New Meteor grey vRS owner has some questions

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

I've just ordered a new Octavia Estate 2.0 TSI vRS in Meteor grey with the Black pack on a 2 year lease deal. It's due to arrive sometime in March.

I've just sold my BMW M4 Comp pack which had every option ticked and all M Performance carbon parts added was lowered with spacers and looked and drove brilliantly.

However, I had the opportunity to buy a Porsche GT4, so I did! It's on another level next to the M4.

This will be my first Skoda and after reading reviews and opinions on this forum I'm pretty excited to get this new car and make it my own as it'll be a great daily work horse.

My first question is does anybody have any experience with coilovers and spacers and the best make to get and people to do the work on it (preferable in the Northwest)?

Secondly I'd like to keep the 18's it comes on and get some 19" or 20" wheels for summer. I don't want to drop the car to maxpower levels but I do want to get rid of the arch gap so it sits better. What wheel sizes/makes should I be looking at if anyone has experience with this?

I kept everything OEM on the BMW but I'm guessing that Skoda don't do a set of performance adjustable springs or coilovers?

Many thanks for any replies in advance and looking forward to contributing to the community.

Tommy

I’ve got some custom coil overs ordered for my 17 plate VRS,

Not a huge selection available when I first started looking. Maybe it’s due to the fact the track is wider?

Dont know any garages in the Northwest specifically but if a mechanic could fit a set of coilovers I’d be extremely worried.

The Octavia is overlooked modifying wise compared to the VW and Audi brothers. A few people have modified but most are kept standard.

Wheel wise looking at pre facelift vehicles, it seems 19” are the best size proportionate for the arch. Won’t need to go too low and some have pulled it off with just a decent set of lowering springs.

Wheel makes, models, Width sizes and ET’s are all personal preference. Depends if you want a usable set up or a “stance” look.

Your M4 and GT4 look stunning. Something I could only dream about.

Perhaps it would help if you gave more details about the model of vRS you had ordered and especially what suspension options (if any) had been ticked?

Slightly baffled as you start by saying you are leasing the car for 2 years.

You then mention you are modifying it.

Not sure what kind of lease you have but many ban or restrict modifications, or at very least anything you change has to be reversible and restored before you hand it back.

If it is your everyday runabout rather than your fun car, I cannot see (perhaps I am missing something obvious) what you are trying to achieve (especially comparing it to a Porsche).  Perhaps it’s simply because I’m in London and Councils add new speed bumps every few days so lowering your everyday car is bonkers (everyone is swapping to SUVs to gain height).  I suspect others are having same lack of clarity and thus vague on how to answer, which explains lack of answers.  Have you tried Demon Tweaks?

@TommyGT4 lease companies are the very worst for imposing anti-modification rules on their customers. Other than getting it serviced by a VAG specialist thereby, keeping it away from dealerships for the length of the lease I can't See how you'd get away with lowering it

If you are looking to do the job well with a good budget I would look no further than the higher end KW coilovers like the V3s. If you have DCC specc'd then they also do a DCC version that is almost plug and play. They are all TUV approved for each model of Octavia, not a problem in the UK but means they should be compatible. If you cannot do it yourself then any competent indie should be able to do it they are not difficult.

As far as wheels go, if you want to stay OEM there are options from the Superb that fit well and from the VAG group in general all the way up to Bently.

Have a browse through the forum, even the build threads and see what people have used. Good use of willtheyfit will see the options.

As others have said though If you are leasing, seems a lot of work for a couple of years just to put it all back

Brilliant thanks for the replies guys. Yes it’s a lease, it’ll be my daily for work, kids trips to lakes, dump runs etc as I’ve got the GT4 as my weekend dream car (still pinching myself about that one)

The full spec is very basic as I got a brilliant deal on the lease so I didn’t tick any options at all but here it is.

Octavia estate 2.0L TSI vRS 5dr, Petrol,  Metero grey, black design pack, 18” Gemini anthracite wheels, black cloth with red stitching.

I don’t want to lower it much and maybe just adding 19 OEM wheels will achieve the results I’m after. It is a short term lease I understand that but if I like it I’ll extend the lease or even buy it at the end of the 2 year term. I tend to look after my cars so I won’t be treating it badly at all as a lease car and just want to make it look a little more purposeful with the removal of the arch gap.

Thanks again for the suggestions, I really do appreciate it. Going to have a look at what VAG 19”s I could get and then maybe use the 18”s as winters.

Check the terms of your lease but I'm almost certain you won't be able to modify it at all. Some things can be returned to standard at the end, but not always easy if you're involved in an accident

If it was me, I'd leave it as is, but just my two pence worth :)

Awesome GTI are in Manchester area, DPM Performance more North East, but both are VAG tuning specialists.

If it was me, I'd do the following:

• 19 x 8 ET35 rims (BBS?) in gloss black to match the mirrors, grille etc of the black pack; this width and offset should remove any need for spacers. 20" would look great, but where I live I'm constantly pothole-paranoid even on 19"s. (I've replaced three tyres just due to potholes so far, in 25k miles)

• H&R springs, probably -30mm. Not sure I'd bother with coilovers tbh, but knock yourself out

• H&R uprated front and rear anti roll bars.

• if not optioned, maybe tint the rear windows?

All easily reversible - do these and it'll look and handle tonnes better ;)

And make sure you post pictures.

Nice colour too btw :inlove:

I'll check my lease and my insurance company will have to be notified. As long as I return it to stock it should be ok. It's the 230 version, don't need extra ponies with a porka sat in the garage

Habe you got a Porsche? I didn’t notice haha

just get stock 19" Extremes in black to go with a black pack, H&R spacers and springs will do everything you need. no arch gap and no ride issues.

keep the 18s as winter tyres.

Cheers Johnny, that looks like the set up I’m after. Where would I get a set of the 19”’s from do you know?

Another option

You could go for a set of these? They are developed with VW’s motorsport side. We used to fit them at PDI on Golfs/Polos warranty was never an issue. I can’t imagine insurance would be BUT definitely check to make sure.
