The front ones really get fouled up with the brake dust

rear ones just take a bit of a wipe

what is good for the front ones and to apply to make the dust come off easier

i am not keen on a "try not to spray brake items" products

cheers

A brake dust barrier spray makes the dust stick less, after every wash. Or Bilberry wheel cleaner is not acidic more alkaline based. I don't get as scared about getting some in my eyes.

Thanks

i did wonder if there was something like a barrier, and mused about using body wax....

the wheel cleaner would suit as well as I have a wheel brush

Some of the people in the detailing section will have plenty of advice. I am no detailer. Just like to make cleaning easy. I don't use a barrier although I have used some in the past and still have the spray. Just like a wax really. The Bilberry I bought with an empty spray bottle and free wheel brush from a detailing company maybe on eBay. As a package watered down takes a good 2 washes per wheel maybe because it's watered down too much. I don't wash regular though.

i think you are right...will check on the detailing section

its a small thing but the rear wheels only need a wipe over with my usual waterless cleaner..

Agreed the rears are not usually as caked in dust as the fronts on all my cars.

Today I have just tried for the first time Alloy Wheel Sealer (Poorboys stuff)....  Cleaned the wheels last night with wheel cleaner, brush etc, then this morning I polished all four with Autoglym resin polish and over the course of the day have applied 3 coats of the Poorboys sealer.  They recommend 2 - 3 on polished wheels so I went the whole hog, took a few hours total between doing other things.  Will see how this performs, wheels certainly looking top notch today, just need to get on and polish/wax the rest of the car!!  Worth noting I applied the wheel sealer with a microfibre cloth and will need to go over the tyres with gel to clean up some sealer residue that ended up on the tyres....Cheers

That would be worth knowing.

I will check out wheel cleaner and do that first. Just been using waterless cleaner.

I've been using Carplan Demon Wheels, seems ok but not one of the more expensive ones.  Needs a good rub with a brush for best results, Cheers

.You've done exactly the right thing by sealing your wheels, although as you've discovered it can take time initially. The idea is that once they've been sealed you won't need to keep using harsh chemical's on them each time you clean them and the brake dust should come off using just car shampoo. It is recommended to use a specialist product as normal wax for the body is not designed for the high temperatures the wheels are subjected to. However if you want something that can go both on your wheels and paintwork then Finish Kare 1000P .seems to get good reviews and is not too expensi

Thanks for that.  Typical Scotland summer its raining today and I notice lots of nice beading on the wheels....I will be following up with polish and wax on the paintwork.  Will keep going with the wheel sealer I have just now, see how that does for a while....got the rest of the tub to get through! Didn't know about the high temperature rating of normal wax, interesting to hear that.  Not heard of Finish Kare before, have just got my hands on a tub of Farecla G3 wax paste thats going to get applied very soon! :-)

bilt hamber korrosol expensive for a reason its the best! follow up with 2 coats of poor boys wheel sealant (pink) leave it for a few hours and get some simmonz hard wax 2 coats of that and honestly 3 months without anything sticking to your alloys and to clean them spray clean water only.
