◾Vehicle excise duty for diesel cars that do not meet latest standards to rise by one band in April 2018

Latest standards are obviously Euro 6, but then Euro 5 likely included, so lets see if it is Euro 4 and older.

They are not good on detail but by tomorrow that will be cleared up and maybe even revised.

It only relates to first year VED so new cars sold that aren't at the latest Euro standards

Quote

A VED supplement will apply to new diesel cars first registered from April 1 2018, so that their First-Year Rate will be calculated as if they were in the VED band above. This will not apply to next-generation clean diesels – those which are certifed as meeting emissions limits in real driving conditions, known as Real Driving Emissions Step 2 (RDE2) standards.

The rise in the existing company car tax diesel supplement from 3% to 4%, with effect from April 6 2018 will also apply only to diesel cars which do not meet the Real Driving Emissions Step 2 (RDE2) standards (60) 3.43 VED.

Philip Hammond MP's words were not clear, but there is more to it than appears it would appear, possibly, maybe, looks like.

In the House tomorrow Ministers of State will go into detail, the Benefits Minister, maybe Transport Minister and others and then from Hansard and published documents you get detail, and a long way down the line HMRC will clear up the mistakes. Every budget is the same.

The tax increase at first registration will be on all new diesel cars including EURO 6 unless the vehicle has passed Real Driving Emissions test.  Manufacturers were/are??? only legally required to publish RDE results in 2021.

WTF did he mean by 'Diesel cars that do not meet the latest standards'.

Those sitting new since 1st September not First Registered until after April 2018, maybe those diesels without SCR or is it something else?

What is with Chris Grayling MP standing at the back, face like fizz,

is this getting at him because he let the Car Manufacturers take the pith with new Real World Testing and?

Also they are letting VW Group take the total pith or were !

?

So are people ordering a new diesel car now or in the next 4 months for delivery in the UK for cash / finance / lease going to have to pay more than expected if it is not in the UK and First Registered before the 6th of April 2018.?

If so are dealers going to be making this clear to potential customer, or have they started?

I'd be surprised if there's any change to older cars. Let's not forget that Maggie May has a very slim majority/ there's a possibility of Brexit being her slippery slope and possibly a vote of no confidence, so would any teetering government be likely to upset another group of prospective voters. I'd say that the motorist is one thing that the Tories do not want to upset at moment. Witness, a private members bill, which I am assured by my MP will get party backing to curtail the powers of rogue parking companies to get RK data from DVLA.
