TSi Engine identification - chain or belt

Spacebacker

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Newbie here. I am considering Fabia Estates and Rapid Spacebacks around 2013 and 2014 with the 1.2TSi engines.

Having done research on this site, reading numerous threads about camchains and failures I thought I was now informed in my choices.

However, some certain things have now confused me. Looking at a 2013 Fabia 85bhp 1.2 TSi manufactured in Q1 2013 I thought it would be fitted with the CZA SOHC chain engine. I asked the dealer and he said it has a cambelt.

Can someone please point me in the direction of a site which allows be to check the build details by chassis number or a table of engine type by date? Assuming the dealer is right, references such as Wikipedia are wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Welcome.

What kind of Dealers was it a drug dealer in the Dealership.

What was there position in the business and their qualifications because they were wrong on a 1.2 TSI Fabia 2013.

(Check out the earlier issues with Euro 5 Emissions 1.2 TSI Chain Tensioners.)

Sorry can not help on a site to check the engine codes, someone will be along,

& maybe worth looking into the Mk2 Fabia section and the Rapid Section.

For further info.

I've been reading threads like this one:

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/252849-12-tsi-timing-chain-recall/

This info is from Wikipedia (the dealer's info. is contrary to this, obviously).

1.2 TSI 63 kW 2010–2014 CBZA (EA111) 1197 ccm, I4, 8V, OHC, TSI, turbocharged 63 kW(86 PS; 85 hp) at 4800 rpm
1.2 TSI 77 kW 2010–2014 CBZB (EA111) 1197 ccm, I4, 8V, OHC, TSI, turbocharged 77 kW (105 PS; 103 hp) at 5000 rpm

I suspected it was a Main Dealership, but was it a Salesperson, Service Desk Employee or a Trained & Qualified Technician that knows their Ar53 from their elbow?

There you go, next week they could be selling life insurance, phones or microwaves and not know their product.

Welcome to the world of Skoda & VW Group main dealers and car ownership.

In God you trust, in anyone in a car dealership you need to double check their info.

Is the Wikipedia info correct then?

Does anyone have chassis number cut ins for the CJZ on the Rapid please?

I'm now back to assuming they're Mk3 only on the Fabia.

Also, all this in the knowledge that if the recall work was completed the timing chain engines should be OK.

Sorry i can not help, 1.4 TSI Twinchargers are my specialist subject.

As to 'Recalls', there are no Recalls or Recall Actions / Service Campaigns on the Chains, so it each man / women fighting for Warranty Work.

People are having failures still with the engines that had the faulty parts and VW took no actions.

The Mk3 Fabia is a different matter, they are Euro 6 1.2 TSI Engines.

The owners in the different sections can help you best.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sounds like MB C180 & 200 Kompressor (M271 - the Nissan motor) with single row cam-chains as far as warranty claims go... :(

Cheers,

Graham
