With the 'parts ready to fit to the Octavia' pile getting bigger in the garage I decided it was about time to start fitting them to the carP1040019.1.jpg.e6a6b8739f5fc94bb99e7fe92e44efbc.jpg

First off was the footwell lighting so I sorted out the loom and taped it up

P1040020.1.jpg.936e6423a60276dd89c5a8517ec0066b.jpg

Then it was out with the glovebox and drivers side lower dash to help feeding the looms through. Plus I wanted to retrieve the Bluetooth box from behind the glovebox and fit in its correct position under the passenger seat

P1040021.1.jpg.4edfb6ca60231f5ad56d20cac8393a3b.jpg

Seats were lifted up to help with the rear footwell lights going in. I think the previous owner must have had a party in the car as I keep finding little coloured stars everywhere

P1040022.1.jpg.f4404c1dca00337c3b272984bbe34a78.jpg

Also took the opportunity to remove this

P1040024.1.jpg.3818800ae9ae480882d595b0f8b7c6ca.jpg

and this

P1040025.1.jpg.36b633f050ff97389dda5cf8eda84d51.jpg

to replace with this

P1040030.1.jpg.a236cbfc8fc545921ec0266da1e1a1af.jpg

Got it all back together after hovering out all of the stars and finished up with

P1040026.1.jpg.b571d62b5c6c4477dcbfa24f1a3b44f2.jpg

P1040031.1.jpg.43c0bcd08614a0af435fa6fd63c85d7f.jpg

I also had a set of door mirrors with puddle lights & electric folding to fit. Passenger was a case of just swapping over but the drivers had been smashed so I used the parts to build my original to the uprated spec. Forgot to take pics of the during but they are on with the lights working

P1040036.1.jpg.590874b98439734d29f992bb9fdf11d8.jpg

And with the correct switch fitted

P1040035.1.jpg.2809eabe49542b81a7501e53fe9abdfd.jpg

Sadly my door controllers are not the right spec to support the folding function but this should be sorted when the postman arrives today.

I fitted my mud flaps

P1040028.1.jpg.682c2401bdad3b814a99deacd99020f6.jpg

And after the chrome had stared to peel off of the gearknob insert I gave it a quick paint as a temporary measure until I get around to ordering a new one. Turned out OK so I may keep it like this if the paint lasts

Looking good!

Have you got a pic of the front passenger footwell light fitted and was the puddle lights plug and play?

Thanks. Here's the pic of the passenger footwell

P1040040.JPG.4ac94f1f7163498cb4bf755c377fc1c1.JPG

bar a bit of coding with VCDS they are pretty much plug and play. More details can be found in this thread

Postman delivered as promised this afternoon and I got a pair of complete front window regulators.

P1040041.JPG.10e3777969f97ab60e4b50df96efe2c0.JPG

I was only interested in these parts though

P1040043.JPG.967597d23395d9133a3cff9c0139b847.JPG

It actually worked out cheaper buying the whole lot than getting just the modules. Got them swapped over and I am pleased to say the mirrors now fold on the switch and with a long press of the locking button.

And here's the mirrors in action  Ignore the flies and bird poop, I'll wash it tomorrow

Not much to update as I have been concentrating my efforts on my other project (series 2 RS Turbo) but have still been doing a few bits to the VRS.

Decided not to go with the Mk3 steering wheel as it meant sourcing a new airbag plus switches as well as the controller so sold it on and bought a Multi-function wheel from a Mk2 FL. As these are only fitted to the DSG cars in the UK it came with paddles so needed sorting to go in my manual car.

Paddles were removed (one of them it stripped down here)

P1040062.JPG.b9e26db474a8813f2fc5deb86d614f6f.JPG

A bit of trimming needed of the fittings

P1040063.JPG.86845985184d43916dc2649f56b80dbf.JPG

Then they were filled

P1040064.JPG.c2c405c25469be636984f06b3ebc43d8.JPG

Smoothed and painted

P1040070.JPG.a82c9fed6a158762420db6f386f4a3e1.JPG

And fitted back to the wheel

P1040071.JPG.d57081a983dffec35da6d42e8a73e976.JPGP1040072.JPG.b9958bcfb0ca18ee18138803bfef8545.JPG

I was thinking of getting some perforated leather of carbon vinyl and covering them but I think they look ok painted.

Under the bonnet I never liked the look of the flimsy battery cover, plus it never seemed to fit right

P1040089.JPG.71876b195a3bcab38619d77ebc4de7e7.JPG

So I bought this on e-bay, brand new from china for about 12 quid delivered

P1040090.JPG.06ccea6e1fb6690cd3bc88bc8d26a3cd.JPG

And fitted it

P1040091.JPG.0b5765a44ad59b3922b7be6f0c2ae135.JPG

Looks a lot better now

Next up hopefully is a colour coded grill surround and getting my Maxidot cluster fitted

Finally had a bit of spare time today so I took the opportunity to fit the MFSW and as everyone likes pics, here it is!

