Upgrades to cr170

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Not posted in a while.

I've recently had an engine failure so having a new engine but looking to upgrade whilst it's in. I'm looking for a little more power. I've had stage one before. So I'm told fmic and air intake with a car back exhaust is a good way to go for stage 2 and I can't work out what else I need. I've thought about bigger turbo but it seems I need a lot of other bits to run a bigger turbo. Ideally I'd like around 240/250 bhp with lots of torque. But dunno where to start. My budget is around 3/4k including engine which I've seen for around 1.5k

Cheers in advance. Any help would be great

Coming from a Stage 2 CR TDI Leon Mk2 I had to modify the DPF (gutting out the filter) which got me close to 225-230Bhp and 400 ft lb torque. Now to get the optimum performance from Stage 2 you can add an uprated intercooler perhaps from an S3 (i believe is a direct fit) and also CAI modifications.

Now if you want to achieve more then you are talking the following
1. Turbo upgrade

2. Injector upgrade

3. Exhaust / manifold

4. Internals

And the list goes on........ :D

Look up Darkside (Diesel performance specialist) as they sell turbo upgrade kit.

Good luck with your full upgrade with Darkside Developments. I got a quote from them some time back and it was in the region of 6K to get my CR170 to 260Bhp. They said anymore would kill the car.

My opinion.............not worth it. Buy a faster car!!

Unless you really need a diesel I'd be tempted to get shot of yours (either as is, or with a replacement engine) and replace with a stage 1 TSI VRS (or even stage 2 depending on available funds for the downpipe/CAI). The blue one that came on sale here yesterday for example would be an ideal starting point. Far more bang/fun for your buck.
