Lights still on warning

Hi there. One of the manyear little niggles that my new purchase has come with. 

 

Please excuse the technical term but should much 51 plate vrs make a dinging noise if I leave them on with the keys out of the ignition?

 

Twice I've left the lights on now killing the battery.

Yes it should. It's a common problem.

 

It's probably the microswitch in the door lock that has gone. I'd guess that the door puddle light and door open light on the dash don't work either?

 

You can get replacement lock mechanisms on eBay for under £20.

Hello there.

What he said,  do you also not get the little red car with a door open symbol on the dash when you open the door of you still have the key in the ignition,  whereas perhaps you do if one of the other doors or boot is opened?   All points to door lock or possible corrosion with door loom connector.

@ChubbyT - That's all sound advice, but mine has lost the lights on buzzer, although the door light and courtesy lights are still activated off the driver's door opening.

@KenONeill nothing on mine is working (lights or buzzer) so I'll assume it's the switch for now.

That's the entire mechanism/driver convenience unit.

It will work, but for about £6, you can instead just replace the microswitch, as per this thread:

 

I'll be replacing my own later this week, if I get teh time, although since flooding it with contact cleaner and WD40, it has started working.

Thanks guys all done following that guide. I just replaced the whole mechanism as a pattern part was £20 off ebay. Took me just over an hour and has fixed multiple issues.
