New Top Gear with Matt (Part Deux)

I think Rory is the 'everyman' element of the show. Also a bit of 'yoof' appeal.

They're all better in cars and apart from Matt seem to struggle in the studio sections.

Last nights episode I thought was a disappointment, ended up watching bits, really enjoyed the McLaren slot but that was about all I enjoyed.

I do like Chris Harris, he knows his cars and knows how to drive them.

Hopefully the series will pick up

a bit.

Not a good news day.

The best thing to happen to Top Gear is over / he is leaving.

Please not Jodie Kidd.

She appeared last night on ITV 4's  IOM TT Preview programme.  WTF?

It's a shame he was good and getting better.

They needed a steady lineup for 3yr to settle the new show.

New guy needs to be a linchpin again and needs to be more comfortable in front of the cameras than the others since he/she will be carrying them.

I care not if it's man woman or beast as long as it works.

From that list I could see Robb Brydon, or Philip Glenister , more the latter.

Lots of others I could see as supporting people but not in the 'leader' role. Worked with Matt because he was a big personality, comfortable in front of the cameras and a genuine petrol head.

If it was a niche 'car show' then lots of people could slot in there giving dry facts. But Top Gear is an entertainment  show based around cars.

So it needs an entertainer at the helm and someone who can banter off the cuff.

Ross Noble. He's maybe a bit random.

Bizarrely I think you do need someone like Chris Evans who can hold a show together. But not Chris Evans.

Could well be another Yank to keep the $ rolling in.

Havnt looked at list, but if Steve Coogan was interested, it would tempt me back.

I havent watched any Chris Evans TG and 10mins of one MLB episode.

I just couldnt gel with it.

Likewise i havnt watched The Grand Tour, as in my head its a cheat :(

Ooo Rowan could be good, but.. it would depend on which Rowan was there week to week.

Mr Bean, Johnny English or Captain Black Adder... get Dr House on board with him and it could be fantastic!

Ken Block, remember where you read it first!

Just sayin'!

That's probably a good bet.  Wouldn't work for me.

There's a few former 5th Gear presenters looking for work.  Any of them could and did do a better job than any of the current or former TG presenters.

Failing to commission another 5th Gear when TG was going through Clarksongate and then the reboot, was a big mistake IMO.

Someone with a bit of personality and skill behind the wheel would be a good match with Chris Harris.

Tiff needell or VBH would be good with Harris, I think the racing challenges could be fun with these 3.

I don't think any of them could hold the show together...

Jay Leno would be excellent if a bit old and expensive.

Jason Plato

Tim Allen

Rupert Grint

Idris Elba

Tim Allen is free since his tv show got taken off air.

Top gear with Tim the car man Allen and his sidekick Al.

Chris Barrie is into cars and mechanical things, so that’s another choice that could work.

I'm not sure I could see Rimmer leading the show.

I could have seen him more in Rory's shoes tbh.

But maybe...

Perhaps this is a good time for the BBC to scrap Top Gear. The programme started in the 70's as a  regional  motoring 'magazine'. The BBC scraped it before Clarkson re invented it into its current format. Alternatively seeing that Clarkson has taken on 'who wants to be a millionaire' how about Chris Tarrant hosting Top Gear? Episode 1 how to lose your licence.

I doubt it. It's a cash cow for the BBC. £40-60M a year.
