Superb ideas

A remap is something I'd like to finish on my car, but paused the process. I've obtained the MPPS v16 kit, got the ECU dump from my car without issues, sent the map for a modification to an ECU specialist online, received modified map (checked with necessary software to see the differences), and now the ONLY thing is to put the new map in the car, but this is where I've stopped. Why? Because I've read that MPPS v16 (and MPPS in general) doesn't like my car's BOSCH MED9.1.1 ECU (not compatible) ... and if I proceed, I risk bricking the ECU ... now, naturally, any ECU modifications are a risk, but I wouldn't want to proceed if I'm positive I can damage it (having the car turn into a very large brick on the driveway). Any tech-wiz geniuses out here than can point me in the right direction? I woulnd't want to order a KESS or KTAG software, more expensive, and I'm not planning to run my own tuning workshop. The MPPS kit was a bargain (not genuine, of course), got it with something else and decided to get it, just for the fun of it and play around with it.

If going for a remap, check if your car has had the emissions fix applied, and if so, request a rollback to the factory map, before getting a remap.  Lots on here regarding remaps being applied to the EA189 fix.

Other ideas, interior LEDs are a good one and mainly free from canbus errors.  I'm also considering upgrading the brakes as they are notoriously poor on the 4x4....will update on that in due course.

@TasMan What you've written applies only to the OP's car, right? I shouldn't have emission issues on an FSI engine ... or? As for the brakes, after I bought the car, I immediately put on the TRW-ATE-Brembo packages (pads and discs), and should be set for a while without braking issues or interventions.

Don't worry - the emissions fix Tasman refers to is for the EA189 diesel engines only - those are the 1.6 and 2.0 TDI Superbs, not your petrol FSI.

 

I imagine the cost of petrol for that nice 3.6 beast is enough for you to worry about!  ;)

@TheRobinK - Figured that out, read about the EA189 in another topic (and usually, whenever there is talk about emissions, it is mostly diesel-engine related :D)

 

As for the petrol, not that much, I'm averaging 10,5-11 liters/100 km per one full tank, which in my mind is not that bad considering the BHP, 4x4 etc ... I woulnd't mind having a larger capacity tank though, I can manage some 470 kms before the need of refuelling ...

Yes, only the oil burners need worry about 'the fix' !!  3.6 petrol will be nice!  Cheers
