Hi

I am new to the forum and am relatively new to Skoda ownership. So, I hope this is the right place to air my problem!

I have a 2010 Skoda Fabia 1.6 Estate 105 and up to a few weeks ago, was running fine. But without any waning or noticeable symptoms, the heater/glowplug warning light came on and the engine switched to "Safe Mode" The engine could be stopped and then restarted and the light would be off but the, at about 3500RMP, it would do it again. After a few resets the engine warning light came on. I took it to my local garage (a good place, but not a Skoda specialist) who hooked it up to his computer. This did not give any definitive results but he concluded the the Diesel Particulate Filter may need regeneration as it is mainly used for short journeys. So, I got some gloop from the locals car shop and ran through a tank full of fuel. This did not clear the fault but a few days ago, the enginne warning light went off, the glowplug warning light has stopped coming on and the car was running well. However, for a short while I got  a warning the the Key battery was low - this message has also now disappeared and I now am being warned of an Airbag Failure - and the Airbag warning light is now permanently lit.

If there's anybody out there who's had a similar experience and found a fix, then I'd love to know what it was.

Thanks, AG

Hi Bertie90

Thanks for the response. No, I don't know if the car has had the emissions software update - Is there any way I can tell? The car was bought off someone who I can no longer get in touch with.

Call or Email Skoda Customer Services and see if your vehicle is one to get the fix or has had it,

or check the 'VIN Checker for affected vehicles' & see what it shows,

obviously VW Group are counting how many done and ready for the Audit from DVSA / UK Government as they claimed more than 50% were done months ago and that 20,000 a week were getting done.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I did call Skoda, as suggested, and they advised me that no upgrade has been carried out as they have not got the solution ready. But I would be contacted "soon" to advise me where and when the upgrade would be available. There would be an upgrade as my car was one of the models affected.

Whether-or-not this will cure my problem remains to be seen.

BTW: One other issue is that the car when driving will rev. up to 5000RPM but in neutral will only rev up to approximately 2500RPM. Hmmm.....

The Upgrade is available now, If this is The Fix to remove the Defeat Device and supposedly have the cars perform as they did at EU Type Approval,

and Skoda owners with 1.6TD's have had it done, so best ask Skoda Customer Services in writing if they know their ar53 from their elbow, or flow restrictor, or what ever they are calling it.
