they sell 'fits all', but what the....!? [emoji1]

That is for the combi. Pictures shows it's not the same as my trunk :/

The listing is indeed for the combi, but all of the pictures are from the limousine/hatchback. Superskoda say:

Hi.

Contemplating replacing the internal door lights with some of these from Superskoda, http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/SUPERB-III/Superb-III-MEGA-POWER-LED-door-safety-lights-WHITE-WHITE-KI-R

I haven't collected my new Superb yet, delivery set for Saturday 9th April. Can anyone tell me if these fit both the front and rear doors ? I've asked the same question of Super Skoda but haven't received a reply yet...

Also, do you have to remove the whole rear light unit to replace the OEM bulbs with the replacement indicator/reversing lamps recommended above?

TIA.

Yes you do remove the rear lamp assembly (the section on the car body not the tailgate) but it is an easy to do 10 minute job to replace the 2 lamps. A bit fiddly but nothing beyond anyone with a smidgeon of practicality. There is a section in the manual that shows you how to remove the assembly and replace the lamps. Pop out the OEM ones and pop in the LED replacements. Simples!

Cant help with the door lights as I haven't done that mod.

Here's a screenshot.

I just spotted this... Check out 1:10 on this video:https://youtu.be/s5MD4mNQzFs

Maybe certain countries don't get the silver caps on reversing and rear indicator lights?

See this thread - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/380118-tail-lights-boot-section/page-3?hl=%2Btailgate+%2Bled#entry4458914

Already been covered.

Thanks

Yes, they are bright. Noticed that the other night myself. The ground behind the car was well light.
