Rolling Road Day, JKM Portsmouth, 28th October 2017

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Some of you may remember last year i organised a rolling road day at JKM Portsmouth. The day was a success with a good turn out with lots of like minded enthusiasts to talk to and discuss all things cars (both fossil fuel and electric!!)

I'm hoping to do the same this year, i have not approached JKM yet as they will probably want a minimum of 10 people signed up before they run the day so this is just a feeler for those who want to come and see what power their cars are making :)

Few points to note... JKM's rollers are 2WD only. Most of us will be wanting to run a FWD car which is fine, any of you who have RWD car and want to run (including myself) then please still put your name down. JKM will ask for a minimum number of RWD cars (not sure what this will be yet) as they will need to turn the rollers round to get them in and if there's only a couple running then it won't really be in their interest. RWD cars will run after all FWD cars nearer the end of the day.

No vans except VW caddy size

The dyno has a small ramp which leads up to it. Any cars which are very low will not get on the dyno. Please check with me first if you are unsure.

All runners will receive a colour print out of the best run.

As i said above, we have been running this day for a few years now with good success. JKM's rollers are renowned to be some of the most accurate in the country (aptly named the "heartbreak rollers") so bring a box of tissues with you!

Provisional date, pending JKM's availability, is Saturday 28th of October.. same day as last year where ambient temps are usually low... good for power!

Cheers

Andy

UPDATE

So now we have 10 people on the list I have contacted JKM and he date is held! The details are as follows:

The event is on Saturday 28th October and starts at 09:00am, gates open at  08:45am

Minimum of 10 cars - Maximum of around 25-30 cars. 3 minimum RWD cars for them to turn the rollers round at the end of the day.

£35 for 3 back to back runs - cash preferred on the day to speed payments up.

No Vans, expect VW Caddy size, No 4 wheel drive cars or Haldex 4 wheel drive

The dyno has a small ramp which leads up to it. Any cars which are very low will not get on the dyno. Please check with me first if you are unsure.

You will receive a colour print out of the best run.

Free Tea/coffee/Biscuits will provided all day

Please keep putting your names on the list so we can track how many cars will be turning up.

See you there guys!

Might ask Mrs V6TDI if I can bring her red Polo GTI, which I'm sure she'll be delighted at my suggestion, so expect to see me in the yellow peril, again :notme:

Gaz

Edit: MrsV6TDI has confirmed I'll be in the vRS with the sagely comment 'you're not blowing up my f'kin gearbox!'

Is there a confirmed minimum required number of rwd cars?

Oops yep Kate said 3 RWD cars is enough for them to turn the rollers around at the end of the day for us.

There are 2 of us on the list now plus provisionally a third. We should be able to find a couple more before the day.

Have updated the top post again
