Am I being stalked

Not sure you're being stalked but some dirty diesel has covered your reg number in soot by the looks of it.

What do you think you gain from obscuring half your plate? You can't do that when you're on the road so why do you think it makes any difference on an internet site?

Because if someone wishes to clone  your plate they have to be pretty fortunate/lucky to find the exact vehicle and colour combination whilst walking or driving around. Plus they tend not to clone vehicles near to them as it reduces the chance of the legal and cloned vehicle running into each other. .

However, ask Google to show images of a white 201X  Škoda Yeti, and they can sit back with their feet up and choose a suitable plate from locations  hundreds of miles away.

Try  Googling "show images of Škoda Yetis posted on Briskoda" as an example.

I believe it’s called freedom of choice for me and I didn’t want to offend the other owner who I don’t know, did I ever question people for sticking VRS badges on their Yeti.?

At least Sad555 has been consistent and semi-obscured both plates. The ones that that get me, and I would love to hear their explanation, are the ones who take the time to fully obscure their own reg. but leave the reg. of other cars in the picture on full display.

Aw Graham, just when I thought we were getting on. It was A Dear Diary Moment for me when you 'liked' one of my comments.

Just for info, for 12.5 years of my 22 in the RN I was Military Police (RNP/Regulator) I qualified as a SOCO/CSI and am an Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist Investigator (sadly grossly out of date of practice for both) as well as being the Forensic Subject Matter Expert (secretly I used Google when no one was looking) for my Unit for six years. I was also the Crime Liaison Officer for the same Unit, liaising with MoD Plod, and the various other law enforcement agencies that operate throughout the UK.

During one of these exchanges it was disclosed that using information from Google was how some gangs were cloning vehicles.

Obviously there are other means of attaining the same results but sometimes KISS is the best policy.

It would appear the force /organisation that disclosed that information regrettably forgot to run it past you first, Graham.

Now the toerags that bother look on Autotrader, Gumtree etc.

Pick a vehicle a long way away, check the DVLA status, MOT / VED,  then Askmid for insured and then get plates made up.

Go get a vehicle, steal hire, use the hooky plates.

Simply clever stuff, they are Social Media savvy.

Thankfully, I don't think a cloned Yeti has much street cred for a toe rag.

When I was working in motor claims investigation, it used to be flashy Astra type vehicles at the low end and BMWs at the other end. Strangely, few Mercs.

It seems that while seeking to hide their identity, cloners still required some 'image'.

Good security pal. Former joss from Glasgow, 25 years in The mob. Served in Kosovo, Iraq (without checking ribbons for other campaigns). Probably have heartof0ak as your password. Easy enough to clone you too.

I have also been a member of the BPA for a number of years.  B)

To get new plates made up you also need the V5 document, unless there is a bent garage they have access to.  :wondering:

Don't you believe it.

A guy we know received 6 parking tickets from Barnet Council in London.

He has never, ever driven in London. On the day and times his Renault Scenic was 'apparently'  ticketed, it was actually in the car park at his place of work.......in Devon.

Despite being on CCTV in that car park, despite the MD of the firm providing copies of electronic clocking in cards he had clocked in and out with, and a letter confirming his attendancs, despite his car having several features which the cloned car did not have, and despite telling them he had never in his life even been to London, never mind driven in it, they still wouldn't accept that evidence.

It took 4 months legal work to sort out.

ALWAYS cover your plates on websites. especially on Ebay and Gumtree where these lowlife seem to lurk. His car had been up for sale on Ebay.

The stress caused to him and his family was immense, and we eventually had to threaten to sue Barnet Council for harassment and very substantial costs of defence before they dropped it.

Think again.

You can get plates online. No V5 needed.

You can buy stick on numbers and plates. These vermin know all the dodges.

It's a complete farce.

Surprisingly those that steal and ring cars know dodgy people in the motor trade.

You might think those that served for Queen and country might think of that.
