Superb with know touch screen not working in cold

Recommended Posts

Hello all, not been on since I sold my last Superb and have now left a holding deposit on a Jan 2016 (65) Superb 2.0 (150) SE Business saloon in silver with a low 12075 mile.

However as the title, prior to my test drive when trying to use the screen myself and the salesperson could not get any of the on screen buttons to work and it would not swipe, only the rotation wheel worked but again you could not select. We drove off and after about 5 minutes the screen eventually came into life. I know now from reports on here that it was the cold and damp causing the issue and due to the heating it works when the temperature increased.

Their cry from them was as it's under warranty, to book it in at Skoda and it will be fixed. I'm a bit long in the tooth now and told them for me to pay the balance it will have to be resolved as I had no intentions of initially spending time visiting Skoda dealerships in my own time to resolve that issue.

Sadly it also has a weird issue with the drivers sun visor. Adjacent to the mirror where the ticket holder is the material has been melted! At least it's hidden when the visor is up. Again they said it would be under warranty! Yea, someone has used the visor when closed to hold a device where the battery has got hot. They said that they will try and replace it? I personally hate it when car dealerships spin the sale with blatant untruths to get their final sale.

It's a beautiful car but with a couple of issues that hopefully they will resolve as soon as possible, otherwise I'll ask for my deposit back and keep on looking for another.

You do right not to pay in full until you are 100% happy!

I'm getting increasingly nervous with these reports about expensive tech that seems to not work in the cold (screens, afs etc). Don't they test these things properly ffs?

Mine comes in 3 weeks time. I'm paying for mine in full with my own hard earned money saved over many years and I expect it to be perfect, even several years down the line. Fingers crossed.

Just updated my other post on this topic but thought it may be useful to drop a copy in here as well:

Although its been a relatively mild winter in Switzerland (temperatures down to -10 occasionally where we are near Bern) I have not had a single occurrence of it being non-responsive since the update to software version 0848 Feb 2017.

If you still want to buy the car then insist on them getting this software update carried out.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I've been assured that the car has been to the Skoda dealership and had the software updated.

I'm finalising the deal and picking the car up later today and will let you know.

Thanks.

Another potential issue. Grrrrr.

The Maxi-Dot scroll wheel is not very responsive to the dash screen display. You scroll and the menus do not move, then if you scroll faster there is movement but not accurate.

Anyone else had this issue? Is it the scroll wheel cluster of again software?

Another phone call tomorrow to my local Skoda dealership.

Update: It has been confirmed that the scroll wheel is defective and a new steering wheel control board has to be ordered under warranty. Booked in for next Monday 19th Feb 18.

Steering wheel as above fitted and the right scroll wheel works great now.

Next issue that's just started. The left front sensor is intermittently activating when nearing traffic?

I think I'll consider an extended warranty at 3 year old if these are some of the potential electrical issues, three so far.

The stop start also at times can be a pain, where it stops far too early, sometimes even when still rolling up to traffic. OFF BUTTON is now well used and put on if I think I'll be waiting a while.
