Gissin's White vRS project

Hi all,

So after buying a few cars I wasn't bothered about working on, I'm back to playing with cars again B)

I purchased a White vRS FL TDI and have enjoyed every minute of it so far, I've not done too much yet mainly just getting the car to a nice standard first, so in doing so I brought the following to do a full detail on it:

Bilt hamber - korrosol and soft clay

Poor boys - wheel sealant and light polish

G3 colour restorer , super resin wax and clay mitt  (for the wheels)

Angelwax- heaven for leather cleaner

Megs - gold class shampoo and lambs wool mit

simmonz - tyre black and shine also picked up their hard wax with carnuba because it was on offer for £4 so why not :D

I already had a few bits in my kit already but this lot did me proud

a few obligatory shot after  the detail session:

korrosol to start with for a full decontamination of the wheels and paint work, this is brilliant stuff and only turns purple when it's working so this goes to show how much fallout is actually in your paint work and wheels

took the wheels off to give them a good scrub and seal too

fairly clean now so next up were a few little bits

fitted some heiko wind deflectors, changed the lamps to Bosch gigawatt 120's which I feel made a good improvement over standard lamps, then added some vRS seat inserts because I felt like something was always meant to be there.

then put on some pressed plates and surrounds- although because of the shape of the bumper the surrounds didn't quite sit flush as shown in the pictures so I added some screws top left to sort that and of course had to bend the plate slightly to match and fit but im happy with the result

I noticed the grey section of the seats were getting a bit dirty so I fitted some decent water proof seat covers

also got a new set of wipers as the old ones were not doing that great a job - Bosch aero twins

Next on the list is:

Tints 70% fronts 50 rears

Sub and amp - because I miss the low end I'm used to - still working on how to do this on a standard HU

Gear box oil change

need to get around to fitting the mud flaps / guards and when I next take the wheels of ill put some new centre caps on probably the same time.

new badges front and rear

Colour code the front grill (not sure if to go full white or white top and black bottom)

Remapped (of course) B)

still weighing up if I should lower it and if so by how much

and probably another full detail session with a DA see if I can get it in the garage for that

Looking good, always got time for purple dribbles.

Adding sub should be fairly straight forward if your amp has high level inputs or you have RCA converters, tap into the rear speakers behind the head unit. A switchable live should be too hard to find.

yeah I know that's an option but id rather not splice into the rear speakers (don't you loose them doing this?)  I was looking at an intermediate between the quad lock something like: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adaptor-2-Channel-Amplifier-Remote-Quadlock/dp/B00SRGV9QS

I think this has the potential to work, I've not yet taken the bolero out to have a look at the unit to see what's available

Quad lock systems looks good, basically a RCA converter.

In my Fiesta I used the rear channel to run the sub/amp, I had no need for rear speakers and the sound staging was better, plus it meant I had volume control over the sub through the head unit.

Quite partial to a full black grill (not bias at:blush:) though you'd be the first split black/white one I've seen.

so work has slowed a little whilst I work out what I'm doing, and prepare my old PD octy for sale which will be in the next few weeks!

in the mean time I decided I needed to spruce the engine bay up a bit as a test run to see what it was like before I do it properly however I used : http://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-body-repair/specialist-decorative-paints/halfords-peelable-paint-white heads up don't use this! not only did it go on poorly (spotting from the nozzle) it wasn't a good finish either and when I decided it was ****e and I would take it off it was an absolute nightmare I didn't just peel off like plastidip normally does it broke off into tiny pieces especially in the groves and bends in the CR engine cover and ended up taking nearly 4 hours to get it back to normal using brake cleaner, sponge, detailing brush, sourer and a micro screwdriver.

I think white top, black bottom on the grill would look quality!

What size / model badges are appropriate for fitting the new style to a Mk2 FL Octavia vRS?

1ST 853 601A AUL - Front

1ST 853 630 AUL - Rear

601 151 ULM - Wheels

surprisingly the cheapest place I got them from was the dealers
