Running in Spaceback

Recommended Posts

Hi, from Kota.

Will be taking delivery of new 1.2 110 SE Tech Spaceback in few weeks. Apart from obvious not over reving would appreciate advice/experiences of others, how long to "run in" etc, and realistically, how ok to do 60-70 on motorway etc.

All modern engines take very little running in tbh , be a little gentle whilst cold , use the warm engine freely , don't hammer it and don't labour the engine.

Perfectly fine doing motorway speeds.

By "Labour" I mean don't be in too high of a gear at low revs.

We picked up our Spaceback 1.2 110ps SE Tech a few days ago. (Photos here .) Hope you like it as much as we do - I think this is a very under-rated car!

The 1.2 110ps engine is a sweet unit and the gearing is quite high.  60mph in 6th gear is at only 2000rpm, so legal motorway speeds are no problem even from day 1.  (And this is from someone who, for the last 40 years, has always been very cautious about the running in period for a new engine.)  Obviously don't over-rev it, but you won't need to.  As LeeMc says, the more important requirement is not to labour the engine.  If in doubt, change to a lower gear.
