There does seem to be plenty of YouTube and magazine reports that the new Yeti will be called "Karoq".  There also seems to be some consensus that it will be shown in Stockholm on May 18th?

Its a risk changing a successful name, Toyota still regrets changing Corolla to Auris

I tend to believe the view that all Skoda SUVs planned to be named with a word beginning K

Incidently Karoq is an Albanian village (near Southern border, to the right of Corfu on a map)

Sounds like the launch is in Stockholm 18-19 May, so 3 weeks time.

When i get one i will be changing the badge to 'Karod',

because i like a little Swede.

If it was a Gold colour the badge could read 'Karob'.

 or 'Karot'

because as long as Skoda improve the lights it will help you see in the dark.

I googled the name 'KAROQ" and came up with a number of articles stating that Stockholm might be the preferred public release date but frankly also mentioned now is Frankfurt later in the year.  What seems to be true in most articles is the name change from Yeti to Karoq.

One wonders if this is actually the demise of the Yeti.  I say that on the basis that if looks nothing like the original and is called something else, then it is hardly a Yeti.  I accept that many 2nd generations of cars looked entirely different from their predecessors but they did tend to retain the original name.

Mladá Boleslav, 28 April 2017 – The ŠKODA KAROQ is a completely new compact SUV. The emotive and dynamic design with numerous crystalline elements characterises ŠKODA’s new SUV design language. As a true ŠKODA, the ŠKODA KAROQ offers exceptional space in the interior and boot, new driver-assistance systems, Full LED headlights and – for the first time in a ŠKODA – a digital instrument panel. Five engine variants are available from 85 kW (115 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp), of which four are new. Features such as the rear-seat VarioFlex system and virtual pedal for the hands-free opening of the boot are additional smart ideas for the brand’s new compact SUV.

It is clear from the exterior shape, modified lines and larger dimensions that this is a completely new vehicle. The ŠKODA KAROQ is a sports utility vehicle with character: The emotive and dynamic design with numerous crystalline elements characterises ŠKODA’s new SUV design language.

The compact SUV measures 4,382 mm in length, is 1,841 mm wide, and 1,605 mm high. The long wheelbase of 2,638 millimetres (all-wheel version: 2,630 mm) gives the ŠKODA KAROQ a comfortable stance on the road. The increase in size benefits the passengers. The legroom is 68 millimetres.

The ŠKODA brand stands for an exceptional package. This also applies to the new KAROQ. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 521 litres with the back seats in place. With the rear seats folded down, the volume increases to 1,630 litres. In combination with the optional VarioFlex rear seat, the boot space is variable and can hold between 479 and 588 litres. The seats can also be completely removed – and the SUV becomes a van with a maximum loading capacity of 1,810 litres.

Segment leader: connectivity solutions
The ŠKODA KAROQ is at the top of its segment with innovative connectivity solutions. The infotainment building blocks come from the second generation of the Group's modular infotainment kit, offering state-of-the-art functions, interfaces and equipped with capacitive touch displays. The top systems Columbus and Amundsen have a WLAN hotspot. An optional LTE module is available for the Columbus system. The Internet connection is based on today’s fastest mobile radio standard, with which passengers can surf and access email freely with their phones and tablets.

The new mobile online services ŠKODA Connect are LTE-compatible and are divided into two categories: Infotainment online services are used for information and navigation; the CareConnect services for assistance in case of breakdowns and emergencies. The Emergency Call button, which will come as standard in Europe in 2018, is now available as a Care-Connect service. Additional online services can be accessed via the ŠKODA Connect app. These can be used to remotely check, configure and find the car via a smartphone.

The intelligent networking between car and smartphone has reached a new level in the ŠKODA KAROQ. The SmartLink+ platform, compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLinkTM, is available as an option for the basic infotainment system Swing. SmartLink+ comes as standard with higher infotainment systems. The phone box with inductive charging couples the smartphone to the roof antenna and simultaneously charges it wirelessly.

Reliable helpers: Driver assistance systems
The ŠKODA KAROQ offers a comprehensive range of driver assistance systems. New comfort systems include the parking assistant, Lane Assist and traffic-jam assistant.  Blind Spot Detect, Front Assist with predictive pedestrian protection and Emergency Assistant serve to increase safety. The ŠKODA KAROQ can tow trailers of up to two tonnes. The new trailer assistant helps when reversing slowly and manoeuvring.

Additional driver-assistance systems are available for the ŠKODA KAROQ to keep the car at a safe distance from the car ahead, make it easier for the driver to change and keep in lane, point out important traffic signs, and assist in parking.

The freely programmable digital instrument panel is available for the first time in a ŠKODA. In the ŠKODA KAROQ, the cockpit displays can be set to the driver’s individual wishes.

Full LED headlights with clear-lens optics are available as an option for the ŠKODA KAROQ from the Ambition equipment line and higher. In the interior, new LED ambient lighting in the decor strips of doors and the dashboard creates a pleasant atmosphere, which can be set in ten colours.

