Julian Assange

Or maybe he waved the "extradition to US" flag because he worried about a rape trial that could be a massive blow to his (self-)image. From his earlier comments it seems as if he thinks that sex with Julian Assange can never be non-consensual.

What was the period between the alleged act and the complaint?.

The rape allegedly occured night between 16 and 17 August 2011, complaint made 20 August.

The other case (sexual assault, where the statute of limitations expired in 2015) allegedly occured night between 13 and 14 August, complaint made 20 August.

The fact that both complainants went to the police the same day (albeit in different cities) would of course be seen by some as proof that the whole story is made up by FBI, CIA, the Global Feminist Conspiracy or whatever.

Maybe he didn't ring the next day, or the next day, or the day after that either.

You could say 'they got around to it' in their own time.

Men are guilty until proven innocent...........in the twittersphere at least.

And rape victims have only themselves to blame.......when cross-examined in the courtroom at least.

The big picture involves NATO allies.

America states it has no intent to persue extradition and there's no problem me thinks.

^^^Where do you see the US President saying that?

I read just recently, 'US prioritises arresting Julian Assange'.

That touring embarrassment complained about Hillary not wearing a scarf......"....as if we don't have enough enemies".

I wonder how many of his rusted-on supporters remember?.

No, it's really only about the rape allegations. He's done everything he can to avoid extradition to Sweden, hence hiding in the embassy which has no extradition treaty with Sweden or the EU.

If he's innocent, why go to such lengths?

Let's hope he doesn't upset the ambassador else he's screwed. No way to get to Russia without being arrested.

IMO he's no hero, but a vile individual. That's before we discuss the leaking of sensitive information which puts our troops, allies troops and our national security at risk.

No respect for restrictive practices - putting National Security at risk, that's Trump's job !

Meanwhile, in Ridyah, the lyrics of "Oh Effendi" are being played out again, ad nauseum:-

"In the middle of a caravan
On a four wheel drive oasis
There's a man with a thought in mind
To cash in on the desert faces

Got a truckload of Yorkshire girls
For your harem going places
And the border bums never saw
The guns in the whiskey cases

There's a real, big demand
And it's written in the palm of his hand
He's gonna change the face of the desert
He's gonna sweep away the sand

Hang on sheik, I've got a yellow streak
I ain't here, I'm a mirage
Get back Des, keep it under your fez
And don't give us away in the massage

Look what I did for the pyramid
I put a pool in and made it pay
I built a elevator and a film theater
I shipped it to the U.S.A.

There's a real big demand
And it's written in the palm of my hand
I'm gonna change the face of the desert
I'm gonna sweep away the sand

Hang on friends
There's a lot more goodies in the pipeline
So this ain't the time to close the deal
Here's the deal

Ooh, now you've got a Howitzer all of your own
Ooh, and a Panzer division to chauffeur you home
Gun running is fun
But hang on, friends, hang on friends

Allah be praised, there's a whole new craze
We're gonna shoot up the foreign legion
And it's up with the sheik and down with the frog
We're gonna liberate the region

(Oh Effendi)
We're gonna bury your head in the sand
(Oh Effendi)
You better get off my doggone land

Hey, prince of the moonbeams, son of the sun
Light of a thousand stars
Your gorillas are urban and there's bourbon on your turban
And the sun shines out of your ass

(Oh Effendi)
I'm gonna grovel in your wake
(Oh Effendi)
It's all been a big mistake

You're gonna cut out my liver if I don't deliver
Things are getting out of hand
I'm going to ride off into the sunset
And make a deal with the promised land

Goodbye friends
There's no more goodies in the pipeline"

One might suggest that is a somewhat naive understanding of the situation.

The Swedish extradition treaty exists for a purpose.

Would Sweden give up one of their own on the basis of a convenient charge which seemed to be an afterthought?

As I recall the idea of the US trying to extradite Assange from Sweden was suggested by Assange and there had never been a mention of it up to the piont that he skipped Sweden for the UK.

Anyone running away from a problem makes me think they have something to hide.

Clinton and Trump made no secret of their desire to get hold of him.

They could have saved the London bobbies a bob if they'd denied any interest in him.

Sweden issued an arrest warrant in August 2010 and Assange was arrested in London in December 2010. This was in the 2nd year of Obama's presidency, so Clinton was secretary of State and Trump was nowhere at that time.

For once, the Guardian is reporting something accurate: OMG

For those who don't want to click on the link:

"The US attorney general, Jeff Sessions, said that the arrest of the WikiLeaks founder was now a “priority”. US federal prosecutors were understood to be considering bringing charges against Assange over a number of the website’s publications since 2010, US media reported, which could potentially lead to a second extradition request for Assange, from Washington."

With Farage meeting Assange, who is reported in the press as having close links to Russia, Snowden already there, I've no doubts he'd be there in a flash if he could.

How would that fit in though with the new friendship with the current administration who want him so badly?

Wonder if he'll spill on his meeting with Farage. Or anything else.

Embassy was quick to let his room out lol

Despite Sweden dropping the charges against Assange, Corbyn, Abbott and 70 mp's (mostly Labour) want the government to prioritse extradition to Sweden if they request it over extradition to the USA, where he could be jailed for 5 years. Odd thing is that Assange basically 'jailed' himself for the last 7 years.

I wonder if the change of hair style and beard was an attempt to get out of the embassy in disguise?

Send him to the States as the weather in Guantanamo Bay is quite nice at this time of the year.
