Looking to buy Fabia MK2 VRS 60k miles ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all .

I have seen a lovely 2012 VRS Fabia but a bit concerned of the engine issues that seem related to the oil consumption.

If the car had an issue would the Jetting modification sort it and give me peace of mind. I only do 24 to 30 miles a day when on shift and the car is a cracker . Real shame about the problems .

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Cheers , Gary .

It is not a Jetting Modification, it is New Oil Spray Jets, some say it worked for them.

See the pinned thread at the top of the page, and recent questions on buying in the past week.

Down the page the vRS  Guide from EVO is in a post.  Mostly with info from this forum and a member.

?

So what is it a CAVE or a CTHE which were out last quarter 2012?

?

Who is selling it, Evans Halshaw?

See the posts on this page,

Water Pump will be needing changed soon if not done, maybe £500, or up or down.

Plenty of these type of threads.

Do your checks.

Hi Awaoffski ,

Thanks for your reply !

The garage is called Motor Choice which are part of the John Clark Group. I'm popping over tomorrow to have a look at her . I don't know the engine type yet but will check it out and I'm glad you mentioned about the water pump ! Its on a 62 plate . Its white with standard colour wheels and has cruise control which I really wanted .

New oil spray jets !! That's what I meant ..!

Thanks for directing me to the posts and hope it looks okay tomorrow .

Thanks , Gary.

OK,

so i know JCM Group quite well in Aberdeen, Perth & Dundee Skoda Specialist cars.

The Technicians there know all about Twinchargers, they have dealt with enough.

So you need to see what the salesman is saying, if he does not know about Twinchargers that will be no surprise.

So you get your warranty, you get the car if you want it, and if in a few days you find out it is wrong one you return it,

so just make the salesperson aware they better be sure the car is checked out.

Correct plugs in, and make him or her aware about the Water Pump and they can speak with a Technician.

They need to be sure they sell cars fit for purpose.

Have fun with a road test.

The white one with Black Pack?

First Registered 1st October 2012.

Should be a CTHE,  but check.   Just incase a late registered CAVE, but i doubt that.

Bottom of Drivers Door Pillar, Sticker with CTHE on it.

& VIN in the Spare Tyre Well.

(Check there see if a '34F7' sticker as well, service campaign done on the DSG.)

So it failed the last MOT, so will have new brake pads now.

Check how the discs look.

*Tell them on the MOT Advisory, and you want the

Offside Front Lower Suspension Arm Bush Replaced.  Even though it passed a MOT.

Some MOT Examiner likely failed it on no Side Lights / Position Lights as many do,

because they do not think the Sidelights / DRL Unit are sidelights and want them in the headlights.

Passed after all OK, probable after finding out there were dummy bulbs in the headlights.

You need to check if it is on lowering springs.

Looks like there was a Rear ARB on in 2016 at the MOT,

& maybe that was why the Head Lights were set too low then.  (someone put the wheels back on with the directional tyres the wrong way in 2016.

Check all 4 tyres now and see how they look, and what they are.

Hi , yes I'm sure that's the one . I had my old Octavia 4x4 fail on the indicators ....unbelievable ! Thanks for doing the checks and doesn't sound too bad really as long the main issues have been recalled .

I will do those checks Awaoffski and I'm sure I will enjoy the test drive if the snow stays away this time !!

Fingers crossed its a good one .

Thanks a lot ..Gary.

Is it in Edinburgh?

I am at the Airport Monday afternoon and can go first and check it out if you do not already have it.

No probs. just ask.

I will be going to the Gyle anyway after 2 PM.

PS

They still show them with Front Fog lights which they never had.

Dont let cruise control be a deal breaker.

It can be fitted by Tech1e (Ross) on here for roughly £300-350 or whatever it is now. He did mine, brill job.

So if you see the perfect car which hasnt got cruise, maybe an option (:

Hi !

Sorry for not replying to your previous posts ...I thought I had the email alerts on but obviously not .

It was good of you to offer to see the car and I would have liked that . I went through on Friday ( snow wasn't bad after Stirling in morning).

I told him that I wanted the water pump doing and its due a service anyway . Mentioned about the chain tensioners too .

It was a nice looking car and drove well on test drive . It is the CAVE engine unfortunately but it had a good service history and checked all the receipts . Found one about the gearbox judder . It didn't have the sticker to show that it had been recalled though .

The ecu light was on which concerned me a bit . He mentioned that right at the beginning but the car had just arrived and was still to go get prepared etc !!

On the test drive I the gearbox was spot on but when the engine was still cold she cut out at the traffic lights. I thought I was a start stop thing but it wasn't . I put her in neutral and restarted and went ok. I pulled in again when it was still just under working temp and 20 seconds later she cut out again. Box back in N and restarted and on my way again. When I got back I kept my foot on the brake and sat for 2 minutes and she was ok. Not sure if its the coil pack but as stated it will all get rectified once its through the workshops .

