Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo has been re-introduced as Rapid Edition

Recommended Posts

koda Rapid Monte Carlo has been re-introduced as Rapid Edition X in India. Soon after its launch in August this year, its sales were halted in the country due to a trademark dispute with the Monte Carlo Fashions, a Punjab-based apparel company. Earlier, the local court of Punjab passed a notice to stop the sales of the new sedan in India.

The re-launched product seems to have carried forward all the specs and features from the previously launched model, apart from the nameplate. It is now available for sales in the country and the deliveries of the new sedan are expected to commence soon.

The India-bound Skoda Rapid Edition X flaunts the same red shade at the exterior, while the cabin is all-black and finely finished with good quality materials. Upfront, the car features an aggressive front grille finished in the black shade, newly designed headlamps, and a blacked-out roof. It sports dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, which add spark to the fresh look of the sedan.

The all-black interior comes with aluminum scuff plates and flaunts a faux-carbon fiber finished dashboard which offers a touchscreen infotainment system. Moreover, the leather-wrapped steering wheel comes with a red stitch, which adds to its sportiness.

The Indian-spec special edition model offers two engine options - petrol and diesel. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.6-litre engine that delivers a maximum power output of 103 bhp against a peak torque of 153 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel version will derive its power from a 1.5-litre engine which produces a maximum power output of 109 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. While the transmission duties of both the variants are taken care by a standard 5-speed manual gearbox, the petrol version comes with an option of 6-speed automatic gearbox and the diesel unit offers an optional 7-speed DSG gearbox.

The price of the Rapid Edition X starts from Rs. 10.75 lakh (ex-showroom) and is most likely to compete with the cars of the C-segment sedan in India, which includes Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.
