Service due.. under extended warranty .

As the title suggests, my Fabia vRS is now due a service (a nice little reminder comes up on the dash every time i start her up!) my question is.. with me having the extended warranty i bought from skoda, do i need to have the services done there? Every service stamp before my ownership is from a stealer.. is it worth keeping it this way?

Also ive recently replaced the spark plugs myself so this wouldn't need doing but whats the difference between minor and major services?

thanks muchly..

For the extended warranty to stay valid you have to have the car Serviced as Service Schedule / Guidelines.

You might as well pay a Skoda Main Dealer £139 for a minor service if that is what they want,

But say you want 5w 40 FS VW502 00 oil & not 5W 30 VW504 00 FS Long Life oil.  (& they can do that if you want.)

Tell them your spark plugs are changed and not to do.

If you have checked and changed your Air Filter & Pollen filter tell them not to change.

If you topped up your Washer Fluid tell them not to top up.

You should easily get that service for £139. or even less.  Ask, if the Service Desk staff say the Computer does not allow that, Ask why.

?

How many miles has your car done and what services has it had.

@ 3 years Brake Fluid should have been changed. £55 or so.

Might need a Fuel Filter at some point, but they are supposed to be for life.

PS

Maybe check out the local VW Dealership even if the same Dealership Group. Maybe an offer on.

That is where you might get the best Price and if they say they can not do a Skoda Twincharger ask why not,

The service is the same as on a VW Polo GTI 1.4 TSI Twincharger, same intervals as well.

Same components other than the VW has the battery in the boot.

Cheers George,

2011 CAVE Just over 47k, last service was at 42k (i think) i would imagine the brake fluid has already been done. It seems like a lot of money for not a lot of graft what they charge.. i could do it all in under an hour!

They do it in under an hour including the wash and vacuum.

Keys collected from Service Desk & car driven on test drive or not maybe just into the workshop.

But then how much does a bike shop charge to change a tube, £9 for 10 minutes or so, or a shoe repairer to put on a new heel, 5 minutes.

What is the call out charge for a Plumber or an Electrician.

You pay or you DIY that is the choice you get.

Right.. been in today to book my service. I asked for them to put 5-w40 oil in instead of the normal oil.. one of the mechanics was getting a coffee and overheard me asking about it.. that led to a discussion about the VRS and oil consumption. The mech recommended using the standard oil against my request, he said due to the issues with the oil consumption it wouldn't look good on the service record if i had requested a different oil to the recommended should anything go wrong.

I also said the spark plugs had been changed and they said they wouldn't be changing them anyway as its only done every 4 years

They are gonna relieve me of £269 for the service

Surely you are not paying them that.

it was Minor service in 2012,

Major 2013 (pollen Filter)

Minor 2014 Brake fluid should have been changed  First MOT  EDIT

Major 2015 Maybe Pollen Filter. Maybe Air filter

Minor 2016.

*& you have the spark plugs changed so not being done.*

Major 2017 & what are they doing, same as a Minor Service & maybe a Pollen Filter (£16),

No spark plugs & maybe an Air Filter (£16 or so)

BRAKE FLUID IS DUE TO BE CHANGED 2 years after first change.

Rip off to say the least.

Something else.

?

When was the last service & oil change, because if the recommended Oil as the Technician wants to use was put in last time, ie 5w 30 FS Long Life VW504 00

Then it does not require a Oil & Filter change until 18,500 miles / 2 years.

(But if not changed last time and set at fixed service they say that does not apply, it does though.)

So no service due.

(& you could change or have the Oil & Filter changed yourself. But i take it you consider that too risky.)

EDIT Posts crossed.

Do not pay £269 if they are calling it a Major / Inspection Service but only providing Oil / Filter & Sump Plug.

im gonna go to a skoda specialist tomorrow (in the hope of keeping the skoda stamp) to see what they say. potentially all i really require (at most) is an oil change. im guessing with regards to the skoda warranty they will be happy as long as OEM parts are used?

Im pretty confident i could manage an oil change myself but worried about keeping up the warranty ive paid for.

Spoke to the warranty customer services today and asked about servicing away from a skoda garage and they confirmed as long as OEM parts are used, the book is stamped an i have an invoice for the parts all is well. gonna get parts from TPS and get a friend to do the service. This should save me about £200! I also emailed and asked them to provide history of my car and a list of what the expect to be replaced as part of this service schedule. No response as of yet.

  • 1 month later...

I bought a s/h 2014 Fabia 1.6 tdi privately with 72k on the clock with a 5yr/100k warranty,I asked the local dealership if my warranty would still be supported by non skoda servicing & was told that as long as it was a vat reg garage it would be fine.& just had a sticking seat belt & misted up rear light cluster replaced under warranty
