Anyone know what this component is for ???

Recommended Posts

A few days ago I had a flat tyre. No problem, spare fitted, tyre replaced & refitted.

Afterwards I found this in the boot. I assume it was originally in the spare wheel bay under the boot, but there is no slot for it in the tool kit.

Anyone know what it's for ?

Thx KK

It's to prevent the large plastic 'nut' that holds the spare wheel in place, from becoming loose. The threaded tube that projects through the hole in the centre of the spare wheel has a vertical slot in it and the plastic 'thingy' drops into the slot and the retaining 'nut'.

As pist0nbr0ke says it's rather difficult to describe!

Never seen one of these and my nut has never worked loose either.:dull:

Yes, I thought it very strange because my wife's Golf and my previous Octavias have/had a plain 'nut' without this retainer.