I am going to give her a go and see how she gets on bud . I know most would have probably walked away due to what you find out about the actual problems these cars have and also the car being a CAVE engine with the ECU light on but I'm willing to give it a chance and also see how the garage performs also .

I took out a 12 month warranty etc too . I will keep my eye on the oil as you should anyway and look into the oil spray jets modification if needed .

Thanks for your help as much appreciated and I will let you know how she gets on. If all is well I will pick her up next Friday .

Cheers , Gary.

It should never cut out.  Even stone cold at -8*oC.

It is an EPC light.

Can be misfires logged, can be many thing.  (Different from the Engine shape light 'Exhaust Emissions control'.)

It likley needs the water pump changing and the 2 belts.

* Have the agreed to a new water pump and 2 belts being replaces or just it will be getting serviced?*

?

IS IT A SKODA WARRANTY you are getting, or whos?

The Plugs really need changed.

It should not be the coils, but obviously can be.

With the Warranty you need to look at nothing,  the Spray Jets would be done under warranty, and if still not a fix then the Engine Replaced.

You need to check then that the DSG was not one that had in Synthetic oil so part of the Service Campaign.

It was not a RECALL.  it is '34 F7'  and should show on the VIN Checker if outstanding.

Example of the lights.

Both can come on and stay on.

With the Water pump & Super Charger magnetic Clutch needing replaced, the EPC light can show,

then the Exhaust Emissions Control light, especially if on Cruise Control,

then you have the Super Charger off.

So re buying a 12 month Warranty @ Motor Choice part of  the John Clark Group.

http://john-clark.co.uk/motorchoice

http://john-clark.co.uk/motorchoice/warranty

There was a EPC light on,

the car cut out when on a test drive, and the sales person knows it needs a service.

So there is a known issue, on a car that can have known issues since the engines from 2010-2012 were discontinued in 2012.

Best car to buy then, because Motor Choice / John Clark Group will need to ensure it is fit for purpose,

and no Warranty Manager / Underwriter can say 'Known issues',  because the Warranty seller knew about them, and was going to rectify them.

With the DSG, likewise, known issue, and John Clark Group salespeople should know.

result.

If the car is wrong on delivery return it.

Not a good sign if stuff wrong from the get go. Surely they should be checking this **** prior to putting on the forecourt to sell. Why not look about for another one. Plenty on auto trader. I went all the way to Manchester for mine . Glad I did

Hi guys !

Sorry for late response to your messages , I thought I had sent a message back via my phone but don't see it here !!

The car had just been traded in and had not been through their workshop for prep etc when I went to see it . Reason the yellow light was still on and the car cutting out in drive when cold . The car performed well apart from that and knew she would get sorted if I decided to purchase ...which I did ! I was told that it was an O2 sensor causing the problem . For the life of me I cant bloody remember what yellow light was on now...!!! Got a feeling it was the engine block one..or was it ?? Just one though .

The warranty is from Scotsure and covers MOTs and a recovery which I hopefully wont use !

It was serviced before pick up and the oil looked quite fresh when I checked for peace of mind . My only concern is the water pump that you mentioned offski . The head lights are quite poor and obviously I only knew about this when driving to work and home again in the dark ! I have just got the Philips Extreme H7's delivered today so will be putting them in and hoping for an improvement !

I've had her for over a week now and have sat in traffic a lot due to long term road works in the Stirling area and the car hasn't cut out and runs fine . I have noticed a light haze in the rear view mirror now and then when pulling out of roundabouts using the torque and high gears recently . I took her back to the garage this morning as planned for my wheels to get refurbished and I gave her a bit of stick and noticed a wee puff of smoke on the change up but most of the time its ok. I keep my eye on the oil and so far ok but early days yet .

Sent a request to Skoda Customer Care also with regards to any info on work that has or not been done ...so hopefully hear back from them in a day or two . Noticed an invoice for checking judder from the gearbox but nothing saying what was done or outcome . That was a few years ago .

I only drive 11 miles to work so around 22 miles a day and most of the time I take it easy and I get over 40 mpg easily . Oil temp runs at around 86 degrees . I just want to make sure she has had the mods done and gets serviced properly by people who know what they are dealing with . I am still getting used to her and I am enjoying the car a lot . The road works on the way home worry me a bit as sitting in traffic for long periods at time with low revs .

There was some nice cars for sale down south but due to personal reasons I couldn't travel this time around for my motor and also with the type of car and cost I wanted somewhere close if any trouble needed sorting . I bought my 52 plate Octavia Turbo 4x4 on ebay from Wales and it was certainly worth the travelling as it turned out to be a great buy . Miss that car a lot !!

Thanks for all your help and its reassuring that there are plenty of knowledgeable people on this forum to help / advise me if needed .

I will keep you posted ...great forum.

Cheers

Gary.

Perfectly normal. Nothing to do with oil burning.

They run rich on start up and until the oil is up to temp,

and build up soot in the exhaust as as the give it some laldy fire it out the tail pipe.

Great for having them tail gateing you thinking they are following a diesel as you take off into the distance.
