Model change timetable and what is involved at factory

Recommended Posts

Just wondered what the timetables have been for previous new model releases and changeovers?

Eg timetable from first public showing of Kodiac to when orders were opened, then to first delivery?

Similaly the change of Octavia from old model to latest?

Particularly interested in Yeti. Most statements are that the current car will continue to 2018, yet there are some reports i have seen elsewhere that last factory orders from buyers will be taken next weekend with any spaces filled on the production line with dealer spec cars, and last build end of June which would tie in with that.

If the new Yeti was revealed shortly as suggested in leaks from China, that would tie in with start of production in say September? Clearly they will want to minimise the time an old model is being made and sold once the new version has been revealed, particularly if completely revised style and hence possibly even a completely new name, as orders for the old version will dry up quickly.

What is involved in changing the production line to a new model? I naively thougt the line would have to be reset to just make that model, but recently watched a 30 minute video of Yeti build from flat steel to driving away. Clearly in the video were either Superbs or Octavias going down the same line interspersed with the Yetis. The staff along the line can clearly do a Superb and then move to a Yeti for a similar component and tha asociated support bring the right components alongside as needed. This means it must be relatively simple to add a new or revised model to the asembly line?

What 'statements' are you referring to, are there any from SKODA CZ or the VW Group and do you have any links to these?

The Yeti Replacement might be going down the line that Skoda are building the sister car as in the SEAT Ateca.
