How easy is it to replace air-con refill valves ?

How easy is it to replace the aircon-refill valves on a octy vrs ?

Was told you couldn't replace the valves as they are part of the pipe, but when I rang Skoda up today to find out how much the pipes were, they said that they sell the valves for about 14 quid each....a lot cheaper than buying the complete pipe !

So, is it a easy job to do ?

Many thanks !

This job can only be done by a qualified aircon technician as it's a criminal offense to release any aircon gas in the system into the atmosphere. I'm guessing there probably isn't much, if any, gas in the system if you have a problem with the valves. The system will probably also need leak testing after they're fitted to make sure the valves aren't the only problem before it's refilled. It's going to need proper aircon service kit as the system will need to be vacced down before the new gas goes in.

I would ask my dealer for an estimate to fit them and maybe a specialist car aircon place though I would tend to favour a dealer or Skoda/VAG specialist as they should have the software to hook a laptop up to the car and get all the stats out of the aircon system to make sure everything is kosher when they regas it.

The bit at the top is not strictly true, Any body can work on the aircon system so long as the gas has been taken out of the system by a aircon technicain. once the gas is out the system is just nut's and bolts.

Any good indy garage can empty and refill the system if they have an aircon service machine, you don't need software or a laptop to do it, as the machine does it all, just need to know how much gas and pag oil to inject in the system.

i can set up the machine at work but because i'm not signed off on aircon yet i can't by law press the start button.

Yep, thanks for the reply, I've booked my car in next week to a local garage that also does aircon, most probably rain non stop after it's fixed !
