'EA 189 NOx' emissions service

Recommended Posts

Due to put my car in local Skoda dealership for MOT, how can I ensure they do not 'fix' the 'EA 189 NOx' emissions without my permission? I spoke to person on the phone at the dealership and they said 'oh don't worry, we won't do the work if you don't want us to'

Unfortunately I've read somewhere that this does not guarantee this 'fix' will not be carried out. I've thought of getting the service manager to sign a document to say they will guarantee this, am I being too 'over the top'?

Also, last years MOT advisory was brake pads 'worn' so expecting them to be failed this time, is there a list/tariff I can look at to get some idea of price?

Thank you in anticipation.

My advice, for what it's worth, is to steer clear of the main dealer and find a trusted local independent VAG specialist to look after your car. Having said that, I've actually used Halfords for my last two MOT's without a problem. Wouldn't trust them with anything else though! Only used them because they are very close to home and my VAG specialist doesn't do MOT's.

As always ... your choice!

As long as you make it clear they aren't to perform the fix, you shouldn't have any issues.

Mine EA189 Octavia has been in  3-4 times since I was first offered the fix, both dealers have been completely happy not to perform it :)

You are supposed to be offered a waiver to sign if you don't want the update done. This is included in the instructions to dealers for the campaign. If you do go to the dealer for your MOT be sure to ask for this and ask for a copy for your own records.

This is the latest communication out from Skoda (VW) UK.

Taken from a thread in the Yeti Section posted last week, 'Credit where credit is due'.

Mines been in the dealers twice since getting the 3rd letter from Skoda, 1st was for MOT, I declined to have the update done which they said no problem, 2nd time was for a service and they asked if I still didn't want it done, which I didn't.

positive both sets of paper work have declined on them for updates. I've not had to sign anything.

since then I've had them same info in the post as in the picture above.

lad I know with a Yeti declined it and service department said I don't blame you

Have you had the latest communication from the VW Group so that you can tell them 'No way Jose'. ?

Time the UK Government were looking at how many have now told VW Group on your bike due to how crap their FIx and Customer information and honesty has been.

I took my Superb to the main dealer for an MOT. "We've looked at it sir and you need a new anti-roll bar" came the call.

My dashcam revealed the car was driven out of the main dealer to the grottiest wooden-shed dive in town. This is where the MOT was performed in the recording. They'd farmed the job out to the cheapest joint in town and passed it off as their own work from beginning to end.

I gave the shed a call incognito and they charge considerablely less for an MOT than the main dealer. Not that I would EVER dream of taking it there.

Lesson learned for next time. Ask where the MOT will be performed.

This sounds like grounds for an official complaint to Skoda UK.
