Back window white original glue stains

Recommended Posts

Is there any magical 'secret way' of eliminating them without replacing the glass does anyone know?

I'm loathed to do that as it is marked with the original 'Skoda' name on it and what to keep the car as original as possible.

I wait for negative response in not so great anticipation.

No easy fix that I know of.

However a couple of folks (Coskev and Lofty) have just had new lightly tinted SE rear screens fitted to cure this.

Cost them about £150 afaik

Coskev and Lofty will be here soon hopefully.

Spoils the arse end of the car imo.

Looks so tatty

Anyone ever managed to get a glass specialist to get the glass out and scrape off the old glue without it actually shattering it I wonder?

It's not glue residue. It's where the black coating applied to the glass that hides the glue underneath it delaminates from the glass itself.

All underneath the glass so apart from replacing the glass, nothing you can do. I've just done mine.

looks 100% better now

Well worth doing as the rest of the car is perfect.

Will it eventually go the same though?

As asked up there ^^. Is it possible to take the glass out without breaking it, and then repairing?

Yes it will possibly go the same but will take possibly 10 years.

If you read my post it is something that can't be repaired on the original glass as you can't sort the delamination out, it'll be impossible to repair just replace if it offends you.

Ah so that's what it is, I just assumed the glass had been replaced at some point by someone who didn't do a very good job of it. It does look awful

My car had 'Oh no, another great Skoda' on the rear window, which I hated so I took it off. But whenever the window gets misted up you can still see the outline of the letters :D

Very cheap, tinted as well!

Only standard tint, not sunset SE tint ;)

You want 6Y6845049L for SE tint :)
