Auto express have just finished running an Up! Beats TSI on their test fleet,absolutey loved the car but one final comment caught My eye-'Its no secret that the VW group has the Up!,as well as its Seat Mii and Skoda Citigo sister models under the microscope.While the trio share underpinnings, margins in this class are really tight, with not much profit in these cars.However,it would be a real shame if the Up! is killed off.'

Where are all these versions of these car built, I thought that when/where there are tight margins, places like India were chosen to build small cars, like Nissan do with the subMicra car and Ford do with Ka+?

 

Other places are also available for building small stuff cheaply.

Oh, that is not so good, need to move them to somewhere cheaper outside of the EU - maybe UK - joke!

 

So, India still sounds like a fix for finding a way to push costs down?  Unless South America offers a similar cost saving?

The UP! is built in Brazil. 

& with more powerful engines before the European ones had them, and with bigger fuel tanks.

The UP! for European markets is made in Bratislava Slovakia. 

 

Just like Citigo and Mii. I wouldn't by any of these sisters if they were made in India some day.

Only £160 difference between the 60 & 75 engines on the Mii whilst Skoda charge an extra £390??

If they put a proper DSG in them they can build them in the new plant in Rwanda if they want & then maybe low tariffs for importation to the UK no longer in the EU.

^^^ We know it does not if you do not make it.  But then the 2nd biggest car manufacturer in the world never bothered to make any effort.

But when they make the Up!MiiCitigo replacement an ickle bit bigger as they will,

where there is a will there is a way.

 

A Light Hybrid model & an EV as they need to produce seeing as others can and with a 2 pedals.

& smaller than a Polo / Arona.

 

An Audi TT 1.8T Engine can fit in the front of a Citigo when a Briskoda Member decides that is something they want to do.

A 1.0TSI DSG could as well, but then nobody is doing that, or maybe they are!

It would be expensive to do changes for the body and assembly line.

So to Homologate Rally cars VW had the Audi A1 fwd modified with quatro (haldex), there was a tunnel to allow RWD from the off (sell some to the public or collectors, special customers)

and a 1.8 & 2.0 engine so that the VW Polo could Rally & then also you have that with the Fabia which is FWD as sold to the public but had a 2.0 petrol engine & AWD for Rally participation and success, and then a 1.6 T AWD. 

 

Vorsprung Durch Technic.   Advance with technology through motorsport, spend billions, spin the Rally / Motorsport Heritage, punt out cars with 110ps to showrooms / public.

Spin some more, call the Up! a GTI use the 1.0 TSI engine you have, 6 speed gearbox you have, engine management to 115ps, and bigger front brakes, tweak the suspension, job done. loads of magazine space and street cred.  Much Cheapness factory changes really.

Lucky you guys in LHD markets, no chance of getting VW Group cars built in India, for us in RHD markets, maybe not so lucky?

Skoda was all ready to start a new set up in India with the JLR / Tata alliance with VW Group, 

 but then it looks like JLR / Tata maybe decided that VW Group are not the best of people to put trust in. (Paloma Faith in)