Just need to source a new set of control stalks so I can loose the trip buttons on the right hand side

Latest 'upgrade' I have made to the car is more of a preventative one. When I replaced the condenser for the air con I noticed it was pretty battered at the bottom due to the fairly open grill on the VRS bumper. A bit of research threw up a couple of solutions to help with the problem so...

The bumper was removed

P1040111.JPG.b1538626c5626cf929eab052ae43a935.JPG

Condenser already showing some debris after a couple of months

P1040114.JPG.99e2da698ea32d8d77ee68ca3504b28c.JPG

Lower grill was removed from the bumper so I could attach the mesh which was the solution I decided to go for. The mesh itself was a couple of quid delivered from ebay.

P1040113.JPG.2c7208d9577bfcc9fe5e29d6542c6db0.JPG

And a close up

P1040112.JPG.14c35cfc640d5ccb4e2b11b625932e93.JPG

Fitting was as the Haynes manual says simply the reverse of removal :D Once back on the car the lower grill looks a little darker then normal, otherwise you can hardly tell the mesh is fitted

Time for an update on the Octavia...

Due to the pretty rubbish weather we have been having recently I haven't really done much to the car apart from driving it and getting it really filthy (no pics as I am too embarrassed to display my laziness on this forum) Anyway before Xmas I noticed the temp gauge dropping when sat in traffic or when the heaters were on full. Looked like the thermostat was starting to get a bit tired in its operation. As it was coming up to it's next cambelt change (due at next service) I decided to get it all done in one go. Normally I would do something like this myself but as it's winter and cold and wet and generally horrible I booked it into my mates new garage to have the work done. Just before it was due to go in I noticed a rattling coming from the front suspension when going over bumps, a quick check revealed a broken drivers side spring so both fronts were dully replaced as well.

Anyway enough rambling... One thing that annoyed me with the car was the rattling of the passenger seatbelt on the B pillar when that belt wasn't being used. Boredom browsing on Aliexpress through up these rubber covers for the buckles. At £4.10 delivered I took a gamble and ordered them, delivery from China took just over a week.

P1040151.JPG.3fe29ab5e3d06ee463f5ce120bf36b06.JPG

Got them fitted

P1040152.JPG.247fac79e0ae68fd0d856495a444cb58.JPG

And despite a bit of resistance when pulling the seatbelt on they work really well in pretty much killing the sound of the buckle rattling against the B pillar.

Just waiting for a bit of dry weather so I can hoover out the car and fit my new mats and for my door pocket inserts (another Aliexpress purchase) to be delivered from China

Made the most of the dry day and hovered the car out so I could fit my new mats. Excuse the rest of the marks and muck, a full valet will be done once the weather gets a bit warmer

Before

And after

Passenger front

Rear

P1040156.JPG.84b119cab674bf25d3e0c3ee1d921abc.JPG

Once out the wear to the drivers mat was a lot more noticeable. Shame really as the other 3 are pretty much like brand new.

P1040159.JPG.bd3df98226fdd834b03d2fd3d6fbfc49.JPG

Suddenly remembered that I had made a couple of other additions that I hadn't recorded on here . 1st my dash cam. It's a cheap one from ebay but it fits nicely behind the mirror and the picture quality is OK. Currently it is powered from the 12v socket in the centre console, another warmer weather job is to hard wire it to the fuse box.

P1040160.JPG.4140ff244541217b582bfc21024a820e.JPG

2nd addition is my phone holder

It's a magnetic type and comes with a stick on 'plate' for the back of my phone. Been using it for 3 months or so with no problems to report so far.

Some nice changes here, out of interest what can easily be turned on via VCDS that isn't standard? Had my car a short while and have had MPH turned on as a full display on the maxidot but didn't know it was capable of other things?

If you have maxidot then you will probably be able to turn on a few of the options but using VCDS I have enabled (from what I can remember)

Alarm beeps on lock / unlock

Anti-hijack door locks

rain closing for windows (requires the rain sensor for auto wipers)

cornering & reversing front fog light illumination

coming / leaving home lights via front fog lights

tear drop wipe on front & rear wipers

Interesting! Bought the car mid November, the alarm beep on door lock and unlock is already on and so is the anti-hijack door locks.

Not sure about anything else, seems the previous owner had some VCDS work done then!

Wow, just wow!! is all I can say. Kudos for going for it with so many upgrades and OEM+ retrofits. As you say it's what Skoda should have sold the car with.

I did indeed have VCDS and had played about with a few settings. Sadly I owned the Octavia at the same time as getting married, buying property and other expensive things, so the amount of mods it's got in my ownership was limited to low cost stuff.

Looks like it's well cared for now though. Always good to see.

Thanks - as for the getting married bit, would that explain the loads of shiny stars I have been finding everywhere???
