MKV Golf GTi - anyone had one?

I'm currently on a new (to me) car hunt - I was considering an S1 but I'm not sure a 230PS 4WD supermini is really necessary for trips to Sainsbury's (my mileage is only going to be 3,000-odd per year so it's hard to justify shelling out £20k for a used one).

Although no car is without its issues the MKV Golf does seem pretty robust and I do like the Edition 30 (the standard one is a no-no as I'm not a fan of the Monza alloys or black rear bumper - although both of those can be rectified I'm very much into keeping cars standard). The appeal is depreciation has pretty much been and gone and I could get it serviced by my local and trusted VAG specialist - no need to take a shafting from a dealer every service and have to listen to their 'upselling' bull (Henry's Skoda would have you replace discs and pads every service if they could get away with it...).

Anyway, the downside is trying to find an unmolested example although there appears to be one (also low-mileage) for sale in West Lothian which isn't too far from me (I live in Glasgow). I don't know enough about cars (Briskoda is my university ;) ) to check it out myself (it's a private sale) so possibly thinking of an RAC or AA check (although they're not cheap).

Anyone got any experience of these?

Are you looking at ones with an asking price higher than £8,500.?

I see one for sale in the Perth Area & one in Arbroath but with a Kent phone number(Marine from Condor maybe)

72-73,500 miles at the lower asking prices.

Brian,

I noticed across Audi dealership in UK ,that there are a few S1's 3dr and Sportback around  2/3 years old with less than 30000miles for around the £17k or lower with a bit of negotiating. Then perhaps you ought to break the 3000miles / annum and have some more driving fun !! lol.

The member "Bonelorrys" on here has one & he seems to change his cars every few months  :D if i was to buy a car privately it would be from him as his cars are clearly looked after,i doubt he is selling it but have a look at it in the non skoda project section, its one of the best examples ive seen. If you buy one & need a haynes manual then let me know as i have one for sale.  :D

I've put down a deposit on a MKV at a VW dealer in Ipswich - full VW service history (at supplying dealer) and the last owner had it since 2009 (he was the second owner).

Brian,

When do you see it in the flesh and do the deal, provided that all meets with your approval. Nice drive home for you I hope.

Motor looks in very good condition, in online photos.

I'm flying back from Valencia to Stansted on Monday - I'm going to get a hotel in Ipswich for Monday night and hopefully pick up the car on Tuesday (10.00am appointment). It certainly looks a very well looked after car.