Powerful and agile: Engines and chassis
The ŠKODA KAROQ offers state-of-the-art technologies for engines. Five engine variants – two petrol and three diesel engines – are on offer. The two petrol engines and two diesels are new in the line-up. The displacement ranges are 1.0, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 litres; the power range is from 85 kW (115 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp). All drivetrains are turbo-charged direct injection units and feature start-stop technology and brake energy recovery. They are extremely economical and comply with EU 6 regulations. With the exception of the most powerful diesel, all drivetrains can be ordered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG. The 2.0 TDI with 140 kW (190 hp) comes as standard with 4×4 drive and 7-speed DSG. The new 1.5 TSI has the special feature of cylinder deactivation.

The ŠKODA KAROQ chassis also sets benchmarks in its segment and demonstrates its quality even off the beaten track. With the equipment line Ambition and higher, a driving profile selection with the modes Normal, Sport, Eco, Individual and Snow (4x4) is available on request. The Off-road mode with all-wheel-drive improves the driving characteristics on rough terrain.

Strategy 2025: ŠKODA drives SUV campaign forward
As part of ŠKODA’s Strategy 2025, the brand will be continually expanding the model range over the coming years. The primary focus will be on broadening the SUV range. Most recently, the ŠKODA KODIAQ became the brand’s first large SUV to be launched in the international markets. With the ŠKODA KAROQ, the company has now reached the next milestone. The new compact SUV celebrates its world premiere on 18 May in Stockholm; the market launch is set for the second half of 2017.

This explains the new name.

New compact SUV is called ŠKODA KAROQ

28.4.2017 | category: Models

› Name and spelling have been derived from the language of Alaska’s indigenous people
› The name KAROQ is a combination of the terms ‘KAA’RAQ’ (car) and ‘RUQ’ (arrow)
› With the KAROQ, ŠKODA is consistently advancing its SUV campaign
› World premiere of the new compact SUV will take place in Stockholm on 18 May

Mladá Boleslav, 28 April 2017 – ŠKODA’s new compact SUV is called the KAROQ. The name and its spelling originate from the language of the Alutiiq, an indigenous tribe who live on an island off the southern coast of Alaska. For the name of the new compact SUV, ŠKODA has drawn on the spelling of the ŠKODA KODIAQ and in doing so, has created a consistent nomenclature for the brand’s current and future SUV models. The ŠKODA KAROQ will be introduced to the public for the first time in Stockholm on 18 May and represents a further milestone in ŠKODA’s SUV campaign.

“The ŠKODA KAROQ is a completely newly designed SUV that sets new benchmarks for our brand and its segment in every way. With this new SUV, we are taking the next logical step in our SUV strategy,” says ŠKODA CEO Bernhard Maier. “The ŠKODA KAROQ impresses with its unique brand identity and a distinctive product identity and is introducing – alongside the typical ŠKODA strengths – the brand’s new, emotive design language into the compact SUV segment,” adds Maier.

As before with the ŠKODA KODIAQ, the people from Kodiak Island provided the inspiration for the name of the ŠKODA KAROQ. The coordinates of the remote archipelago off the southern coast of Alaska are 57°N and 153°W, and its untamed, unspoilt landscape is fascinating. In the language of the indigenous people from the Alutiiq tribe who live there, ‘car’ is ‘KAA’RAQ’. They use the term ‘RUQ’ for ‘arrow’, the symbol that constitutes the central element of ŠKODA’s logo and represents the brand’s dynamism. In the end, the name for ŠKODA’s new compact SUV – the ŠKODA KAROQ – was formed from the powerful combination of both words.

“It is important to us to give our new SUV a powerful name. It also forms part of a naming approach across our SUV models,” said Werner Eichhorn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “At the same time, we are creating exceptional and memorable brand recognition value for our customers,” continued Eichhorn.

As part of ŠKODA’s 2025 future strategy, the brand will continue to consistently advance the expansion of its model range in the coming years. The focus will be on expanding the SUV portfolio in particular. With the launch of the ŠKODA KODIAQ, a new large SUV was introduced to the international markets only recently. With the introduction of the ŠKODA KAROQ, the company is now setting the next milestone. The new compact SUV will be celebrating its world premiere on 18 May in Stockholm. Its market launch will follow in the second half of 2017.

Noticed that Varioflex rear seat design remains - that would sway me to remain with Skoda as it's better for me than Ateca rear seats. Having only one car means it has to be used flexibly. Still in love with my Yeti after nearly four years and 65,000 miles. I must be 'cos I spent five hours on Monday washing, clay barring and Bilt Hamber waxing it.

Yes i think you still can remove the back seats like in yeti

Only caution with that is the use of the word 'optional' in the press release. So, like quite a lot of other details, we'll just have to wait and see.

Optional VarioFlex rear seat, Seats can also be completely removed 1,810 litres.
