Workshop warning message flash up

Recommended Posts

Twice on my drive to work over the last month or two (most recent was yesterday), I have heard a beep/boing sound, and then I have glanced down at the dash when safe to do so (normally a few seconds later) I have spotted the message '(check?) Workshop..... <something>' on the display, along with the yellow warning hazard triangle.

Sadly the message seems to vanish before I have had a chance to read it fully - much more quickly than than the 'ice warning' etc messages.  I've checked on the headunit and not seen any messages, other than one saying the Road Sign detection is limited (get a beep and a warning a few minutes after every time I start the start the car).  I was about 35 minutes into the trip, probably travelling at about 50mph on a straight-ish piece of road at a slight uphill gradient.

Will try and connect up VCDS later and see if that can tell me anything.  But in the mean does thing ring any bells?

Not sure on the current Octy but on the Golf the wipers do not clean the screen in front of the camera - so have you checked that the screen is properly clean.

Gave the car a wash at the weekend, so the screen is pretty clean.  That reminds me, must go and scan the car!

I suspect the last 2 detailed ones are caused by me enabling the Lane Assist camera for Speed sign detection.  Prior to that, however someone drove into my front offside wheel (20 Feb) so hard they broke the hub, so various parts were replaced by the insurance company, not sure if any of that would have a knock on affect.

Ive had the same error flash on my car. Took it to the workshop and they have diagnosed it as a defect in the selector lever. Part has been ordered and will only know if that sorts out the problem.

Meanwhile, did you get yours sorted? And if yes, what was the solution? Anyone else know about this?

Phew. I thought it was just me having this issue.

My 2014 vRS DSG does this about once a week, and the garage say there is nothing on the logs. I have to take it straight to the garage when it happens, so they can check the logs.

i'm about a month from my warranty ending, so am keen to understand the problem before my warranty runs out!

mbarnes, did you get any result?

Does the error message say:

"Error workshop leave vehicle only when selector lever is in position P" ?

If so, you need a replacement gear selector lever. Just had mine replaced under warranty with two weeks left.

See here also as you will need to persuade the dealer to act even if they cannot find a fault code!

Good luck & please give me a shout if your dealer isn't playing ball. Mine needed a decent 'shove' before they agreed to change the selector lever!

That is the message..... Sadly my warranty is expired (in terms of distance), and it is very close on age now too :-(

Which dealer did you use?  I've used Westover/Heritage (Yeovil) but they not sure I have much faith in them sorting this out under warranty, or even attempting to....

I have the same problem and still waiting from 2 stealers to do something about it, I even made a video for them.

Blade Skoda Bristol. They said there is a bulletin about this issue.

Good luck getting it sorted!

My dealer initially said that he couldn't find an error & said I'd need to come back if the error message reoccurred.

I said, "Are you saying you don't believe me? Why else would I have brought the car to you? We are just going to end up going round in circles......I bring it in, you don't find an error, I go away....."

I then suggested I would take it up with Skoda UK.

Within 10 mins I had a call back saying the master tech had found a relevant TPI.

New gear assembly ordered, fitted last week. No issues since.... fingers crossed.

I might phone your Bristol based dealer and see what they say... and then get their tech to talk to Heritage  (Heritage already hate me when they had to to stump up for the water pump failure).

I've only seen the issue a couple of times - and curiously nothing since my post about it.....

I think the warning will come back.

Mine went quiet periodically and then would reappear, sometimes two or three times in very quick succession.

If you read the VW forum link I posted earlier, the general consensus is that the warning will eventually become more and more frequent.

I dealt with Abby on the service side at Blade.

Good luck!

Mine did become more frequent but later less frequent again, sometimes weeks without a error, then sometimes few error a weeks, no rules really. In either case it f*cking ****ing me off having such errors on a new car.

I was really "lucky" as mine happened yesterday, and i happened to be near the garage, so i drove straight there, got it straight on the computer, and now have it booked in for investigation, in the couple of days before my warranty runs out.

I have this issue on my 2015 Octavia vrs tsi, the vehicle is under warranty. I take the car to the dealership and to investigate. The technician assures me that he has seen the issue before and confirms that it is the gear selector.

Anyway... they refuse to replace the gear selector as the message did not appear when the vehicle was with them. Better yet, they charge me £63.00 investigation fee, despite the car being under warranty.

Any ideas on how to tackle this?

There should be a fault code logged - query this with the dealer. Do you have a photo or video of the message showing on the car? If so this will help your case. Take it higher with the dealer and if there's no luck then take up with Skoda UK Customer Service.

Getting this error as well. After clearing its come to this below error. Strange it just popped up open. Car is about 1 year old. Happen to catch this on a normal full car scan. Don’t think this has anything to do with an audio install which uses a in line audio adaptor to the stock HU for DSP.

It's the selector lever. I had the same issue. Had it replaced and the car has been troublefree ever since.

Hi,

The error is not showing anymore.. What exactly did you replace? Maybe this was a freak error.. Will have to keep a tab on it.. Even when the car was serviced at the Skoda workshop, there was 0 errors on this.

The error will flash and go away but will show in the log. So if all you hear is a beep, you can be sure it's the lever.

Let’s hope it stays away. I still have 3 years warranty left so no issues there.

I had this problem, with the error message coming up intermittently.  I spoke to the dealership and booked it in, but the service manager said that if they couldn't identify the fault, they couldn't help.  Next time it came up, I stopped and took photographs of the error message.  Although the fault cleared, and wasn't showing when they tested the car, they accepted the photographs, and replaced the selector unit under warranty.
